Frontiersmen Host Historic Arms Show

The Prairieland Frontiersman is holding the 29th annual Historic Arts and Craft Show at the Sullivan American Legion March 9 and 10.

Hours for the two day event are 1-6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Traders may set up Friday morning.

This event is for traders and artisans of the Colonial, Fur Trade, Civil War and Indian War eras offering pre 1898 guns, knives, accoutrements or replicas.

Security is provided, and more than 60 tables are available for those who reserve early. Call Steve Wood at 217-728-7369 days for more information.

February 14 is National Donor Day, an annual reminder that organ donation is a life saver.

More than 118,000 people in the United States are waiting for organs, and every 10 minutes, someone is added to the national transplant waiting list, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing.

Average people can make a big difference, simply by adding their names to The National Donate Life Registry. Indeed, one organ donor can save up to eight lives. You can register to become a donor at the DMV when applying for a driver’s license or by visiting registerme.org.

SBL Lincolnland Home Care and Lincolnland Hospice will conduct a free blood pressure clinic from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Senior Center, Sullivan. For more information, call Lincolnland Home Care at 1-800-879-3212.

SBL Lincolnland Home Care, Lincolnland Hospice and Lincolnland Home Medical will sponsor bingo from 9 – 10 a.m. following the blood pressure clinic.

Please note: If the schools are closed due to adverse weather, the senior center will also be closed.

Sec. of State Holiday Closings

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced that all offices and facilities regularly open Monday through Friday will be closed Monday, Feb. 12 and 19, while facilities with operating days of Tuesday through Saturday will be closed on Saturday, Feb. 10 and 17, in observance of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday and Presidents’ Day.

All Monday through Friday Driver Services facilities will be open for business on Tuesday, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20, and all Tuesday through Saturday facilities will open Tuesday, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20.

To locate the nearest Driver Services facility and the hours of operation, please visit the Secretary of State’s website, www.cyberdriveillinois.com. Individuals can also change an address, register to become an organ/tissue donor or renew license plate stickers online.

Grievance Filed Against Regional Supt. Candidate

The Tuscola Education Association filed a harassment and unprofessional conduct grievance against Regional Supt. of Schools candidate Mike Smith. During National Honor Society selection at Tuscola High School two NHA sponsors felt intimidated and their jobs threatened by Smith.

Smith appeared before the Sullivan School Board recently to promote his candidacy for regional supt. of schools.

Habitat Seeks Candidates

Moultrie County Habitat for Humanity is seeking candidates for the new Habitat for Humanity home.

Anyone interested in a helping hand up in Moultrie County may pick up applications at ReStore, Rte. 32 south in Sullivan or the Moultrie County Habitat for Humanity office at 8 South Washington St. Ste. 102 in Sullivan.

DON Named at Mason Point

Trevor Storm has been named Director of Nursing at Mason Point in Sullivan.

Trevor was born and raised in Shelbyville and currently resides there with his wife Jennifer and their three children Alivia, 7, Byren, 5 and their newest addition Easton who was born in November.

Storm graduated from Shelbyville High School and then went on to complete the LPN and ADN programs at Lake Land College obtaining his registered nurse license in 2010. He was previously employed at Mason Point holding the titles of staff nurse, wound nurse, charge nurse and Assistant Director of Nursing during his time there. He most recently was employed as a nephrology nurse at a dialysis clinic.

An avid fan of the Illini, St. Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings has led him to be involved in volunteering for the Upwards basketball program, serving as the commissioner of the youth T-ball and as the Booster Foundation President in his hometown of Shelbyville.

Storm says that he “is very excited to return to Mason Point where I have spent a great deal of my nursing career and work alongside the IDT and staff to provide excellent care and services to our residents and families.”

Mobile Sec. of State Office

On Feb. 22 the Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with Sullivan Library, is offering drivers a chance to renew their driver’s license or vehicle registration renewal sticker, obtain a duplicate or corrected license, or obtain an Illinois identification card. White’s mobile unit will be available at the Sullivan Library, located at 2 West Water in Sullivan 10 a.m.-2 p.m. February 22.
