SHS Hosts Veterans

Sullivan High School’s Career English Class will hold a Veterans Day assembly at 10:15 a.m. Monday, November 12 in the high school gym.
All veterans and current members of the military are invited to attend and stay afterwards for lunch.
A group photo will be taken before the ceremony, and veterans are asked to arrive by 10 a.m. to get checked in and be in the photo.
The Sullivan High School band and the Sullivan Singers will perform several musical numbers, and several guest speakers will share their thoughts and stories.

Sparrow’s Auction

The Sparrow’s Unlimited Christmas auction is Dec. 1, and the Lovington-based non-for profit is asking local businesses help provide Christmas for the less fortunate.
Last year the auction’s success due to the generosity of businesses and individuals enabled Sparrow’s to provide Christmas to 170 children (coats, hats, gloves, boots, clothing and toys) as well as 20 mentally challenged people. Sparrow’s also delivered 125 fruit baskets to the elderly for Thanksgiving.
Sparrow’s Unlimited is a non for profit with 501C3 exemption status. A receipt is available upon request with the a Tax Exempt ID.
Sparrow’s primary mission to benefit families in need at Christmas is their primary focus; however, the group has evolved into a resource and support system for organizations such as Christ’s Pantry, Lovington American Legion Post #429, COLA, Boy Scouts and school organizations.

Vineyard Church Hosts Awards

Everyone is invited to the Vineyard Church in Sullivan Saturday, November 3 for the American Cancer Society North Central Region Awards Banquet.
Dinner served by Terry Warren Catering begins at 5 p.m. with the Awards Ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m.
Roast beef or chicken, au gratin potatoes, green bean, tossed salad, dessert, iced tea, water, lemonade and coffee will be served.

Trick or Treat Oct. 31st

In Sullivan Wednesday, October 31 starts off with Safe Trick or Treating at marked locations from 4-6 p.m.
The Sullivan AmBucs costume judging parade kicks off at 6:15 p.m. from the Sullivan square. Costumed participants will be judged during the march around the square with prizes awarded in various categories.
Trick or Treating townwide is from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 31 in Sullivan.
Bethany town wide trick or treating is from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Weds., Oct. 31.
Lovington Park Board Halloween judging contest is Oct. 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with trick or treating set for Oct. 31.

Dove Candlelighting

Dove invites you to join them for their 18th Annual Candlelighting Ceremony, “From Darkness to Light”.
It will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25 in the First United Methodist Church, Sullivan.
At this service, participants will mourn those who have suffered and died through domestic violence and celebrate with the survivors and those working to end the abuse. The ceremony which takes place in October as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 25 in the First United Methodist Church located at 216 W. Jefferson in Sullivan.
The service will include remarks from coordinator Mary Hughes, music, and the lighting of the candles.

First Baptist Trunk Or Treat

First Baptist Church in Sullivan will have a Trunk or Treat party in front of the church from 4–6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31
Pack your car or truck trunk with “goodies” and enjoy the party. The church will provide free hot chocolate outside the west door.
The public is cordially invited to attend, and don’t forget to bring the children.

Secret Santa Sign Up Time

Sign up for Operation Secret Santa begins Thursday, Nov. 1 and continues through the Wednesday, Nov. 21 deadline.
Individuals may sign up at the Sullivan Police Dept. from 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

New Date for Equipment Test

Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England reported the public test of the Unisyn Optical Scan and Touch Screen tabulating equipment to be used for the November 6 General Election has been rescheduled to 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 29 in the Elections Counting Center Room on the first floor of the Moultrie County Courthouse. in Sullivan.
The test is open to candidates, representatives of political parties, the press and the public.
Public testing of equipment was originally set for Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Sullivan Kid’s Boo Bash

Sullivan Dance Studio’s Competition Dance Team is hosting a “Kid’s BOO BASH” on Friday, October 26 from 6-8 p.m. Students only in grades Kindergarten through 4th Grade from area schools are invited to attend.
Our “Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party” will help raise funds for our dancer’s competition and costume fees.
