Findlay Walleye Fest. 3 on 3 Tourney

The Findlay Walleye Festival 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, in memory of Angela Marie Diss, will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 11 am at Findlay Park. There are three divisions, division one is for participants entering 5th, 6th and 7th grade; division two is for participants entering 8th, 9th, and 11th grades; and division 3 is a new bragging rights division for participants entering 11th grade through adults. Division 1 & 2 winners will receive medals. Entry form, waiver and $75 fee must be received by Thursday, July 22. Make checks payable to Findlay Walleye Festival. Mail to 312 E. 2021 Shelby County Pageant Winners

2021 Miss Shelby County Winners
The 2021 Miss and Junior Miss Shelby County Pageants were held on Sunday, June 27. The new Miss Shleby County will reign over the Shelby County Fair, attend area country events and parades, visit other local pageants, participate in the 2021 Special Olympics Family Fun Festival, attend the IAAF Zone Meetings, and compete in the Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant in January in Springfield. Pictured from left to right are First Runner Up-Bailey Prosser of Lakewood, Miss Shelby County Macey Hesselton of Herrick, People’s Choice Award-Trinity Shupe of Windsor and Second Runner Up-Bailey Prosser of Lakewood.

2021 Junior Miss Shelby County Winners
The Junior Miss Shelby County pageant was also held on Sunday, June 27. The new Junior Miss Shelby County will reign over the Shelby County Fair, she will attend area county events and parades, and will visit other local pageants. The Junior Miss winner does not compete at the state level, but usually attends the state pageant to cheer on her Miss Queen as she competes. Winners are: People’s Choice Award-Payton Shupe of Windsor (left), front center-Junior Miss Shelby County-Kristin Partlow of Neoga, back center-2019 Junior Miss Shelby County Kylie Smith of Shelbyville and at right First Runner Up- Alissa Shasteen of Shelbyville.

Jeepin’ In Memory of Jessi
On Saturday, July 10 at the Toy Bar in Sullivan, Jeepin’ in Memory of Jessi gathered to raise funds for the family of Shoni Anderson, daughter of Jeff and Becky (Clayton) Anderson. Five-year-old Shoni, was diagnosed with leukemia on February 1, 2021 and is undergoing chemotherapy. This year’s theme was Mardi Gras and participants dressed up in masks, beads, feathers and Mardi Gras colors of purple, green and gold.

Moultrie County Man Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison

Clint A. Hector, 37, of Sullivan, has been sentenced to ten years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
At a hearing on July 8, 2021, Judge Jeremy Richey accepted a plea in which Hector pled guilty to the offense of: Criminal Damage to Property (Damage in Excess $10,000 but not in Excess of $100,000), a Class 3 Felony, Moultrie County case 20-CF-71 Read More

Wits Wellness Research is Looking for Participants

A research team from the University of Illinois is looking for participants for the WITS Wellness Research Study. Any person 50 years and older who has not been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia is eligible. Participants can receive up to $60 for their participation in the study.
The study will include 12 weekly health and wellness sessions at various locations across the state including ones in Tuscola and Mattoon. The sessions will be fun, with interactive discussions and pen and paper activities on topics such as healthy eating, managing stress, improving sleep, and more. “This is a great opportunity to attend fun and engaging health sessions while helping Extension test and shape future programming,” says Chelsey Byers, Family Life Educator, University of Illinois Extension.
