Three Ways To Vote In November

News Progress Posted on September 23, 2020 by webmasterSeptember 23, 2020

•September 23, 2020•

The Secretary of State’s office recently sent out a mailing regarding Vote by Mail, which is a little misleading and has caused many voters thinking that Vote By Mail is the only method of voting for the November 3, 2020 election.
People have three methods to vote in November:
• Vote By Mail
• Early Vote in the Clerk’s office starting on September 24
• Go to the Polls on Election Day
If Voters do not wish to Vote By Mail, all they need to do is to throw any correspondence referring to Vote By Mail away.
It our understanding that the Secretary of State’s office will be sending another reminder letter to Voter’s in October.
Most area counties have a County website with a Vote By Mail Application on it for registered voters to complete.
Reminder to individuals not registered to vote…it is not too late to register, registration ends October 6, but Grace Period Registration and Voting begins October 7 and runs through Election Day in the County Clerk’s office only, where a person can register and vote at the same time.

Correction

News Progress Posted on September 23, 2020 by webmasterSeptember 23, 2020

•September 23, 2020•

In the first sentence of last week’s county board article it was incorrectly stated that it was the Macon County Board when in fact it was the Moultrie County Board. Also, the board approved hiring a part-time assistant states attorney because the current full-time assistant States Attorney has resigned. The part-time assistant states attorney will work until a full-time assistant States Attorney is hired.

Vote by Mail Ballots Being Mailed

News Progress Posted on September 23, 2020 by webmasterSeptember 23, 2020

•September 23, 2020•

For Voters who has applied for a Vote By Mail Ballot, those ballots will be mailed out beginning September 24, 2020 for the November 3, 2020 General Election. Voters should make sure that their name and address is what appears on the envelope before opening. If there is a discrepancy, call the Clerk’s office at 728-4389 for instructions on how to proceed.
England stated that it is very important that Voters be certain to follow instructions on their Vote By Mail packet before returning it. After the ballot is voted, the ballot is folded and placed in a Certification Ballot Envelope. The Certification on the back of that envelope MUST be completed, signed and dated. The Certification Ballot Envelope will then be placed in the Official Vote By Mail Balloting Material-First Class Mail envelope, postage affixed and mailed to the Clerk’s office, OR, a person can hand-deliver their Official Vote By Mail envelope containing the Certification Envelope/Ballot to the Courthouse. For the Voter’s convenience there is a drop box on the first floor near the security guards or ballot envelopes may be delivered directly to the County Clerk’s office. Ballots MUST be in the proper envelopes. All mailed ballots MUST be postmarked on or before November 3, 2020, and all dropped off ballots MUST be dropped off on or before 7:00 p.m. on November 3, 2020.
The County Clerk’s office is open weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with additional hours of business on Wednesdays October 21 and October 28, 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays October 24 and October 31, 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. England said that due to Covid-19 many Voters are looking at alternative methods to vote to avoid going to the polls on Election Day; Voting By Mail or Early Voting are the solutions. For those Voting By Mail, the last day the Clerk can mail out a ballot is October 29 and it is pertinent that ballots be completed and returned on a timely basis. For Voters wanting to Early Vote, voting in the Clerk’s office begins on September 24.

Mobile Food Pantry

News Progress Posted on September 9, 2020 by webmasterSeptember 8, 2020

•September 9, 2020•

Are you aware there is a mobile food pantry in Sullivan? Sullivan Church of God partners with Catholic Charities of Decatur, to provide food boxes filled with basic needs that include milk, bread, eggs, canned vegetables, pasta, paper products and frozen foods, to any individual or family in the Moultrie County area. The size of the box(es) are based on the number of members in the family, and this is indicated on the registration form. The only restriction is the recipient(s) must be a resident of Moultrie County. However, because of the dividing line between Moultrie and Douglas County, an exception is made for the entire village of Arthur. If anyone outside Moultrie County needs the same assistance, the church can put them in contact with their county’s MFP coordinator.
Recipients must be registered prior to the distribution day as the boxes are filled according to the specific individual and their dietary needs and restrictions. There is a link on the church’s website at https://sullivanchog.org that will take them to an online form. Once that form is completed and the conditions have been agreed to, the recipient will click “submit.” The information will be sent to Sullivan Church of God, who is instrumental in compiling the list to be sent to Catholic Charities. If there is no access to the internet or any type of technological equipment, individuals may call the church at (217) 728-7855, during normal business hours, and the office administrator will register them over the phone.
Registration typically opens four to six weeks before the distribution day and this, too, will be posted on the church’s website. In addition, a handout will be given to all of the recipients on distribution day, reminding them of the next Mobile Food Pantry date and when that registration will open. Registration closes approximately ten days before the distribution day. The next MFP distribution is October 19 and registration opens on September 10.
Because of COVID-19, recipients are asked to pull up to the front of the church, under the portico, staying in their car. A volunteer will meet them at their car, take their name, give them a number that
corresponds to their box(es), and will direct them on to the fellowship hall. There, a volunteer will take their number, retrieve the corresponding box(es) and load them into the vehicle. All volunteers observe COVID restrictive guidelines including masks, gloves, and social distancing.
In addition to the every-other-month distribution days, the November date gets a little “extra” in the form of items necessary for a full Thanksgiving meal, including the turkey, provided by the Sullivan
Church of God. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the distribution schedule for 2021 will be the third Monday in January, March, May, July, September, and November. If a date needs to be changed, for any reason, the change will be posted on the church’s website.
If you have any questions about the Mobile Food Pantry or how to get registered, please contact Lenda Johnson, Office Administrator, at (217) 728-7855.
