Sullivan basketball’s Emily White announced her intentions to play at Millikin University last week.
Emily White was one of four unanimous choices for the six-member all-Central Illinois Conference team in 2020 and earned all-CIC second team in 2019. Read More
Gifts For Nursing Home Residents

Dawn Kelley and her children Austin and Annika decided to make gifts for those living in nursing homes for Christmas. They made bracelets for the women and bought socks for the men. “We have a lot of friends on Facebook that have relatives in nursing homes,” said Dawn. “We just wanted to do something to spread cheer to those in nursing homes in Sullivan.” In total she and her children made 214 bracelets and bought 137 pairs of men’s socks to give to those in the nursing homes.
Dorjahn Named Cross Country Coach of the Year

A couple weeks ago, the Decatur Herald & Review named Dorjahn the 2020 Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Sunday, the Champaign News Gazette announced that Dorjahn was the All-Area Boys’ Cross-Country Coach of the Year.
Dorjahn took over as head coach of the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond boys’ cross country team in 2019.
Dorjahn guided his teams to two straight regional titles and a sectional title.
Dorjahn was first introduced to cross country at Eastern Illinois University and has been a fan of track and field, so he got involved with the ALAH cross country program. Read More

Although glasses are highly effective, people who wear them understand they may have to make a few concessions while doing so. Unlike contact lenses, which sit directly on the eye, glasses rest on the bridge of the nose. They may slightly impede peripheral vision or even slip down if not properly fitted. Those accustomed to wearing glasses in the cold weather understand fogging of the lenses is a nuisance they may be forced to confront. Leaders Optimistic with Moderna Vaccine on Horizon

Gov. JB Pritzker announced Friday that more than 17,000 doses of the first coronavirus vaccine have been administered to Illinois frontline health care workers outside of Chicago, up from 3,500 doses on Thursday.
Pritzker said Illinois hospitals could begin to receive shipments of a second COVID-19 vaccine, developed by the drug company Moderna, as early as next week. That announcement comes one day after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s advisory committee recommended the use of the Moderna vaccine in people ages 18 and older. The FDA on Friday evening granted Emergency Use Authorization for the Moderna vaccine.
The first vaccine, developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, received such authorization from the FDA last week. Read More

Is There a Dr. in the White House?

I’m sure you’ve been wondering where I fall on the whole Dr. Jill Biden kerfuffle.
I chose “kerfuffle” over “controversy” because it pairs so nicely with “malarkey.”
This issue caught fire a week ago when a regular contributor to The Wall Street Journal wrote an op-ed that suggests the first lady-to-be drop the “Dr.” title.
This elicited grenade-lobbing from various people and publications, even the Bidens.
Jill Biden has a doctorate in education. She went to grad school, she wrote a doctoral thesis, she earned her degree.
Joseph Epstein wrote his snarky op-ed in which he said the honorific is a “not unimportant matter.”

The Moultrie County COVID-19 update for December 18, 2020 is 14 additional cases of COVID-19 with ages ranging from 10-70s. The total residents tested positive to date is 1,126. Total COVID-19 related deaths to date is 13.
2020 Moultrie County Tentative Multiplier Announced

Moultrie County has been issued a tentative property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, Director of Illinois Department of Revenue.
The property assessment equalization factor, often called the “multiplier”, is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties, as required by law. This equalization is particularly important because some of the state’s 6,600 local taxing districts overlap into two or more counties (e.g. school districts, junior college districts, fire protection districts). If there were no equalization among counties, substantial inequities among taxpayers with comparable properties would result. Read More
