Jackson Family of Dealerships once again made a monetary and equipment donation recently to the Sullivan Youth Baseball League, including bags, batting tees, and shirts.
UPS had announced 86 elite drivers from Illinois were among 1,445 newly inducted worldwide into the Circle of Honor, an honorary organization for UPS drivers who have achieved 25 or more years of accident-free driving. UPS driver David Haycraft of Dalton City was one of the 86 recognized.

Local program provides free services for the community

You’ve likely seen the billboards and flyers about Celebrate Recovery, but may not be aware of the vast array of services offered, free of charge, to the Sullivan and surrounding communities.
Director Rebecca Wilhelm said that since the Sullivan chapter’s opening pre-pandemic, and revamp/re-opening in the summer of 2021, Celebrate Recovery offers more services than before to the Sullivan and surrounding communities. “Celebrate Recovery is a place for healing, to be cared for, to learn, grow and become strong again.” She also shared, “Regardless of your faith status or denominational beliefs, it’s a place for community and people to find freedom from their issues and struggles that are controlling their lives. It’s a place to find help and hope.”

On March 4th, the Lovington Working Women’s Collective (LWWC) held its quarterly Open House in Lovington, with guest speaker Nathalie Beck, CEO of the Heart of Illinois Foundation, who spoke about how her foundation provides resources to improve the quality of life for residents of the communities served. Natalie, “believes in philanthropy’s unique ability to deliver “innovation capital” while leveraging partnerships.” The soup and freshly baked sourdough bread were provided by Hanna Heady with “Hanna’s Sourdough & Signs” and enjoyed by all in attendance.

Arthur Public Library hosts free nutrition session

On April 5th at 1:00 p.m. at the Arthur Public Library, Becca Dickens from Regenerative Life Farms will speaks about the benefits of local food infrastructure. Becca is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner who cultivates communities and heals through sustainable food, holistic healing and wellness practices.

Homemade Easter eggs to order

The United Women in Faith are now taking orders for their homemade chocolate Easter eggs. Decorated peanut butter and vanilla eggs will be available for purchase for family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
Order online at https://www.sullivanfirstumc.com/ or pick up an order form in the entryway of the First United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall (located across from the Sullivan Fire Department). All orders are due by March 30th.
For over 20 years, all profits have been used to support our many missions, including Mary’s Weekend Bags, AMBUCS, DOVE, and Teen Impact.

Lynnette Hermann
Lynnette Hermann, 80, of Sullivan, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2025 in her home surrounded by family.
Visitation will be Monday, March 17, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Reed Funeral Home Sullivan, IL. followed by a Celebration of Life from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Sullivan VFW (1132 Illinois Rt. 32 South). Casual attire is requested. Graveside services will be Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL.
Lynnette was born on October 31, 1944 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Roy McLaughlin and Helen ‘Jerry’ Lewis. Lynnette married Ronald H. Hermann on October 2, 1965 in Decatur, Illinois. She was an LPN, a wholesale manager for Emel’s Bait Shop in rural Sullivan and was also a licensed realtor/broker and owner of Hermann Construction Company. She was a member of the National Association of Realtors, the Illinois Realtors Association, the Central Illinois Board of Realtors and the Decatur Landlord Association.
Lynn loved to travel and socialize, she loved drives in her Corvette around the lake, watching home improvement and cooking shows, she enjoyed supporting her grandchildren during their extracurricular activities, and enjoyed taking drives around her property in her golf cart.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald; sons Douglas Hermann (Missy Mines) of Decatur, IL and Michael Hermann (Kimberly) of Warrensburg, IL ; daughter in law Mindy Hermann of Lusby, Maryland; grandchildren Christoper Hermann, Alexus Mines, Caleb Hermann, Orion Brown, Delaney Hermann, Haley Hermann, and several nieces and nephews, as well as her favorite companion Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Robert Hermann, grandson Austin Hermann, sister Victoria Devereaux and brothers Jack Lewis and Jeff Lewis.

One thing nags me about Isaac Hill’s expedition into central Illinois for Thomas Jefferson. Why didn’t their story make it into the history books?
I think I know. Isaac Hill did not have a German grandmother.
I had a German grandmother. She died when I was six. I know two things about her. She thought her grandchildren were wonderful, and her favorite saying was “A place for everything and everything in its place.” (That remains my elusive goal.)
If Isaac Hill had a German grandmother, she would have told the whole world about her amazing grandson. That’s what grandmothers do. Lacking a grandmother, Isaac Hill should have tooted his own horn and/or filed his map and report of his expedition properly for posterity.
