Okaw Valley volleyball placed third at the LSA Invite.

Boys’ golf

The Okaw Valley boys’ golf team won the Shelby County Invite with a team score of 401 Friday, Sept. 10.
Central A&M placed second with 410 points, and the host Rams finished third with 441 points. WWS placed fourth with 455 points.
Miles Harlin tied for first and finished second overall after the playoff. He shot an 85.
Tyson Montgomery finished third overall with a 90, and Seth Webner carded a 111.
Dylan Miller finished with a score of 115, and Chase Creviston followed at 119.
Aiden Williams rounded out the score with 120.
Sept. 7, the boys’ golf team took second with a team score of 205 in a triangular between winner St. Anthony and Shelbyville. Read More

Blood Drive in Honor Of River Helmuth

There will be a blood drive in honor of River Helmuth on Saturday, September 18 from 8 am to 2 pm at the Sullivan American Legion. There is currently a critical need for all blood types. Covid and recent weather tragedies have depleted the overall supply. Strict COVID procedures will be in place. Walk ins are welcome, but an appointment will help ensure adequate staffing and decrease your wait time. Be a HERO donate the lifesaving gift of blood. Each unit collected can help up to 3 people in need. Call 217-859-2101 for an appointment.

The court was recognized at Tuesday night’s home volleyball game between the JV and Varsity matches in addition to coronation on Saturday, 9/18 at 6:45 PM.

John P. ‘Jack’ Crane, 80, of Sullivan, passed away at 11:58 p.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021, in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2021, in Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Grant Wade officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 10 a.m. until service time. The Sullivan Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Racehorse Flats Wind Wednesday, September 8. Racehorse Flats Wind is a new 400-megawatt wind farm in development in southern Macon and western Moultrie counties.
Currently in the early stages of development, Racehorse Flats will put enough clean electricity on the grid to power the equivalent of more than 128,000 U.S. homes and represents a $450 million capital investment in the area. Annual tax revenues for all taxing districts in the area are projected at more than $2.25 million, and the project will bring in additional revenue for the counties and other local taxing districts for its projected 30-year lifetime. Mental health and substance use issues are common. Nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults lives with a mental illness according to the National Institute of Mental Health. From 1999 to 2016, 630,000 people died from drug overdose according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Give someone in your community a hand by learning how to recognize and respond when someone might need help with the free Mental Health First Aid workshop offered by University of Illinois Extension and the North Central Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Center. Read More

Boys’ Golf

The Redskins golf team defeated Shelbyville, Okaw Valley, and Meridian with a low score of 175 during Senior Night at the Sullivan Country Club Thursday, Sept. 9.
Cam Dwyer shot a 40, and JJ Standerfer carded a 45
Bryce Boyle finished at 48, and Ben Bushue followed one stroke behind with a 49.
Wes Standerfer shot a 61, and Josh Stutzman rounded out the Redskins’ scores with a 73.
The day before, Sullivan fell to Maroa-Forsyth 173-181 in a dual meet at Sullivan Country Club.
Brett Bushue, Standerfer and Ben Bushue each shot a 45, and Camden Dwyer followed one stroke behind.
Will Haegen carded a 49.
The Redskins are scheduled to enter a triangular meet hosted by Okaw Valley at the Eagle Creek Golf Course, Sept. 17. Read More

The Sullivan Baking Brigade delivered a variety of treats to Illinois State Police, Moultrie County Sheriff’s Department, Sullivan Police Department and Sullivan Fire and Ambulance Department to show appreciation for all they do. The jumbo cards were made by the Spanish Club from Sullivan High School.

The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
