Elks Hoop Shoot Set

The annual Charleston Elks #623 National Hoop Shoot is Dec. 14 at the Mattoon Middle School.
The National contest in its 48th year is a free throw competition for ages 8-13. Three divisions each for boys and girls will shoot 25 free throws for best score.
Winners advance to the district level in January at Robinson.
Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. with competition starting at 9:45. For further information contact Rod Franklin at 345-9668.
The event is free and any expenses past the local level will be covered by The Elks National Foundation.

Collage of Faith in Lovington

The Collage of Faith will be singing Southern Gospel and Christmas carols at the First Baptist Church of Lovington.
The concert begins at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at the church located at 360 Springfield Rd. Lovington.

Sparrow’s Kids Auction Dec. 7

Sparrow’s Unlimited 25th annual Christmas for Kid’s Auction is Saturday December 7 at Jerry’s East End in Lovington.
Auction items are available for viewing all day with the auction held at East End beginning at 5:30 p.m. There are way too many items to list so come early to see everything.
There will be a gun raffle; meat board raffles and 50/50 raffles held every hour.
Menu is Fried Bologna, party potatoes and green beans. Food will be served around 3:30 p.m.
Join the fun! All proceeds will help families in need.

Christmas Dinner at Solid Rock Chapel

Dine in and carry out meals are available with delivery available to Sullivan residents.

One Hundred People Who Care

The ALAH CUSD #305 Education Foundation has started a new fund-raising group to support educational opportunities for the students in the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond district.
The group, called One hundred People Who Care ALAH District #305, will meet for the first time Thursday, December 5, at 6:30 at La Cascada in Arthur.
Members and those wishing to join will gather to socialize with other people who care, to hear from teachers and students who have already benefitted from foundation grants and scholarships, and to aid in funding future events.
Those who have not yet joined can donate $200 a year individually, as couples, or in groups of up to four friends by making four $50 donations at the meetings each year or can donate the entire $200 at the first meeting.
The $20,000 raised by members will go a long way to support senior scholarships, faculty mini-grants, 1-to-1 Chrome Books, cultural excursions, and much more.
At the April meeting, members will enjoy food and fellowship; then the Foundation Board will announce the new scholarship and faculty mini-grant recipients.
Members of the Foundation Board look forward to seeing at least 100 people at the meeting Thursday night.

Shelby Christian Christmas Fair

The Shelby Christian Church, 200 North Hickory Street, Shelbyville is having a Christmas vendor and craft fair Saturday, Dec. 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Over 25 vendors are featured along with a silent auction with many items and a bake sale with a lot of goodies
Rork’s Pork Barbecue will start serving lunch at 11:00 a.m.
The proceeds from entry fees, bake sale, & silent auction will go to Shelby Christian Church Mission Trip.

Candidates File on The First Day

Monday, Nov. 25 was the first day to file as a candidate for the March 17, 2020 consolidated primary election.
Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England reported when her office opened at 8:30 a.m. former Democrat County Board member Gary P. Smith was first to file and will be first on the ballot.
Democrat Rita Florey will be second on the ballot. She Filed at 8:38 a.m.
Republicans Elizabeth Houser, who was appointed to fill Tim Rose’s vacancy on the county board and incumbent Kevin McReynolds filed at the same time and their ballot location with be determined by lottery at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Republican Circuit Clerk Christa S. Helmuth; Coroner Lynn Reed; and State’s Attorney Tracy Weaver also filed Monday morning.

School Host Meeting on Special Ed

On Tuesday, December 3, at 2:00 pm, a meeting conducted by the Sullivan School District will take place at Sullivan Unit Office, 725 North Main Street, Sullivan, IL 61951 in the conference room.
The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the district’s plans for providing special education services to students with disabilities who attend private schools and home schools within the district for the 2019-2020 school year.

Protz Memorial Service at Faith Lutheran

There will be a Memorial Service for Bill and Jackie Protz on Saturday, November 30 at 1:00p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church.
Bill and Jackie Protz of Sullivan died in an Montgomery County automobile accident Nov. 16 while returning from the Vandalia High School play off game with their granddaughter Jenna and her friend Holly Lidy who both perished in the crash.
Services were held Nov. 22 at the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
