Sullivan Lions Club Seeks New Members

Since 1941, Sullivan Lions Club, an affiliate of Lions International, has been committed to helping residents with vision and hearing services, hunger, and youth needs. Each year in November they hold the Turkey Party fundraiser, which is a family friendly event for all ages to attend with turkeys and hams as the prizes. Numerous door prizes are given out at the end of the event. Every penny raised at this fundraiser goes to local charitable causes, directly benefiting individuals, neighbors, and organizations in our community. No money is ever used for administrative expenses. Throughout the years funds have specifically been contributed to Boy Scouts (in various forms), Lions Pavilion at Wyman Lake, Sullivan FFA, Weekend Backpack Food Program, FCCLA Breakfast with Santa, Cotton Wood Pavilion (in downtown Sullivan), playground equipment at Wyman Park and much more. Scholarships are also given annually to at least one Sullivan High School senior.  If you are looking for a way to get involved and make an impact in your community, the club is seeking new members. Nathan Shirley Receives Friends of Master Gardener Award

The Master Gardeners in Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Moultrie, and Shelby recently announced Nathan Shirley as the recipient of the esteemed Friends of Master Gardener Award. This recognition honors Nathan’s exceptional dedication and contribution to our local Master Gardener program. Nathan’s significant volunteer efforts, particularly in helping construct the new greenhouse, have made a profound impact on our community. His commitment exemplifies the spirit of community support and collaboration that is fundamental to our gardening initiatives. “His hard work and passion have been instrumental in the success of our program. We extend our sincere appreciation to Nathan for his outstanding contributions,” said Jenny Lee, Master, Gardener Program Coordinator. The Friends of Master Gardener Award celebrates individuals like Nathan Shirley, whose dedication enhances the vibrancy and sustainability of our local green spaces. We commend Nathan for his commitment to making our community a greener and more connected place.

Windsor February Students of the Month

Windsor Jr./Sr. High School recently announced Peter Mast and Jay Rodriguez as their February Students of the Month.

Peter Mast is the son of Mose and Hana Mast. He is currently an 8th grade student and is involved in FFA. His favorite class in Ms. McClard’s 8th grade Reading class.

Jay Rodriguez is the daughter of Adrian and Ali Rodriguez. Jay is currently a senior and is involved in Dance, Spanish Club, Art Club, and Yearbook. After graduation she plans to attend Eastern Illinois University to become a school counselor and minor in Graphic Design.

Area FCCLA Chapters Meet for Conference

As part of National FCCLA Week, Sullivan FCCLA attended the IL FCCLA Section 7 Winter Rally Conference in Charleston on Wednesday, February 14. Eight students from Sullivan High School attended along with advisers, Kali Taylor, Jenifer Voegel. FCCLA members from nine area schools made up the approximately 100 participants at the event. Members in attendance from Sullivan High School were: Kya Allen, Linnea Graham, Abagail Dean, Damien Lee, Hayden Nohren, Claire Welch, Sarina Voegel, Addison Brush

Easter Egg Hunt

Sullivan First United Methodist Church will hold and Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, March 29 at Tabor Park in Sullivan. The hunt is for ages through 12 years old and will start at 4:30. The Easter Bunny will be available for photos.

Sullivan Dance Studio’s Competition Team Attends 2024 Competitions

Sullivan Dance Studio’s Competition Team has attended two competitions so far this year. Specialty routines and the one Teen level dance attended “Believe Dance Competition” at Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville, IL February 2-4. All thirty team members attended the Energy Dance Competition the weekend of February 16-18 at Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, Missouri.   Read More
