Charles B. Shuman Scholarship Apps.

The Moultrie County Farm Bureau has announced that applications are available for the Charles B. Shuman Memorial Scholarship. The $500 scholarship will be awarded to a resident of Moultrie County who is a graduating high school senior or currently enrolled in a University or Community College. The successful applicant should be of good moral character and exhibit potential for successful completion of a course of study in agriculture or related fields. In addition to academic performance, extra curricular and community involvement will also be considered in the selection process. Read More

LLC to Host Laker Visit Day

Lake Land College will host Laker Visit Day on Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Luther Student Center. The event is designed for prospective students to learn about Lake Land College and how the Laker Advantage can guide them on the path to success.

Attendees will tour campus with a student ambassador, who will share information from a student perspective. Participants will also meet with faculty to learn more about specific programs.

Representatives from many services, including Counseling Services, Career Services, Student Accommodations, Student Wellness, TRIO Student Support Services and more will be available to provide information and answer attendees’ questions.

Attendees are also welcome to bring their parents or guardians to the event. A parent/guardian session will be offered to provide information relevant to parents or guardians of future Lakers.

“This event is perfect for anyone interested in attending Lake Land College, even if you only plan to take a few classes,” Pam Hartke, associate dean of enrollment, said. “Potential students can really get a great feel for the college as a whole and learn about the excellent resources we have available.”

Peanuts Shine in This Stir-Fry Dish

Peanuts work well in sweet desserts and are commonly found in the form of peanut butter swirled with jelly atop bread for lunchtime sandwiches. However, peanuts can be an ingredient in savory dishes as well. In fact, peanuts often are included in the popular Thai dish “Pad Thai,” which is Thailand’s variation on a traditional Chinese stir-fry. It’s salty, sweet and often spicy. Windsor Jr/Sr High January Students of the Month

Windsor Jr./Sr. High School has announced their January Students of the Month Brody Hendrickson and Monica Baker.

Brody Hendrickson is the son of Nick and Missy Hendrickson. Brody is currently a senior and is involved in Basketball, Scholastic Bowl, Student Council President, and Senior Class President. After graduation Brody plans to attend Eastern Illinois University majoring in Exercise Science – Pre-Physical Therapy.

Monica Baker is the daughter of Alan and Linda Baker, and has three sisters. She is currently an 8th grade student and enjoys listening and playing music. She hopes to one day become a cosmetologist or a daycare provider.

Gymnastics Meet
Local gymnast, Sylvia Dawkins, competed on Saturday, February 3 at the Heart of Illinois Gymnastics meet held in Decatur. She earned medals in floor exercise and vault. The upcoming state meet will be held in Bourbonnais in March where she will compete. Sylvia trains at the Mattoon Academy of Gymnastics.

Gabby Grooms competed as a level 5 gymnast on Saturday, February 3 in the Heart of Illinois gymnastics meet. She brought home first place medals in floor, vault, beam, and bars and placed first all-around for level 5. Gabby is 12 years old and has been competing competitively for Mattoon Gymnastics Academy for 4 years

Sullivan 7th Grade Boys Basketball Conference Regional Champions 2024

Sullivan 7th Grade Boys Basketball Conference Regional Champions
The Sullivan 7th grade boys basketball team won the Junior High Conference tournament over Tuscola and a week later won a conference championship over Tuscola, which was the last regular season game of the year. A week later they beat Tuscola for a third time in three weeks in the Conference Regional Championship. On Monday, January 29 they faced off against Teutopolis. They fell to them 28-20. They ended up with a season record of 22-4 overall.

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
