Remove Flowers from Greenhill

Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan will be completing fall clean up the week of Nov. 24, 2019.
Those who still have flower arrangements at grave sites should pick them up prior to the week of Thanksgiving if they wish to save them.
After Nov. 23 cemetery employees will clear remaining arrangements from Greenhill Cemetery.

First Community Open House

First Community Bank of Moultrie County has completed renovations in Sullivan and invites the public to an open house from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.
Join everyone at the main branch located at one South Main in Sullivan, to view the newly renovated facility while enjoying drinks and snacks.
Door prizes offered during the open house celebration include: a wheeled Yeti cooler, two Illini basketball tickets (Sat. game great seats), and floral arrangements.

Scouting for Food Nov. 16

Boy Scout Troop 39 and Cub Scout Pack 39 will be holding their annual “Scouting for Food” food drive on Saturday, November 16, to benefit the Moultrie County Food Pantry.
Sullivan residents are asked to place nonperishable food items or paper products in grocery bags at their front door or porch by 9:00 a.m. on November 16 for pick up. Please make sure the items are visible from the road.

Lovington Post 429 Offers Flags

The Lovington Sons of the American Legion place flags the outside entrances of local cemeteries to honor all veterans for Veterans Day Monday, November 11.
Flags for individual headstones are available for loan at the Lovington American Legion Post 429. The Legion is open Monday through Saturday at noon and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Cemeteries decorated for Veterans Day include Hewitt, St. Isidore, Turner, Miller and Keller.

Sulllivan Schools Honor Veterans

Sullivan High School’s Veterans Day program is in the high school gym at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11.
Veterans are asked to arrive by 9:45 for a group photo. A lunch will be provided after the assembly in the high school media center.
The Career English class is in charge of arrangements.
Veterans and their guests who plan to attend the lunch are encouraged to RSVP by Nov. 7 to Miss Lawson at lawsonr@sullivan.k12.il.us or 728-8311 ext. 1274.

Eats Before Treats

Halloween is a busy night so from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Oct. 31 the Lovington campus of Maranatha Assembly of God is offering eats before treats.
Free food is offered at the 228 N. Broadway St. and all the family has to do is drive thru.
They are serving hot dogs, chips, a drink and a treat, and it’s all free.

Safe Trick or Treat Times

Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development safe trick-or-treat and the AmBuC’s Halloween parade are in Sullivan Thursday, October 31.
Safe Trick or Treating at a host of businesses in and around the square is from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
At 6:00 p.m. costumed characters are invited to parade around the Sullivan square during the annual AmBuCs Halloween Parade.
Join the fun for great prizes and plenty of Halloween treats.
Trick or Treat in Bethany has been set for October 31st from 6:00-9:00 p.m.

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
