Sullivan’s new medical center was to be completed in four weeks, Decatur Memorial Hospital officials told Sullivan City Council members. The building is about 8,000 square feet. The ALAH School Board met Wednesday August 17, a few hours after some had just had their first day back at school after summer break. Principals and staff were excited and still giddy from the day’s activities. Principal Seegmiller and Nathan Seal had spent the day grilling out and playing games for the students’ first day. “It was the best first day of school I’ve ever had. It was awesome!” Seal said happily.

The Moultrie County Beacon recently held job training classes for several of their consumers. Topics for the classes included resumes, on the job etiquette, financial exploitation and banking. Presenting the information were Stan Parks, Brittney Collins and Vonnie Lee.
Job etiquette included resumes, interviews, punctuality, dress for success, do’s and don’ts on the job, conflict on the job, boundaries, two weeks’ notice and sometimes, they are just your co-workers, not your friends. Consumers learned what to put on their resumes including job experience, job skills, volunteer time, references and earning preferences. Job etiquette included information such as no phone usage on the clock, avoiding gossip, keeping in contact with your supervisor, being flexible with hours or job changes and respecting co-workers’ privacy. Paige McLaughlin, of Sullivan, was named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester of the 2021-22 academic year at Illinois Wesleyan University. McLaughlin is a junior majoring in English - Writing. McLaughlin was among 743 students from 30 states and 17 countries named to the Spring 2022 Dean’s List. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a GPA of 3.50 or better during the semester, based on 4.0 for straight As.

Brady Moore of Lovington was recently recognized during the American Legion Illinois Premiere Boys State. He was elected President of the Senate and also received the John Lucas Model Citizen Award. Moore attends Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond High School.

Cub Scout Pack 6039 will have a join us night on Wednesday, August 31 from 6-8 pm at the Scout Cabin on the north end of Wyman Park. They welcome any boys from Sullivan, Bethany (OV) and Lovington in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. They are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces as well as some new ones. They are also looking for volunteers/parents that are willing to help out for their big events, become Den leaders for the different levels and to just be supporters of the Pack.
