The Sullivan FCCLA will be having Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 10 from 8 to 10 am in the SHS commons. Cost is $5 per person. BASO will present Santa’s Visit to Bethany on Sunday, December 4 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at Okaw Valley Elementary gymnasium. There will be games, treats, fun and Santa will be listening to Christmas wishes. They are accepting donations to the Bethany Food Pantry. Kids who donate items get a ticket to be entered into a prize drawing.

The United Methodist Women’s Christmas Bake Sale and Cookie Extravaganza will be held on Friday, December 9 from 8 am to 4:30 pm at the Sullivan First United Methodist Church, across from the firehouse. There will be homemade cookies, breads, pastries, candies, pies, jellies and more. All proceeds support UMW missions.

A retirement celebration for Pastor Kevin D. Ray will be held on Sunday, December 11 at 10 am at the First Christian Church, 202 S. Broadway in Shelbyville. The featured speaker will be Pastor Wayne Kent and an appreciation tea will follow the worship service at 11:30 am in the church fellowship hall.

There will be a Senior Citizen Community Holiday Dinner on Monday, December 12 at 5 pm at the American Legion Hall in Findlay. If you are unable to attend and would still enjoy a dinner call Vickie Wooters at 217-972-8664 or Chris Coventry at 217-273-8529 and a dinner will be delivered to you. This dinner is sponsored by Findlay churches, Findlay Woman’s Club, Ladies Legion Auxiliary, Okaw Valley Middle School and American Legion.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Hammond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lovington Ambulance Service. McMullin-Young Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
Cob was born August 21, 1928, in Linter; the son of Corwin Lee Hill, Sr. and Virginia (Traxler) Hill. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Cob married Mary Lou Price on January 15, 1954, in Lovington; she preceded him in death on February 10, 2010. He enjoyed buying and selling bicycles and used cars. Cob loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his son, Greg (Becky) Hill of Lovington; grandson, Justin (Stacy) Hill of Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Blayne and Emery; niece, Kim Murphy of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 brother and 1 sister.

Reading to the Comfort Dog
Harley Johnson reads to Theo, a comfort dog from Paw Print Ministries. Theo and his owner Melissa McKee talked about all of the places that Paw Print Ministries takes their dogs into to provide comfort and support for the ill, grieving, aged and victims of accidents or trauma. Each dog has it’s own Facebook page and can be followed to see where they go.

Turkeys Donated to Moultrie County Food Pantry
Sullivan IGA meat department delivered 50 turkey breasts and 25 turkeys to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Monday, November 21. Those who delivered the donation were (in no order): Mason Harner, Meat manager Seth Cobb, Blake Eller, Cameron Eccles, Timothy VanDeursen and Judy Sumner.

For the 30th year, the Coles County Barbershop Chorus (CCC) will present two concerts on Sunday, December 4th. The first performance will start at 3 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2206 4th Street in Charleston and the second concert starts at 7 pm at the United Christian Church, 200 E Lafayette in Mattoon. The 30 man chorus with three quartets and two ensembles will present the free one hour program with secular songs like Jingle Bells and spiritual songs such as Go Tell It On the Mountain, Carol of the Bells, Drummer Boy and O Holy Night. Several area men will join the chorus in singing a medley of Christmas favorites. Read More
