City Wide Power Outage

The City of Sullivan Electric Department will perform a city-wide outage, weather permitting, starting at midnight Saturday, October 26, 2019 for upgrades to the substation. The outage is estimated to last approximately 4 hours or until the project is completed.
Residents are welcome to sign up for E-Notify on the City of Sullivan website to receive future notifications from the City.

Oktoberfest Cometh

Oktoberfest is returning to the Sullivan square beginning with the 6:00 p.m. Friday Oct. 18th parade.
On Friday Artoberfest and Kids Corner opens with Inflatables and bumper cars.
Entertaining are The Northenders at the main stage beginning at 6:30 followed by the Feudin Hillibillies in the beer tent at 8:00p.m.
Saturday the 19th opens with the Sullivan Fire District Pancake and Sausage Breakfast from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m.
The SMS Interact 5K starts at 9:00 a.m. with Greg Ridenhour providing Gospel Music on the main state at 12:30 p.m.
The chili cook off starts at high noon with judging from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wine tasting at 5 West Lounge is noon to 9:00 p.m.
The Sullivan FFA pedal tractor pull is at 2:00 p.m.
Drew Cagle is on the main stage at 6:00 p.m. with Page Mackenzie performing in the beer tent at 8:00 p.m.
Artoberfest and Chili Cookoff winners are announced at 7:30 p.m. This annual event is organized by Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development.

SHS Alumni Gather for HC

The Sullivan Alumni Association has worked with the awards committee to make the October 5, 2019 banquet at Building 1225 in Sullivan a special night.
The recipients of the “Hall of Fame and the Who’s Who” awards include special recognitions by alumni in honor of this 90th anniversary milestone.
The class of 1969 will be celebrating their 50th anniversary, and the class of 1959 will be marking their 60th at the banquet. Everyone attending will be sharing memories and greeting old friends again. There will be a catered dinner, and the dinner will be served to the attendees at the tables.
All Sullivan alumni are invited to come and join the celebration. Tickets are available at Bkirk25@Hotmail.com.

Domestic Violence Awareness

Moultrie County Candlelighting Ceremony is Tuesday, October 29, 7:00 p.m.at the United Methodist Church 216 W. Jefferson, Sullivan.
The ceremony is in conjunction with October as Domestic Violence Awareness month.
“In October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed.
That same year marks the initiation of the first national domestic violence toll-free hotline.   In 1989 the U.S.Congress passed Public Law 101-112 designating October of that year as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Such legislation has passed every year since with NCADV providing key leadership in this effort.”

During this month of observance, each of the counties in Dove’s service area will have a local Candlelighting Ceremony to mourn victims, celebrate survivors, and commend those who join us to take a stand against this crime.

Drive to Help Christ’s Pantry

Lovington area residents are given a chance to participate in a food drive on Saturday, October 5.
The Food and Cash Drive benefits Christ’s Pantry and will be held in the middle of Lovington from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 5.
Food and monetary donations may be taken to the Lovington American Legion prior to the event. Hours are from Mon-Sat. and at 1:00 p.m. Sundays.
Donations may also be mailed to Christ’s Pantry c/o Sparrows at P.O. Box 742, Lovington, IL 61937.

Decades is SHS HC Theme

Sullivan High School Student Council picked Decade’s as the theme for this years Homecoming.
Each class has picked a different decade for their float and window decorating.
The Homecoming Parade will kick-off at 4:00 pm from the high school parking lot.
The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Victory Field against Tuscola.
On Saturday, October 5 coronation of the King & Queen will take place at 7:15.

OBOS Seeks Feedback

One Book One Sullivan had a busy summer reading from the 2020 Rebecca Caudill List.
Students and teachers met weekly to read and discuss books from the list. The group narrowed the list of 20 titles down to four books shortly before school began.
They are always eager to choose a book both the students and community will love.
Feel free to read the following selections and offer some feedback to the group by emailing Rikki Ray @ rayr@sullivan.k12.il.us. The big reveal of the chosen book will happen on Tuesday, November 26th at the Sullivan Middle School.

Triple Dog Dare Challenge

Big D’s and Big D’s Catering is issuing a Triple Dog Dare Challenge during the Sullivan OctoberFest.
Beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct 19 on the mainstage ten Big D owner Dennis Ozier challenges anyone with appetite enough to consume three Moultrie Monsters with chili/cheese and three cans of soda in 15 minutes.
Each participant will receive a free T-shirt and if you succeed in the challenge the entry fee will be refunded.
Must be 18 to enter with $100 first prize; $50 for second and $25 for third.

BFD Ghost Rally Has the Clues

The Bethany Fire Dept. Ghost Rally begins in the Okaw High School gym Saturday, October 12.
Line up is at 4:00 p.m. with the rally beginning at dusk.
Come one, come all for a night full of spooky fun and adventure!
Jump into your cars with friends and family collecting all the clues to solve the mystery along the backroads of Bethany.
There are raffle drawings and concessions adding to the fun with all proceeds going to the Bethany Fire District. Find the event on Facebook or call 217/259-9953 for more information.

Mobile Mammography At Beacon

Sarah Bush Lincoln’s Mobile Mammography Services will be hitting the road at area county health departments and banks in October.
The van will be at Moultrie County Beacon, Sullivan on October 21.
To make an appointment for a mammogram on the mobile van at a location near you, call 1-800-639-5929.
The Mobile Mammography van helps provide mammograms to women who may not otherwise have access to, or be able to afford these life-saving preventive screens. Women who qualify will receive their mammogram free.

Spring concert

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
