Windsor Storm Memorial Public Library’s Summer Reading program “Reading Is Sweet” starts in June. Join them on Tuesdays in June for the program. Ages 3-7 will meet from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and ages 8-12 meet from 11 am to Noon. Anyone can attend. A library card is only necessary if you will be checking books out. You can read books from your personal library and still get credit. Children ages 3-7 are expected to read at least five books a week and children ages 8-12 are expected to read at least 60 minutes a week. A cake and cookie decorator will be visiting the library on June 8. Douglas Hart Nature Center will be visiting the library on June 15. St. Columcille Church will host a community blood drive on Monday, June 7 from 3 pm to 6 pm in the church hall at 516 W. Jackson St in Sullivan. Donors who last gave blood on or before April 12, 2021 are eligible to give at this drive.

The Sullivan American Legion Post will be having services for Memorial Day. On Sunday, May 30 they will have a service at the Jonathan Creek Church at 11:30 am. On Monday, May 31 they will step from the square at 7:45 am and march to Greenhill Cemetery for the 8 am service. Becky Lawson will be the speaker. At 10 am they will have another service at the Moultrie County Memorial Cemetery. On Sunday, June 6 the Oak Grove Church will have their Memorial Day services at 11:30 am. The Bethany American Legion Post 507 and Sons of the American Legion Post 507 will be having a Memorial Day service on Monday, May 31 at 9 am in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery at the Civil War Monument. Pastor Marge Overlot will be the speaker.

Young ladies that would like to participate in the 2021 Miss Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageants need to turn in applications by June 4. The ages for Junior Miss and Little Miss have changed for this year only. Ages for the pageant are Miss (16-21), Junior Miss (11-15) and Little Miss (5-8). The new Miss Moultrie-Douglas will receive a $2,000 scholarship. Scholarships will also be given to the first and second runners-up. The new Junior Miss and Little Miss will receive a cash award as will first and second runners-up. For more information contact Sandy Hoke at 493-3583.

The University of Illinois Extension in cooperating partnership with sponsors Decatur Catholic Charities and Windsor School District will be having a mobile food pantry on Wednesday, June 16 from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Windsor Grade School. A mobile food pantry delivers a 2 week supply of food per family in rural communities. Any individual or family that does not have a steady food supply qualifies to receive food. No financial information is required. This distribution is open to all, not only residents of Windsor. To sign up call 217-855-5616 during business hours of 8 am to 4 pm Monday-Friday prior to June 8. Once your form is completed by phone, you will be given a number to bring with you on the day of distribution. If you lose your number, you need to bring identification. The food will be distributed according to your household size on June 16 from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the Windsor Grade School cafeteria.

Sullivan Dance Studio’s Competition Team attended their final competition of the year April 16-18 in St. Louis. The team had dancers in four different sessions categories at the Star Systems Dance Competition.
Specialty numbers began the team’s competition Saturday morning. All received Elite High Gold ratings. In the age 10-12 category, Elizabeth Owens and Miah Voegel received 2nd Place overall with their “I’m Number One” Musical Theater duet and Gabrielle Carpenter, Avery Renfro and Korry Thilker’s Musical Theater Trio received 5th Place overall. In the age 7-9 category, Adalee Foster and Sophie Foster’s “Lilo and Stitch” Jazz routine received 2nd Place overall. Solos in the 4 and under and 7-9 categories also competed during this session. Gianna Krieger placed 2nd overall in the 4 and under category with her open category “Under the Sea performance. Miah Voegel placed 5th overall with her “Show Off” Musical Theater solo, Avery Florey placed 8th overall with her “Dance Like Your Daddy” Jazz number and Adalee Foster placed 9th overall with her “Spoonful of Sugar” Ballet routine.
On Saturday night the two oldest dancers competed with their solos. Both received Platinum ratings and 2nd Place Overall in their respective age categories. Sarina Voegel competed in the 13-15 age category with her “Don’t Give Up on Me” Acrobatic routine and Elizabeth Owens competed in the 16-18 age category with her “Miss Banana” Musical Theater routine. On Sunday morning three dancers competed with their solos in the age 10-12 category. Performing were Lillian Hood with her “Haunted” Acrobatic routine, Lyla Wright with “Uptown Girl” Acrobatic routine and Synthea Doss with “My Adidas” Hip Hop routine.
Awards from the small group competition portion of the weekend’s events are as follows: “Headphones” Hip Hop received first place overall in the age 7-9 competition, while “Grasslands” Acrobatic routine finished 2nd place overall in the same age category. In the 10-12 age division the team’s Musical Theatre routine “Jailhouse Rock” finished 3rd place overall and the Lyrical routine “Live Your Story” finished 4th place overall. All four routines received an Elite High Gold rating.
The Sullivan Dance Studio Competition Team will perform some of their team routines at the Sullivan Dance Studio Spring Recital on June 3.
