Homecoming Chili Supper

The annual Sullivan Women’s Club Homecoming Chili Supper is from 4:30 -7 p.m. Friday, October 5 at the Sullivan American Legion Post #68.
Everyone is invited to attend this annual homecoming event. On the menu are chili, potato soup, hot dogs, desserts, drinks and more.
All proceeds go to the Sullivan Women’s Club SHS Scholarship.

Haunted Tram at Mason Point

Mason Point is hosting the annual haunted tram rides at 8-9 p.m.October 12 and 13.
Tram rides start from the front of the One Masonic Way building in Sullivan. Visitors should stay left when pulling into Mason Point, following the route to the administration building where staff will be available.
Tram rides are for all ages with proceeds going to benefit the activity department at Mason Point. Hot chocolate and hot cider will be available for everyone.

Nohren House Blessing Sat.

Saturday, October 13, 11 a.m. is the house blessing by the Sullivan Area Ministerial Association for Matt and Nikki Nohren and their children, Hayden and Whitney. The address is 919 W. Strain St., Sullivan.
Last year on October 25, 2017 their rental home was completely destroyed by fire.

Harvest Field Market

Buxton’s Garden Farm is hosting the second annual Harvest Field Market Saturday, September 29.
The event is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with more than 50 venders participating. Visitors can enjoy antiques, crafts, home decor, shopping, food, pumpkins, kid activities and more.
Established in 1988 Buxton’s Garden Farm is located three miles west of Sullivan on Hwy. 121.

Correction

On the front page News Progress article: New Website for Moultrie County - the full time county employee salary increase by $1500 per year noted that the increase was requested by all county offices with the exception of the supervisor of assessments who requested no increases for her employees.
That is incorrect. The supervisor of assessments requested an increase in staff pay, but it was based on performance and a percentage increase of current pay.

Cookout Helps Construction

A cookout to raise funds to replace a room in the future home of Matt and Nikki Nohren and family will be held 10:00 a.m-2:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 on the Sullivan IGA parking lot.
The menu includes brats, pork chops and ribeye sandwiches.
The cookout is sponsored by Sullivan Area Ministerial Association.

Lovington Petitions Available

Residents of the village of Lovington wishing to become candidates for municipal office in the April 2, 2019, election may pick up their candidate petition sheets beginning immediately.
Offices up for election are three Village Trustee positions.
Petitions are to be picked up at the Village Office, located at 222 S Railroad Street in Lovington.
Office hours are 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The filing period for petitions is December 10-17, 2018. On the final day of the filing period, December 17 petitions will be accepted until 5 p.m.
To qualify as a candidate, you must be a registered voter, must not have been convicted of a felony crime in any court located in the United States and meet the one-year residency requirement prior to the election date of April 2, 2019.

SHS Decorates Windows for Homecoming

Sullivan High School artists are taking to the streets decorating windows for Homecoming Week beginning Monday, Oct. 1.
Window decorating voting will be open Oct 1-Oct 5 and the ballot will be at Cathrine’s on the square. There will be two award categories: best class window and best group window. Everyone may vote.

First Mid Bank Cookout Time

The First Mid Bank and Trust in Sullivan’s annual customer appreciation cookout is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, September 28.
The northeast parking lot is open for free lunch of pork burgers, chips, cookie and a drink. While enjoying lunch on First Mid register for a chance to win a door prize.

Packets Ready for City Election

Prospective candidates for the office of mayor and four commissioners for the Sullivan City Council may now pick up an information packet at the Sullivan City Building, 2 W Harrison St in Sullivan 8 a.m-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The filing date will be December 10 through December 17 for placement on the ballot of the Consolidated Election to be held April 2, 2019.

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
