Fields of Faith

Fields of Faith will be held on Sunday, October 22 at 5:30 pm at Sullivan High School at Victory Field. The event is for seventh through 12th graders. There will be food, games and worship. Fields of Faith is a peer to peer movement where thousands of students from across the nation and world gather on their school’s athletic field to share faith stories and challenge each other to apply the Bible as their “game plan for life.”

Bethany Movie Night

There will be a Bethany Community Movie Night on Friday, October 20 at 7 pm outside at the Bethany Free Methodist Church, 312 W. Main in the parking lot. There will be free popcorn, hot chocolate and snacks. They will be watching a classic. The event is sponsored by Diggity Dawgs and BFMC.

VFW Essay Contests Deadline Approaching

The local VFW Post 6410 in Sullivan is announcing that the entry deadline for the Patriots Pen Essay Contest and Voice of Democracy Contest is at the end of this month. Students in sixth through eighth grade can participate in the Patriots Pen essay contest and students in 9th through 12th can participate in the Voice of Democracy contest. The top three winners will move on to the district level with a chance to win and move on to the state judging. The state prizes for 17 district winners range from $300-$2500 and an all-expense weekend trip to Springfield for students and family. National awards for State Winners range from

$1000 to $35,000 and a very memorable trip to Washington DC.

Deadline to submit is October 31st.

Sullivan Homecoming Celebrated 2023

Sullivan Homecoming Celebrated

Sullivan celebrated their Homecoming last week with activities including dress up days, a dance, football game and a parade. The parade route was lined with observers including children waiting to rush out and grab candy thrown by people on the floats, golf carts and cars that proceeded down the route. More information on the Homecoming game can be found in this week’s issue.

Windsor Homecoming Parade

Windsor High School held their Homecoming Parade on Wednesday, September 27 at 6 pm. This year’s Homecoming theme was Candyland. The parade featured Homecoming Queen and King Candidates, Homecoming attendants, sports teams, district staff and teachers. The Homecoming Dance was held on Saturday, September 30 and Ainslie Eident was crowned Homecoming Queen and Brody Hendrickson was crowned Homecoming King.

National Recovery Month

Recovery Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC) wants to take this opportunity to share what they have been doing this past September to honor National Recovery Month. They kicked off National Recovery Month with the event “Paint the Town Purple”. They painted the town purple by displaying purple ribbons around Moultrie and Shelby Counties to symbolize that recovery is possible. Read More

HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Receives Approval for $90-million Modernization

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board (HFSRB) voted unanimously to approve HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital’s Certificate of Need (CON) application for a major infrastructure renovation to update clinical spaces, improve patient room amenities and enhance the patient experience. High School Students Meet for Leadership Training

The Illinois Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently provided approximately 200 high school students and their Family & Consumer Sciences teachers a training on how to be positive, effective leaders in their homes, schools, and communities. The training which is called the Ignite Conference was held on Sunday, October 1, and Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Northfield Inn/ Conference Center, Springfield, IL. The main topics that were emphasized were leadership skills, professionalism, and community service.

Two keynote presentations were provided by Mr. Blake Bradley of Elverado, IL. and Mr. Kaleb Smith from Edwardsville, IL. The students participated in a variety of workshop sessions including “Professional Dress” and “Preparing for the Real World”. The teachers in attendance were given the opportunity to participate in professional development sessions. One of the sessions which focused on “Temperament in the Classroom” was led by Brittney Bauer of West Chicago High School. The teachers and students focused on and set goals for their Program of Work, FCCLA Week Activities, and their Community Service projects for the school year. Each FCCLA chapter will conduct projects in their home communities and high schools during the current school year using the information that they gathered at the training. Read More

Sullivan Junior High Cross Country Team Advancing to State

Shelbyville/Moulton Middle School hosted the IESA 2A Cross Country Section at Forest Park on Saturday, October 7. Sullivan Middle School’s girl cross country came in second place and the boys team tied for third.

In the Girls 3200 meter run, Aaliyah Osborn led the girls with a fifth place finish in a time of 13:30.63, Avery Renfro in seventh with a time of 13:35.43, Addy Hendry came in 20th place, Sylvia Dawkins in 25th, Emmersyn Jianonni in 26th place, Aubrey Fultz in 27th place and Meila Wilson in 37th place. 

In the Boys 3200 meter run Easton Wickline placed fourth with a time of 12:12.95, David Easton placed seventh with a time of 12:19.96, Bryson Hill in fourteenth with 12:30.34. Griffin Woods placed 32nd, Gavin Finn in 38th place and Gideon Walk in 39th place.

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
