Race Party

Standerfer Racing will have a race party on Saturday, March 27 at the Sullivan VFW, 1132 IL-32. Social hour starts at 5 pm, taco bar at 6 pm and auction at 7 pm. Cost is $10 per person at the door and free for children 12 and under. There will be an auction, raffles and 50/50. No outside drinks allowed, cash bar.

American Pickers to Film In Illinois

The American Pickers will be returning to Illinois and plan to film episodes of the History Channel television series throughout the area in May 2021.
American Pickers is a documentary series that explores the world of antique “picking. The hit show follows skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques. The show is currently looking for leads. If you or someone you know has a large, private collection or accumulation of antiques that the Pickers can spend the better part of the day looking through, send them your name, phone number, location and description of the collection with photos to: americanpickers@cineflix.com or call 855-OLD-RUST or contact them on Facebook @GotAPick.

Illinois Sheriffs’ Association Scholarships

The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association announces that it will be awarding over $58,000 in college scholarships throughout the State of Illinois to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2021-2022 academic year. The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the State of Illinois, full-time online learning is acceptable.
Sheriff Chris Sims, Moultrie County, will be awarding one scholarship in the amount of $500.
There will be no restriction on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex or national origin. The only limitations are as follows:
• Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents
• Scholarships must be utilized at institutions of higher learning within the State of Illinois
• Students must be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2021-2022 school year (excluding summer session).
Applications are now available at your local Sheriff’s office or on the ISA Website www.ilsheriff.org/youth-2/ Students must complete the application; answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Sheriff’s office in their permanent county of residence by March 15, 2021 (must be postmarked by this date). Mobile Home Privilege Tax

Tax bills will be mailed on March 15, 2021 and are due on May 17, 2021. Taxes may be mailed to Moultrie County Collector, 10 South Main, Suite 10, Sullivan, IL. 61951. Taxes may also be paid at all Moultrie County Banks: Scott State Bank Bethany/Dalton City/Sullivan/Mt. Zion, State Bank of Arthur a Division of Morton Community Bank, Arthur Community Bank, First National Bank of Arthur, First Community Bank of Moultrie County in Sullivan and Lovington and First Mid-Illinois Bank Sullivan. Applications for the exemption based on the age of 65 and older and the disabled, must be filed in our office. Office hours are Monday – Friday 8:30-4:30. If you no longer own a mobile home and received a tax bill or the information on the bill is incorrect, please contact our office by calling 217-728-4032. The delinquent penalty for mobile homes is $25.00 per month or any part thereof not to exceed $100.00.

Funds for Energy Assistance Still Available

The C.E.F.S Economic Opportunity Corporation’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) still has energy assistance funding available for winter utility assistance. Any household that has applied as of last July 27, 2020 or after would not be eligible to apply again unless they are being disconnected from their utility service. LIHEAP provides one-time grants to help income eligible households pay for their winter utility expenses.
C.E.F.S. began taking LIHEAP applications on July 27th for the current program year 2021. To date in Moultrie county energy benefits totaling $140,235.00 have been approved for 252 households. The average payment per household was $556. Additionally, in Moultrie county 27 households received $12,549.00 in emergency reconnection assistance. The average reconnection assistance payment was $465.
Items needed at the time of application are the household’s proof of all income for the previous 30 days including the day of application, proof of Social Security numbers for all members of the household and current heating and electric bills.
Thirty-day income eligibility guidelines for LIHEAP for the 2021 program by size of household are as follows:

3-$3,620
4-$4,367
5-$5,113
For each additional member add $747
Due to COVID-19 restrictions intake is conducted by phone, internet and very limited in-person contact. The application process can be started with our on-line LIHEAP pre-application at www.cefseoc.org/LIHEAP-application.
Phone appointments for LIHEAP can be made by contacting the C.E.F.S. Moultrie County Outreach office at 114 E. Harrison St. Sullivan, phone 217-728-7721, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Funding for LIHEAP is provided through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO). C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation is the local administering agency for Christian, Clay, Effingham, Fayette, Montgomery, Moultrie, and Shelby counties.

