Cadwell Community will host a Community Blood Drive with ImpactLife, the provider of blood components for local hospitals. The blood drive will be on Tuesday, June 17th from 3:15 pm to 6:45 pm on Tuesday, June 17 at M & E Woodcrafts at 1533 CR 1900N, inside Donor Bus.

“Bingocize”, an evidence-based program that combines bingo with exercise, has announced its upcoming fall prevention exercise classes for people 60+, running through July 2nd. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the Mid-Illinois Senior Services in Moultrie County.
The program aims to enhance physical activity, improve balance, and reduce the risk of falls in a fun and engaging environment. Participants will enjoy a unique blend of exercise and social interaction, all the while playing Bingo.

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Bass Fishing Finals will be held at Lake Shelbyville from Friday, June 6th, through Saturday, June 7th, at the Dam West boat ramp. To accommodate tournament activities, the Dam West recreation area will be open only to the participating teams, spectators, and workers beginning at 9:00 p.m., Thursday, June 5th, through 9:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7th.

On Monday, June 7th, the Bethany Fire and Ambulance volunteers will be serving a “Drive-Thru Dinner” from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Menu includes pulled pork sandwiches smoked on hickory and applewood, baked beans, corn bread and chips. No tickets are needed for this $10.00 meal, but there are only 300 of them. Additionally, there will be free delivery for village residents. This dinner is to support the local fire and ambulance department, in recognition of their contribution to the community. For more information, call (217) 665-3726.

When the weather warms up, ticks become more active. These tiny pests may be small, but the diseases they carry are significant. Tick awareness is essential for protecting yourself, your family, and your pets from potentially dangerous tick-borne illnesses.
Why Tick Awareness Matters: Ticks can transmit diseases to humans through their bite. Diseases routinely found in Illinois tick populations include Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Each of these illnesses begins with mild flu-like symptoms but can lead to long-term complications if not treated promptly. To protect yourself from ticks, it’s imperative to understand when and where ticks are most active. The following information will help you reduce your risk and enjoy the outdoors.

The Sullivan City Electrical Department is getting ready for a busy summer with potential interruptions from Ameren that will require the city to generate its own power.
“In the past, we’ve had two hours’ notice before we need to go online,” Jon Edwards told the council. “Now they’re saying 30 minutes.”

Barbara J. Johnson, 93, of Bethany, passed away 12:02 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Arthur Home in Arthur.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the services Wednesday, at the funeral home in Sullivan. Burial will take place in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mt. Zion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moultrie County Food Bank or to the Sullivan High School Football Program.

Ramona L. Lesley-Hertlein, 96, of Sullivan, passed away at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday May 27, 2025 in the Sullivan Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Celebration of Life services were held Monday June 2, 2025 in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Pastor Rob Roy officiating. Burial took place in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany. Memorials are suggested to the Bethany United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.
Ramona was born December 2, 1928 in Shawneetown, the daughter of Gordon and Beulah Hatcher Ozee. She had worked at the Bethany Grocery Store, Peters Market in Decatur, Svendsen Florist in Decatur and the Sullivan Senior Center. Ramona married Robert ‘Bob’ Lesley on September 13, 1947 and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1977. She then married Eugene ‘Gene’ Hertlein on May 10, 2011 in Bethany and he preceded her in death on April 23, 2014.
Surviving are her daughters Helen (George) Levi of Effingham, Patti (Rieck) Kendall of Sullivan and Brenda Kirk of Sullivan; sister Doris Murphy of Shelbyville, brothers Roger Ozee of Shelbyville and Larry (Judi) Ozee of Arcola; grandchildren Lori (John) Thomas, Jennifer Levi, Alison Yoder, Kari (Troy) Rogers, Katy (Bryan) Fogerson, Adam, (Leann) Lesley, Michael (Marci) Kirk, Alyssa Kirk and Erin (Tim) Fricke; twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, five brothers and a sister.

Lefty Devon Still had a game to remember Tuesday night in Champaign, pitching all seven innings to tally 14 punch-outs and earning his 11th victory on the season. Still also drove home the game-winning run in, walk-off fashion, sending Okaw Valley to the team’s first final four state qualifier.
Following the county board’s amendment of the zoning ordinance to allow for special use permits for zoos, one such application was filed. Aikman Wildlife, LLC. filed their application on May 15, requesting a special use permit for a zoo for a tract of property located one mile west of The Great Pumpkin Patch, southwest of Arthur.
At their monthly meeting in May, the Sullivan school board accepted the resignation of middle and high school show choir director Connie Mulligan, who also served as the elementary school teacher. Mulligan had been with the district for five years.
As Amazon’s great text stats had calculated, the average length of a book is around 64,000 words. But for Lovington seventh grader Joshua Zander, that’s hardly a big deal. And he would know.
