Jim Wheeler

Jim Wheeler, 85, Sullivan, IL, died Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Jim was born April 11, 1934, in Decatur, the son of James E. and Nona (Sanders) Wheeler. While living in Greenville, Il., his mother died and Jim moved to Bethany to live with his grandparents, Otis and Clara Wheeler. He married Donna Shank in 1956 and had three sons, Brad, Kris and Derk. Donna died in 1991, after a long illness. Jim married Ann Poland in June 1994. Read More

Elaine Wood Hansen, age 90, of Brandon, Mississippi peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Castlewoods Place in Brandon.

The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond volleyball team split two matches this past week to finish the regular season with a 12-22 overall record and a 3-6 in the Lincoln Prairie Conference.
The Knights knocked off Arcola on Thursday in straight sets, 25-19, 25-17.
Mackenzi Bowles hit eight kills to lead the Knights, and Charley Condill collected two aces, two kills and three digs.
Alisha Frederick tallied three digs and 16 assists, while Addi Tinkle added two aces, three kills and two digs.
Michaela Powell served four aces to lead the Knights, while Cheyenne Chupp hit four kills.
Last Tuesday against Tri-County, ALAH lost in two sets, 25-15, 25-18.
Bowles hit eight kills and two digs, and Frederick added 11 assets and five digs.
Condill collected three aces, two kills and two digs, while Marta Marti Guillen served three aces.
Powell and Ashley Seegmiller each served two aces, and Powell added six digs.
Tinkle tallied four aces, two kills, three assists and two digs.
ALAH entered the Class 1A Cerro Gordo Regional as the No. 11 seeded team this week.[/s2If]

Lions Turkey Party is Coming

Turkeys, door prizes and more turkeys are in store for the Lions Turkey Party crowd in November.
The annual Lions Club Turkey Party is Friday, November 8 at the Sullivan American Legion.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and Beanie Babies will be given to children 10 and under.
Participants are entitled to one free game with each eyeglasses donation. The American Legion kitchen will be open.
Turkeys, door prizes, and more turkeys can be won as the games begin at 6:30 p.m.
This annual Sullivan Lions Club event helps raise funds for vision impaired, including the Lions eyeglasses program for adults and Lions Kids Camp for children with vision issues.
Sullivan’s Lions focus on local causes by giving $1000 scholarship to a Sullivan High School student in the spring.
Lions donate time and money to Moultrie County Habitat for Humanity, the Sullivan American Legion, Toys for Tots sponsored by Sullivan V.F.W Post 6410 and One Stop Community Christmas.
The Moultrie County Food Pantry receives regular support from the club as well as their participation in the Sullivan Elementary School Day of Giving, which also donates to the food pantry.

Lovington Auxiliary Hosts Soup Supper

A soup supper will be held by the Women’s Auxiliary Post 429 on Saturday, November 9 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The supper will be held at the Lovington Community Building located at 301 West State, Lovington. Meals are offered and Veterans eat free. A quilt raffle will also take place.

Edwin James “Jim” Taylor, 89, of Sullivan, passed away 8:35 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2019, at Mason Point, Sullivan.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2019, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation was held an hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home. Burial was in Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Read More

Sign collision at Agri-Fab

In the late afternoon of Saturday, May 31st, there was a single-vehicle accident, with the vehicle making contact with the Sullivan Agri-Fab factory signage located at the factory frontage on Hamilton Street. Per Sullivan Police Department’s Chief of Police, Andrew Pistorius, the airbag was deployed in the incident, and the driver refused medical treatment. No further information is available at this time.
