The Mass Series at St. Columcille

A six week DVD series on The Mass by Bishop Robert Barron will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27 at St. Columcille in the Parish Hall, Sullivan and run for six weeks.

Two candidates for Sullivan city commissioner will hold an open meeting Sunday, March 31.
From 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Streets and Public Improvements Commissioner candidate Peggy Hargis and Public Health and Safety Commissioner candidate Grant Wade will meet and talk about Sullivan issues at 1520 S. Patterson Rd. in Sullivan.
Both candidates encourage the public to join them for snacks and a chat before the Tuesday, April 2 elections.

Cancer Benefit in Lovington

The First Christian Church of Lovington is having a benefit for Lisa Clark, church secretary, who has been battling cancer for several months.
The benefit is to help the family with medical expenses.
The public is invited to attend the Sunday, March 31 meal from noon–2 p.m. A variety of soups, sandwiches, hot dogs and desserts is being served for a donation.
Gift baskets, gift certificates and other items will be available for a silent auction.
To donate an item for the silent auction or to make a monetary donation, call Jane Franklin at 217-873-4763.

Certified Food Class Offered

The Moultrie County Health Department is sponsoring a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 at the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Department located at 1505 W. Hagerman St. in Sullivan. Seating is limited so those interested should sign up now. The class will provide certification for food service managers.
Preregistration is required. To sign up for this certification call 1-800-705-8204 or visit www.ctcfoodsanitation.com. For questions or to send a registration form you may also email Tisenburg@ctcfood.net.
The state of Illinois requires food service establishments to have at least one certified Food Protection Manager on the premises at all times food is being prepared. Food service Managers are required to complete an approved eight-hour training course and pass ANSI-CFM approved Certified Food Protection Manager exam. This exam is in included in the current course, and the certification is valid anywhere in the United States.

Greenhill Cemetery Clean up Begins

Starting the week of March 24 the city of Sullivan is requesting anyone with wreathes or grave blankets at Greenhill Cemetery to please remove them if you would like them saved.
Starting that week city employees will be clearing the cemetery of grave blankets, wreaths and other obstruction in preparation for the mowing season.

OVHS Hosts Open House

Okaw Valley CUSD #302 is hosting an open house for the public to view the newly constructed agricultural complex, science labs and sports complex.
The event is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at the facilities on the Okaw Valley High School campus.

Haystack Supper and Auction

The 17th annual benefit auction and Haystack Supper is Friday, March 15 at the Otto Center south of Arthur.
The Haystack Supper is from 4-8 p.m with the auction beginning at 6 p.m.
In addition ice cream, soft pretzels and popcorn will be available as well as bake sale items and books.
Auction items will include furniture, quilts, tools, crafts, new items and gift certificates. Those interested in making donations may contact Lewis Otto 217-962-0596; Loyd Gingerich 217-273-0751 or Wayne Schrock 217-620-4267.
The event is sponsored by the Gospel Echoes Team Prison Ministry with proceeds going toward prison Bible studies.

Battle of the Badges

The Sullivan Police and Fire Department personnel will be facing each other in the Battle of the Badges, Thursday, March 14 at Sullivan High School.
Beginning at 6 p.m. the two basketball teams will be performing at 110% on behalf of the Sullivan Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.
Admission is free, but donations are welcome. In addition to the game a hot dog dinner is available at 5 p.m. One dollar for half court shots and 50/50 tickets will be sold.

Scholarship For Educators

The Alpha Phi Chapter off Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization of women educators, is offering a $500 scholarship.
An applicant must be a junior or senior in college or a graduate student in the field of education.
Applications may be picked up at the Sullivan Middle School, 713 N. Main St. in Sullivan.
Questions concerning the application may be directed to Ellen Feeler at 217-259-4722. The deadline for the application is April 27, 2019.

Meet the Candidate Night

The Arthur Education Association and the Arthur Area Association of Commerce will host a “Meet the Candidate” night for those running for the village board and school board.
The purpose of this event is to help voters get to know the candidates. It is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m.Thursday, March 21 at the Arthur Community Center located at 120 E. Progress Street.
Each candidate will introduce themselves and share why they are running for their respective boards. The public will have the opportunity to turn in school board candidate questions only the night of the forum with a designated time limit for answers. The event will be moderated by Jim Fleming and will be streamed live on TheRoundTop.tv.

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
