How Moultrie CodeRed Works

News Progress Posted on July 3, 2019 by webmasterJuly 3, 2019

•July 3, 2019•

Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Director Jan Haegen explained how the Moultrie County CodeRed weather warnings work and why some people in Sullivan were alerted and some were not during recent weather threats.
The National Weather Service decides where weather is a problem and makes what they call a Weather Box. This is the same box seen on TV weather reports. They send out a report the same time they give it to the news stations. Moultrie County CodeRed then sends out a call to everyone inside “the Weather Box” who has signed up to CodeRed.
“On Wednesday June 19, the weather box split a line between north and south Sullivan,” Haegen explained. “That is why some people in Sullivan got calls and others did not. We do not send out a general warning for the county so we do not sound like the little boy who cried wolf.”
If you get a call from CodeRed, please take it seriously, you are in “the Weather Box”.

State’s Attorney Announces Candidacy

News Progress Posted on June 26, 2019 by webmasterJune 26, 2019

•June 26, 2019•
Last year the County Board appointed me to be Moultrie County’s State’s Attorney. It was an honor and a privilege to be asked to serve.
Having now served you, the citizens of Moultrie County, in that position, I, Tracy Weaver, hereby announce my candidacy for the upcoming election.
These are challenging times as we are seeing a rise in the importation of illegal drugs across central Illinois along with the other crimes that so often go hand in hand with those offenses. My legal career began 13 years ago. In that time, I have prosecuted wrongdoers, defended the rights of accused, served those in need, and managed a nonprofit agency that works with children. My background is diverse and well-suited for an office that aids the county in many areas, not just prosecution, and with that background, I am ready to meet the challenges we face.
I previously served as a special prosecutor for the Illinois Appellate Prosecutor’s Office, working with the East Central Illinois Task Force in rooting out the drug trade in a multi-county area. While the legislature may see fit to decriminalize some drugs, what remains illegal will not be tolerated in our county, and I will continue to work with our dedicated members of law enforcement to ensure we deter future criminality, striving to keep our citizens safe.
It is important to remember that innocent people are too often touched by crime. My approach to prosecution always bears in mind victims and those who have been impacted by the wrongdoing of others. The unfortunate reality is that too often this involves children in our communities.
Prior to joining the Moultrie County State’s Attorney’s Office at the start of 2017, I worked for six years for Illinois CASA, an agency that advocates on behalf of children involved in abuse and neglect proceedings in 45 Illinois counties, ultimately serving as the director at the state level.
Serving as a state’s attorney is not just about prosecuting crime; it is also about working with our agencies to see that children are protected and that families get the services they sometimes need for children to be able to thrive.
I also serve as an instructor at the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center in Decatur, assisting with the training of newly hired law enforcement and corrections officers from across Illinois.
As a prosecutor, I seek justice, but as a public servant and resident of Moultrie County, I, like you, strive to see us flourish. I have been actively involved in the Moultrie County Republican Central Committee, the Moultrie County Republican Women, the Moultrie County Bar Association, Sullivan Woman’s Civic Club, the Rotary Club of Sullivan, and 100 Women Who Care of Sullivan.
It has been a tremendous honor to have served the citizens of Moultrie County as our state’s attorney, and each day, I am thankful for this opportunity to work with our outstanding law enforcement officers and agencies, our dedicated public servants and office holders, and our friends and neighbors. So it is with great enthusiasm, but also great humility that I announce my candidacy for Moultrie County State’s Attorney in the 2020 election and ask for your vote.

New Voter ID Cards Mailed

News Progress Posted on June 19, 2019 by webmasterJune 19, 2019

•June 19, 2019•
Registered voters in Moultrie County will be receiving new Voter Identification Cards within the next week. As required by law, the County Clerk’s office is in the process of completing a purge of Moultrie County voters. County Clerk Georgia England explained that a purge is done to help maintain voter registrations by keeping them current and up-to-date and to eliminate voters who are deceased or have moved from Moultrie County.
England urges voters to check their voter card and familiarize themselves with their districts and polling location. Voters should sign the new card and destroy the old card.
England is asking for voters’ assistance in returning Voter Identification Cards that were delivered to individuals who no longer live at the address where the card was delivered. Should a household receive a Voter ID card for a member of their family or for an individual who once resided at that address, but no longer does, mark on the Voter Identification card “NOT AT THIS ADDRESS” and return the card to the Clerk’s office. If the address where the individual has moved to is known, place that on the card too. Place the card in the mail to be returned to the County Clerk’s office. No additional postage is required. It is important that these cards be returned to the clerk’s office and not just destroyed, nor should they be given to the person listed on the card who does not live in that household. If the addressee on the card is deceased, notify the county clerk’s office in writing. The sole purpose of a purge is to have correct voter data for the election process.
Also, if an individual’s address has been changed by municipality or post office action, inform the county clerk’s office of said changes. England says that if a person had a rural route box number that was changed by 9-1-1 addressing but their new voter card reflects an incorrect address, her office needs to be informed.
Registered voters who did not receive a voter’s card by July 3 should notify the county clerk’s office at 728-4389.
England would like to reiterate the importance to change voter registration information whenever a person changes their name or moves, even if the move is across the street. If the address or name change is not made in a timely fashion before an election is held, the voter may be prohibited from voting a full ballot at the polls or may be required to Grace Period Register and Vote at the county clerk’s office.
The next election will be the General Primary March 17, 2020. If an individual is not registered to vote, now is the time to do so. Registration may be done in the county clerk’s office, with precinct committeemen, and at all Moultrie County libraries. For information regarding registration qualifications call the county clerk’s office or visit their website at: moultriecountyil.com