Drive Thru Dinner

The OV scholarship and OV blessings fundraiser Drive thru dinner will be held on March 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Findlay Legion. The menu is homemade chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls and white or chocolate Texas sheet cake. Advance tickets only are $8.00 and ticket deadline is March 19. For tickets call Chris Coventry at 217-273-8529, Dave Brooks at 217-273-2425 or Pat Brooks at 217-273-2421. Proceeds go towards OV Scholarship Fund and OV Blessings. Dinner sponsored by the Findlay Legion, Auxiliary and Sons.

Cemetery Cleanup

The City of Sullivan will begin its quarterly cleanup of Greenhill Cemetery on Monday, March 15. Residents with surface flowers, wreaths, grave blankets or any other ground surface decorations should remove them by Sunday, March 14 if they wish to keep them. The cemetery personnel will not pick up any flowers in vases or on the monuments unless deteriorated. The cemetery does not have a facility to store unclaimed decorations, so if you wish to keep your items, please pick them up by this date. Allow at least one week before replacing any items due to the excessive amount of items on various graves. All decorations, flowers and benches must be placed in the monument row, no items are allowed to be placed in the middle, foot, bordering or elsewhere on the grave site. Items that are not placed by the rules and regulations will be removed. If you have questions or concerns call 217-728-8043.

C.E.F.S. Offers Scholarships

C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation is offering scholarships for income eligible individuals who wish to continue their education in an Illinois institution approved full-time post-secondary course of study. The course of study must lead up to a degree and/or employment, with particular consideration given to a field of study in high technology areas or other growth occupations.
Listed below are the Income Eligibility Guidelines at 200% Poverty level:
Family Size 30 Day
1: $2,147.00
2: $2,903.00
3: $3,660.00
4: $4,417.00
5: $5,173.00
6: $5,930.00
7: $6,687.00
8: $7,443.00
For family units with more than eight members, add $9,080 for each additional member.
Applications are available at any C.E.F.S. Outreach Office, High School Counselor, IETC, local colleges and the web site at www.cefseoc.org. Completed applications with all necessary documentation must be received in the County Outreach Office by 4 p.m. April 1, 2021.
Applicants are screened for eligibility after the deadline. A committee of C.E.F.S. Board of Directors and staff will interview the eligible applicants prior to choosing the winners. Scholarship funds will be available for the FY21/22 school year.
Funding for the program is made possible by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity as part of the Community Services Block Grant Program.

Sullivan Youth Baseball/Softball

Sullivan Youth Baseball/Softball registration for 2021 is now open until March 6, 12:00pm (noon).
SYBS has leagues for many ages levels, beginning with T-Ball for children entering Kindergarten in the fall. The leagues are as follows: Tball - (K - 1st Grades) Pinto - (2nd-3rd Grades) Boys - (4th - 11th grades) 9-10 – Mustang,11-12 – Bronco, 13-15 – Pony. Girls - (4th - 11th grades) 9-10, 11-12, 13-15.
This year, registration is available entirely online. If you prefer to register using paper forms, they may be downloaded from the SYBS website. Paper registrations and payments can be dropped off at the Civic Center front desk or Sullivan Elementary School office. To register online, go to www.sullivanyouthbaseball.org/registration
Practices typically begin early in April with games starting early May through June.

AYCE Pancake and Sausage Breakfast

The Strasburg Lions club will hold its annual AYCE Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on Saturday, February 27 from 6:30 to 10 a.m. There will be indoor dining, as well as carry outs available. The menu includes all you can eat pancakes and sausage, applesauce, and drink and/or homemade biscuits and gravy (not AYCE). The free will donation goes towards helping the visually and hearing impaired and village improvements.
