The University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana recently announced their August 2020 graduates. Graduates from our area are Logan Tipsword of Bethany and Dakota Clayton and Heather Cody of Sullivan.

The University of Illinois Extension, in cooperating partnership with sponsors Decatur Catholic Charities and Lovington Ambulance Service, will be holding a mobile food pantry on Wednesday, April 21 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Lovington Ambulance Service. A mobile food pantry delivers a two week supply of food per family in rural communities. Any individual or family that does not have a steady food supply qualifies to receive food. No financial information is required. This distribution is open to all, not only residents of Lovington. Sign up must be done prior to April 14 by calling 217-855-5616 during business hours of 8 am to 4 pm Monday-Friday. Once your form is completed by phone, you will be given a number to bring with you on the day of distribution. If you lose your number, you will need to bring identification. Food will be distributed according to household size on April 21 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. You will need to drive thru the Lovington Ambulance parking lot.

Eastern Illinois University recently announced their Fall 2020 dean’s list. Students named to the list from our area are: Abigail Abercrombie of Arthur, Sarah Helfrich and Christina Menna of Lovington and Holly Cole, Tatum Ellis, Hannah Elzy, Dayden Gardner, Alyssa Pearson and Mackenzie Ruppert all of Sullivan.

Hometown Love will be collecting monetary donations in downtown Lovington on Saturday, March 27 from 9 am to 11 am. Proceeds will be used to beautify Lovington, one home at a time. Hometown Love is a group of local citizens willing to work and help you regain the beauty of your home. They are neighbors helping neighbors.
There are properties in the community that could use some TLC. By creating an inviting, attractive community, their hope is to attract homeowners and businesses.
Hometown Love will mow, trim and cleanup yards. They will also be awarding a Most Improved House of the Month. Each month the contest will be open for residents to submit before and after photos. A panel of judges will choose as winner each month to win a prize.
To receive help fill out an application which can be found online or at the 1st Community Bank – Hardware Branch. Recipients will be chosen by the group reviewing applications and choosing one or two yards a month depending on volunteers and the extent of work needing completed.
Funding will come from local supporters, businesses (monetary or items used for the project), fundraisers and grants. To get involved, like their Facebook page and follow the events and post future projects.

Ten Bones on the Marrowbone friendly bbq competition will be on Saturday, March 27 starting at 10 a.m. in downtown Bethany. Competition will be KCBS rules and wood source cooking only. $40 entrance fee and blind judging. Vending will be available at the event with live entertainment by Pizzazz. 50% of the proceeds will go to the winner and 50% of proceeds to Bethany Fire Department for rescue equipment. The Moultrie-Sullivan Fair Board held their Annual Fair Board meeting on March 11 at the Moultrie-Sullivan Fairgrounds where they elected 2021 officers. Nick Voegel was elected president, Libby Spannagel as Vice-President, Dale Crawford as Secretary/Treasurer and Ginger Voegel as Public Relations. The Moultrie-Sullivan Fair will be held June 25-26, 2021. The tentative schedule for the fair will be published soon on their website and Facebook page. Improvements and use of the fairgrounds in 2020 were reviewed. Other updates that will come in 2021 for inside the building and some outside improvements were also discussed. An annual fundraising letter campaign was planned, which will begin later this spring. The website will be updated soon and the 2021 Fairbook will be uploaded in the next few weeks. The Strasburg Lions Club will host their All You Can Eat fish fry on Friday, March 26 from 4:30 - 7 pm at the Strasburg Community Center (1/2 block east of Marathon Gas Station). Dine in and carry out options will be available. The following will be the menu:

The Sullivan Police Dept. will hold an unclaimed bicycle auction on Monday, March 22, at noon. Bikes will not be available for inspection and will be auctioned as-is. The auction will be held at the police department located at 307 S. Van Buren St., Sullivan.
