The Millikin University Center for Entrepreneurship and Women in Business student organization will host the first Millikin Makers Market on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Oberhelman Center for Leadership Performance located on the 1st floor of the University Commons on Millikin’s campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The event will feature makers, crafters and artists from the Millikin and Macon County (Ill.) community offering a wide range of goods and services. Items include clothing, personalized gifts, soaps, candles, tumblers, jewelry, artwork, greeting cards, baked goods and so much more. Epilepsy Support Group

The Illinois Epilepsy Support and Resources will present an epilepsy support group on Thursday, November 4 at 6 p.m. at the Moultrie County Beacon, Inc, 401 West Water Street in Sullivan. Masks are required. Social distancing will be practiced. If you are not feeling well, please stay home. Snacks will be served. Improvement Planned for Railroad Crossing in Sullivan

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a railroad crossing improvement project in Sullivan that will require the closure of Hamilton Street (Illinois 32) from Monday, Nov. 1, through Wednesday Nov. 3.
The closure is necessary to upgrade and make repairs to the surface crossing. When Hamilton Street is closed, a detour will be posted using Eden and South Market streets, and traffic will not be permitted to travel between Hale Street and Roane Street. Read More
Make Fire Safety the Top Priority when Decorating

The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM) encourages everyone to keep fire safety tips in mind when putting up Halloween and Fall decorations. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) decorations were the first thing to ignite in roughly 800 reported home fires each year. More than two of every five of these fires occurred because the decorations were too close to a heat source, such as a candle or hot equipment. Read More

Scott State Bank recently announced that Garrett Brachbill has recently joined the organization as a commercial lender at their Sullivan location. Garrett graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. He has several years of banking experience and is also very knowledgeable in appraisals and insurance. Garrett is an avid sportsman, enjoys golfing, hunting, and is a fan of all the Chicago sports teams. SBL Donates to Sullivan Athletic Booster Club
Sarah Bush Lincoln Sullivan Clinic recently donated $620 to the Sullivan Athletic Booster Club from sports physicals performed over the summer. The physicals were provided at reduced costs to numerous athletes by Advanced Practice Provider Shawna Harris, APRN, and the medical staff at the SBL Sullivan Clinic. The physicals were $20 each, and all of the proceeds were donated back to the school. Harris is pictured presenting the donation to Sullivan High School Athletic Director Ryan Aikman.

Pritzker Urges Child Vaccination
Federal approval of vaccines for children 5-11 could come next week

An amendment to the Health Care Right of Conscience Act that allows an employer to fire a worker for noncompliance with COVID-19 vaccine or test requirements surfaced Monday ahead of the final three scheduled days of legislative action this year.
That bill language was introduced in the General Assembly Monday as Gov. JB Pritzker announced a new partial vaccine agreement with the state’s largest public employee union and held a news conference to encourage vaccination in children aged 5-11, provided federal regulators recommend the vaccine in that age group next week.
House Amendment 2 to Senate Bill 1169, carried by Rep. Robyn Gabel, D-Evanston, creates a section of the Health Care Right of Conscience Act pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. Read More
