An incorrect name for the groom was used in the cutline for the photo in the July 10 edition of the News Progress. The News Progress regrets this error and extends our apologies.

Lions Offer Free Eye Screenings

The Sullivan Lions Club and the Lions of Illinois Foundation are offering free retinal screenings from 9-11 a.m. Friday, July 19 at the Sullivan IGA parking lot.
The quality of life for people with retinal disorders such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy is dramatically impacted.
Since early detection of such disorders is critical, persons 55 or older are encouraged to take advantage of this free eye screening.
Persons wishing to join the Lions on their fight against the effects of vision and hearing loss should contact the Sullivan Lions Club president Verna Tice at 217-620-9610 or email at vlmtice@yahoo.com. Steam Threshing Parade of Power

The third annual Steam Threshing event is from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3 at the Illinois Amish Center.
New for this year will be a “Parade of Power” to be held at 6 p.m. Friday and at noon on Saturday.
The parade will feature horse and tractor power with descriptions presented over the sound system.
The Illinois Amish Center is located on Rte 133 three miles east of Arthur.

Fields-Wright Open House

Fields-Wright Medical Facility is having a business after hours and open house at the 2 W. Adams location in Sullivan from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25.
HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital has responded to requests from Sullivan area patients with renovations. Guided tours of the facility are available where the public may meet providers and view the renovated Cardiac Rehab and Outpatient Physical Therapy Center.

VBS at Dalton City Methodist

Vacation Bible School will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 22 thru Thursday, July 25 in Dalton City United Methodist Church located at 200 E. Freeland St.
Dinner is served at 6 p.m. Free to all children and youth. No advance registration is necessary.

City Wide Clean Up Saturday

Sullivan residents wishing to participate in City Wide Clean Up Day must have their items on the curb by 7 a.m. Saturday.
All residents who live north of Harrison Street will be picked up on Saturday, July 13, including all those on Pifers Lane.
All residents who live south of Harrison Street will be picked up beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 20.

All Wheel Extravaganza

The ninth annual Dalton City All Wheel Extravaganza is from noon-5 p.m. Sunday, July 21.
Cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors will be on display in downtown Dalton City with goody bags provided to the first 75. Participant choice trophies will be presented and top five and best of show awards presented.
Food and entertainment, silent auction, door prizes, 50/50 drawing and more are included.

Hope Chest Free Supplies

The grand opening of The Hope Chest at Sullivan Southern Baptist Church is from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, July 13.
In an effort to help students of Sullivan Community School District #300 buy school supplies they are offering free basic school supplies to those who need help.

The Villa Grove Car Show

The Villa Grove car show is Saturday, August 3 at Harrison Park.
Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon with the show from 12-4 p.m.
A 50/50 and grill raffle will held to benefit Mission 22.
Free t-shirts for the first 25 who registered and a free BBQ lunch for all entrants are included.
Specialty awards ace for best paint, best interior, veterans choice, farthest traveled, sponsor’s choice, club participation and Best of Show.

Titus Manor Auction Items

Personal property from the recently closed Titus Manor in Sullivan will be sold at public auction Saturday, July 13 at American Legion Post #68.
Several antiques and furnishings are being offered of which many have been in storage since owner Winnifred Titus’s death 59 years ago. Westfork Auction and Real Estate, LLC auctioneers Bob Lamendolla and John Miller are conducting the sale which begins at 9 a.m.

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
