Play is an important part of childhood that helps children learn and grow. Through play, children learn about the world while practicing the skills that allow them to explore it. When we facilitate children’s play, we provide ideal learning environments that are rich with context and meaning. These joyful experiences motivate learning because play is fun, and fun is fuel for learning! Come play with us at C.E.F.S. Head Start 0-5 Program. We enroll all year round, if interested in completing an application, please call/text 217-663-7822 or complete an online pre-application at www.cefseoc.org/headstart

A new business has opened in Lovington for video gambling called the Panther Pride Parlor. The business has six machines that contain 10-15 games each. The machines were provided to the business by J&J Gaming.
The business provides free soda and water to those gambling, however there is a charge for alcoholic beverages. According to owner John Renfro, both bars in town also have video gambling but some people don’t like the bar atmosphere. “The people that come in here want to relax and gamble,” he said.
The Panther Pride Parlor is located at 117 W. State Street in Lovington. Their hours are Monday-Saturday 9am to 9 pm.

25 Years Ago This Week
The campus of Sullivan High School would remain open over the lunch hour. The Sullivan school board approved the amended recommendations of a committee appointed to study the feasibility of a closed high school campus--a practice that had been debated by the board over several months as a means of asserting more school control over students’ noontime behavior.
The Sullivan City Council adopted a street improvement ordinance. Adopted annually, that year’s non-referendum ordinance called for the borrowing of $50,000 to improve city streets and alleys and levied a tax for the payment of the principle and interest. The Sullivan City Council approved the acceptance of two right of ways during their meeting on Monday. The approval of the two right of ways means that the Bruder Tank TARP Project that was approved during the September 13 meeting can proceed. Voting yes to the acceptance of right of ways was Mayor Richard Glazebrook, Commissioner Doug Booker and Commissioner Mike Fowler. Commissioner Abbey Sherwood voted no on both and Commissioner Chuck Woodworth was absent.
The project will be paid for using a state legislative grant of $225,000 and the remaining $12,045.82 will be allocated from TIF funds.
The work will be done by IDOT.

The grant, if received, would be used to replace the water main on Main Street. For water plant, the IEPA permit should be granted in the next 30 days. Read More
