Floyd Buckalew
Floyd E. Buckalew, of Sullivan, passed away on January 30, 2025, in the Arthur Home, at the age of 98. He rejoined many of his family, friends and fellow servicemen of the United States Army 40th Infantry Division and the 11th Airborne Division. One more member of the “greatest Generation” has heard the call.

The Sullivan Chamber & Economic Development awarded Small Business of the Year to the Briarwood at the annual dinner. Business of the Year was awarded to Petersen Health Care. Citizen of the Year was awarded to Larry Stenger and the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Ron White.
One Knights’ fan traveled 1200 miles to see the Little Okaw Valley Conference championship game against the Hutsonville-Palestine Tigers in Arcola. ALAH made sure that fan, Danny Powell, left with a smile, defeating the Tigers 69-51.

The Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance will hold a fundraising banquet at the Sullivan VFW located at 1132 IL 32, Sullivan, IL 61951 on February 22, 2025, to raise funds for continuing fish habitat improvements in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Illinois Natural History Survey and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources at Lake Shelbyville. The Alliance has garnered national recognition for its innovative improvements to the lake. All proceeds from the banquet will go towards Lake Shelbyville fish habitat improvements.

Sullivan residents will have a chance to dispose of unneeded electronics during a recycling event held April 5 at Wyman Park.
The city council approved the event last Monday night with Mayor Mike Mossman saying it was always a popular service for area residents.

“Tiaras & Ties”

Sullivan Dance Studio is hosting “Tiaras & Ties” on Saturday, February 15th, from 5:45-7:30 p.m. at Building 1225. This event is recommended for princesses aged 3 & up accompanied by their special guy. Dancing, a photographer, crafts, and refreshments are part of the fun.
A VIP Experience is available, including a catered dinner, a princess gift, a VIP dessert, early entry seating, and more. VIP registration closes on February 5th. VIP experience doors open at 4:45 p.m., and general admission doors open at 5:45 p.m.

Project HELP

The Okaw Valley School District and the Project HELP Preschool program will be offering free developmental screenings to provide parents an opportunity to discover how their child is developing in the areas of speech, language, concepts and motor skills. Vision and hearing screenings will also be provided free of charge.
For an appointment for the March 13 and 14 screenings call Tracy Ryherd at 217-665-3541. The screenings will take place at First Christian Church, 312 W. South Water in Bethany.
