Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc. will be having a drive-thru senior expo on Friday, September 24 at the Sullivan American Legion, 8 E. Strain in Sullivan. Drive thru starts at Noon, no early entries. There will be a free lunch catered by Griffin’s BBQ Crew and Catering Service, LLC that is sponsored by State Representative Brad Halbrook and Senator Chapin Rose. The expo will be in the parking lot of the Sullivan American Legion. They ask that those attending form a single line of cars by the front door of the Legion. They will begin bringing goodie bags and meals out to vehicles at Noon. Drawings for the prizes will be live on Facebook the afternoon of Thursday, September 23 at 2 pm. Prize winners can pick up their prizes when they drive thru the Expo on Friday. Call 217-728-8521 by Friday, September 10 to reserve your meal and have your name entered into the drawings from various businesses and service organizations from Sullivan and the surrounding communities. You can call Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Come join in for the 59th Annual Arthur Mennonite Relief Sale held August 27 and 28 at the Otto Center, ½ mile south of Arthur, Illinois.
The activities will begin Friday at 4:30 p.m. with a pulled BBQ pork dinner and the auction starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday a pancake and sausage breakfast runs from 6-10 a.m., with the auction beginning at 8 a.m. The silent auction is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The children’s activities begin Saturday at 9 a.m. and feature a train ride around the grounds. The children’s auction will begin at 10 a.m. A featured activity for the children will be a petting zoo.
Lunch items will begin to be served at 11 a.m. including a chicken dinner, butterfly pork chops, bacon burgers and river fries. Other food offerings include a full lunch stand, peadros (taco salad), hot homemade pretzels, lemon shake-ups, fried pies, ice cream, slushies, root beer floats and a variety of baked goods. Be sure to take home some of the homemade yeast donuts, tea rings and cinnamon rolls made fresh both days.
The auction features a variety of handmade quilts, locally crafted Amish wood furniture and many other items. The proceeds from the auction are distributed with 80% given to Mennonite Central Committee and 20% remaining in the local community.

There will be a gospel sing on Saturday, August 21 at 6 pm at the Allenville Christian Church. Rick Alan King will be performing, a gifted gospel singer from Goodlettsville, TN. Refreshments will follow. A love offering will be taken.

The Annual Operation Secret Santa Auction will be on August 21 at the Toy Bar from 4 pm to 1 am. The Kirby’s food truck will be there at 5 pm. Look them up on Facebook at Secret Santa’s Silent Auction Group. Pick up for online silent auction is 4 to 6 pm. The live auction will be at 6 pm. Identity Crisis starts at 8 pm. Bring your lawn chairs.

The Bethany Advocates and Support Organization (BASO) and Village of Bethany are sponsoring the BASO Main Street Car Show in downtown Bethany on Saturday, August 21 from 4 to 7 pm. Entry fee is $10. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entries. Trophies will be presented at 6:30 pm, awards being given out will be People’s Choice, Mayor’s Choice, Chief’s Choice and Top Ten Awards-Participant Judging. All makes and model are welcome. There will be a 50/50 raffle. Music will be provided by Nidal Entertainment and food vendors will be Bethany Fire Department, Bethany Diner and ice cream and desserts by the Bethany United Methodist Church.

In the Wednesday, July 7 issue of the News Progress we listed the winners of the various competitions at Pack the Park which was held in Wyman Park on July 4. We reported the wrong winner of the Greased Pig contest. The winner was actually Ayden Matheson.
