Sullivan VFW Post 6410 to Host Speaker

News Progress Posted on October 13, 2021 by webmasterOctober 13, 2021

•October 20, 2021•

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6410 at Sullivan continues to support fellow veterans and their families, as they have for the past seventy five years. Veteran members and the auxiliary work to respect the sacrifices and commitment of every soldier who has served in the military. This Veterans Day Thursday, November 11, will begin with the placement of the wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier honoring present serving soldiers, veteran soldiers and those who gave their life. It is the hope of Sullivans’ Post #6410 that each of us take a moment to reflect and recognize the daily benefits in our life and offer up gratitude to those who did the job.
On Veterans Day Sergeant Major Richard Carroll will be speaking briefly to the audience gathered for the 7:00 pm Thursday evening drawing. Sgt. Major Carroll has served for nearly thirty years in the military. His decorations and medals are many including Desert Shield/Desert Storm 2004. The unusual career profile of Sgt. Major Carroll includes an interesting twist of leaving the service in the mid nineties, but then reenlisting in October 2001, just weeks after the 9/11 attack. Twenty years later Sgt. Major Carroll is one of Illinois Army National Guards Senior Enlisted Leaders. He brings with him a great deal to be respected and we hope to have him leave with our appreciation of his gift to VFW Post #6410 and the Sullivan community.
This event invites the public and veterans to join for the evening. All veterans, members and nonmembers are offered a free meal on Veterans Day. Every citizen is encouraged to reach out and offer respect to every soldier they come in contact with on Veterans Day and every day.
