County Loses Free Pet Food

News Progress Posted on May 10, 2017 by webmasterMay 9, 2017

•May 10, 2017•

Free pet food for Moultrie County Animal Control may be a perk of the past the public health safety and welfare committee learned last week.

Rick Matthews, building and grounds supervisor over animal control, reported that providers of free pet food and treats at the Moultrie County Animal Shelter changed the rules for getting the annual estimated $3000 food donation.

Matthews said the free food service that started with Kal Kan, then transferred to Mars Petcare is a service of which the county is very appreciative. KalKan and Mars Petcare donated food free of charge to the Moultrie County Animal Shelter since it opened.

That donation amounted to from two to three pallets of food per year. The county was able to pick up the food directly from the Mars Petcare Mattoon facility. Read More

•May 3, 2017•

The American Red Cross and  Sullivan Legion Post 68 will host a blood drive  noon-6 p.m. Tuesday, May 9 at the American Legion.

Blood supplies are at a critical low level right now so every donation is important.

For every unit donated a possible three people can be helped. Those coming in and donating (or attempt to donate) will receive a chance for one of three $1000 gift cards.

Walk-ins are welcome, but having an appointment ensures proper Red Cross staffing and decreases wait time.

Call Jeri Davis at 273 9456 for an appointment or go to redcrossblood.org to make an appointment.

News Progress Posted on April 26, 2017 by webmasterApril 25, 2017

•April 26, 2017•

The Lovington Fireworks Committee will add lots of sparkle to the Community Club’s annual fish fry.

Hunter Kamm, who wowed onlookers with his fireworks display last summer, suggested the two groups join forces for a special evening of food, entertainment and fireworks Friday, June 16.

”It’s early, I know,” Kamm said, “but it would draw a better crowd, I believe, being on the same day as the fish fry.”

Community Club members agreed.

The fish fry starts at 4:30 p.m., offering food and entertainment in Tom Conn Park until 7 p.m.

The entertainment will continue at the field north of Lovington Grade School until the sparks start flying after sundown.

Anyone wishing to help with the fish fry for an hour or two may contact Carol Smith or James Caudle.
