Shelby Craft Fair

Shelby Christian Church is holding a Christmas Vendor and Craft Fair in Shelbyville from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Over 25 vendors will be at the Hickory Street Church along with a Silent Auction with many items, a bake sale with a lot of goodies.
Rork’s Pork Barbecue will start serving lunch at 11 a.m.
The proceeds from entry fees, bake sale, & silent auction will go to Shelby Christian Church Mission Trip.

Santa Letters

The Moultrie County News Progress is offering a chance to send letters to Santa.
Santa’s North Pole drop box will be placed in front of the Monroe Street office this week.
Plans are to publish all letters in The News Progress on Wednesday, December 18 to give Santa Claus time to figure out who has been naughty or nice.
Letters may also be sent to santa@newsprogress.com or by mailing to Santa Claus c/o News Progress PO Box 290, Sullivan 61951.
Letters should be received no later than Friday, December 13.

Dove Financial Assistance

Dove Financial Assistance, a program of Dove, Inc. is coming to Moultrie County to assist those seeking one-time financial assistance for an emergency need.
This program began serving clients on Wednesday, November 20, at the United Methodist Church, 216 W. Jefferson, Sullivan. The hours will be Wednesday mornings, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
DFA is a joint effort of area religious organizations to give monetary support to persons who have emergency financial needs. DFA provides a systematic way to verify needs and provides a central location for persons seeking assistance. Those seeking assistance fill out an application which is reviewed and decisions to requests we can grant are determined, up to $300. Funds are distributed directly to the vendor. A person can be helped more than once. However, 365 days must pass before he or she may be granted assistance again.
The Coordinator also works with other service providers, making referrals and sharing other agency services with applicants.
Rev. Shane Hartman is the Coordinator for the program. DFA is also in Shelby and Macon County. The DFA phone number for all program is 217. 433.7435 and Dove’s website is doveinc.org.

Farm Credit Scholarship

Farm Credit of Illinois is offering 42000 in agriculture scholarships.
Scholarships are available to high school seniors pursuing careers in agriculture. Recipients receive $1000 in 2020 fall semester and $1000 in 2022 fall semester.
Deadline to submit an application is Feb. 28, 2020. Apply at www.farmcreditIL.com/scholarship Farm credit serves the southern 60 counties in Illinois.

Wyatt Earp Featured

The Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society will hold their Annual Dinner and Program on Thursday, Nov. 21 at the Arthur Christian Church on Vine Street in Arthur.
The guest speaker for the evening will be James Wilhelm of Peoria as Wyatt Earp and his program is entitled “My Side of the Story”.
The program will be at 7:30 and is free and open to the public. Dinner will be offered prior to the program.
Reservations can be made at the Heritage Center in Sullivan Mon. or Sat. from noon to three. Reservations can also be made by sending your check to The Heritage Center, 117 E. Harrison St., Sullivan, IL. 61951-0588. The last day to make reservations will be Sat., Nov. 16th from noon to 3:00 or by calling 217-728-4085
The Center will be closed on Mon. the 11th Veterans Day and also the Sat. after Thanksgiving.

Democrats Offer Supper

You are invited to join your friends and neighbors at the Democrat Spaghetti Supper held Friday, Nov. 15 at the Sullivan American Legion. Get your chances at the 50/50 raffle and remember Veterans and kids 12 and under eat free.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m., speakers begin at 6:00.

Help a Friend Benefit Nov. 23

The Help a Friend Benefit for Edna Bailey begins with a Jeep/All vehicle run from 12:00 to 4:00p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 from the Sullivan American Legion.
Line up for the run is at the Legion Post 68 parking lot on East Strain St. an noon.
Meal service and silent auction begins at 4:00 p.m. with the auction starting at 5:00 p.m. there is a 50/50 raffle, bake sale and entertainment by Roger Chapel and Chuck French beginning at 7:30 p.m.
All proceeds will go toward Edna’s surgery and medical bills.

IGA Round Up Breaks Record

The eighth annual Sullivan IGA Roundup set an all time record Nov. 3 through Nov. 9.
IGA customers rounded up their grocery purchases to the next dollar totaling $1543 plus change, according to IGA manager Pat Stinson
That record donation to the Moultrie County Food Pantry will help make Thanksgiving better for more than a hundred families.
“The devotion of Sullivan IGA to the community is illustrated by the generosity of customers whose contributions from 99 cents to a penny which added up to help so many,” volunteer Turk Rounder said.
The Moultrie County Food Pantry and the families they serve thank everyone at Sullivan IGA for Round Up week and First Community Bank of Sullivan for promoting the record breaking effort in 2019.

Greenhill Clean Up Extended

The Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan will be completing fall clean up the week of Dec. 1, 2019.
The flower arrangement clean up is limited to season displays and excludes saddles, shepherd’s hooks and vase arrangements.
Those wanting to retrieve seasonal flower arrangements are encouraged to do so prior to Dec. 1.
Weather permitting after December 7 cemetery employees will clear remaining special arrangements from Greenhill Cemetery.

Remove Flowers from Greenhill

Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan will be completing fall clean up the week of Nov. 24, 2019.
Those who still have flower arrangements at grave sites should pick them up prior to the week of Thanksgiving if they wish to save them.
After Nov. 23 cemetery employees will clear remaining arrangements from Greenhill Cemetery.

Spring concert

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
