Fender Named To Dean’s List

Anna Fender of Sullivan has been named to the 2020 spring semester Dean’s List at Ohio Wesleyan University. To earn Dean’s List recognition, Ohio Wesleyan students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes.

Safer Trick or Treat

The Sullivan Chamber & Economic Development has decided to modify Safe Trick or Treat into Safer Trick or Treat this year! To ensure the safety of our students and community this year we will modify our traditional event...
We will collect monetary donations or candy from businesses. To purchase candy or use the candy donated. We typically have 600 children attend the event and plan to serve that many with this event.
We will assemble treat bags for kids with the donated/purchased candy. We will have a list of participating businesses who supported the bags.
Those who donate can include any type if bag filler they choose, For example: Flyers, coupons, anything to promote your business that is family friendly. Sullivan School District will hand candy out to school age children, we will work with local daycare providers to reach as many children who are not school age
If you would like to save yourself time and donate money toward the Safer Trick or Treat candy.

Binnion Awarded Scholarship

Hannah N. Binnion of Sullivan was awarded a Dean’s Transfer Scholarship from Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the 2020-2021 academic year. Binnion is majoring in human nutrition and dietetics and transferred from Lake Land College. Scholarships are based on academic merit and the student’s potential for superior achievement in college. Dean’s Transger Scholars must have a minimum 3.50 gpa and completed 30 transferable credit hours.

Petitions Available

Residents of the Village of Lovington wishing to become candidates for municipal office in the April 6, 2021, election may pick up their candidate petition sheets beginning immediately.
Offices up for election are President, Clerk and (3) Village Trustee positions and 1 unexpired 2 year term for Trustee.
Petitions are to be picked up at the Village Office, located at 222 S Railroad Street, Lovington IL.
Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The filing period for petitions will be December 14-21, 2020. On the final day of the filing period, December 21, we will accept petitions until 5:00 p.m.
To qualify as a candidate, you must be a registered voter, must not have been convicted in any court located in the United States of a felony crime, and meet the one-year residency requirement prior to the election date of April 6, 2020.

Drive Thru Pork Chop Supper

The Clarence Bixler American Legion Post 409 will be hosting a drive thru pork chop supper on Monday, October 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each. Tickets must be purchased in advance from Chris Coventry, at R&K One Stop, from a Legion member or by calling 217-620-9187.

Community Thanksgiving Meal

Sullivan Southern Baptist will be hosting a Community Thanksgiving Meal on November 28 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The meal is a free traditional Thanksgiving meal. Please call by November 22 to make your reservation at 728-8471. Leave a clear message with your name, phone number and the number in your party.

Legion 50/50 Drawing

The Sullivan American Legion is selling tickets for a 50/50 drawing where 50% of the proceeds will go to the Sullivan Police Department for the purchase of a K-9. Ticket cost is $5.00 for one, $10 for three and $20 for seven and tickets can be purchased at the Legion. Drawing will be held on Saturday, October 31 at 7 p.m. at the Legion.

OV School District Board Candidate Packets Available

Moultrie County Clerk, Georgia England, announces that Okaw Valley CUSD #302 Board Candidate packets for the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election are available for pickup in the Moultrie County Clerk’s office located in the Courthouse, 10 S. Main, Ste. 6, Sullivan, Illinois. Circulation for Candidate Petitions is now to the last date of the filing period, which is December 21, 2020. Filing of Petitions will be in the County Clerk’s office beginning Monday December 14, 2020 to Monday December 21, 2020. Hours of filing are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except on the last day of filing, when the office will remain open until 5:00 p.m. If two or more candidates file their Petitions simultaneously as of the opening hour of the filing period (December 14) or within the last hour of the filing period (December 21), a lottery will be held December 22, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. in the County Clerk’s office to determine candidate placement on the April 6, 2021 Consolidated ballot. Four seats on the seven-member Okaw Valley Board of Education will be filled at the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election. The terms for the four seats will expire in April 2025. School Board Member qualifications and requirements are: (1) be a registered voter; (2) be a U.S. citizen, age 18 or over, and a resident of the State of Illinois and the territory encompassing the district for one year preceding the Election; and (3) not be a child sex offender as defined in Section 11-9-3 of the Criminal Code of 2012. Okaw Valley School Board members are elected at large. Benefit For Alaina

A Benefit for Alaina will be held on Saturday, October 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Shamrock Pub and Harley’s Hideout in Dalton City. There will be a motorcycle/jeep run with registration at 9 a.m. and it is $10 per person. Kickstands up at 10 a.m. There will be bands playing starting at 7 p.m. They are Gutterbound, No Back Up Plan and 99 Proof. There will be a live auction from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and all day silent auction.The car and bike show will be 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is $10 per entry. Spring concert

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
