Mo Do County Fair Pageants

Anyone who wishes to participate in the Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageants to be held in July should contact Sandy Hoke, Pageant Director at 493.3583 by Thursday, June 8 for Miss and Junior Miss. Ages for Miss are 16-21 and Junior Miss 11-14.

The new Miss Moultrie-Douglas will receive a $2000 Scholarship.

Sullivan Lions Celebrate

Lions District Governor Moe Wimbly attended the May 9 Sullivan Lions meeting to award milestones to several members.

John Ruscin has been a member of Sullivan Lions for 66 years. Lynn Reed and Dave Reed have both been Lions members for 40 years.

Jess Barker and Nick Voegel are Centennial Members as they joined Lions last year during Lions International’s 100th Anniversary.

Sullivan Lions is a chapter of Lions International, a service organization which stresses vision and hearing services as well as several local projects.

All-American Cookout

Eastview Terrace in Sullivan is hold the All-American Cookout at 12 noon Friday, May 19.

As National Nursing Home Week comes to an end everyone is invited to enjoy a cook out and great music from The Rauch Band.

Come to 100 Eastview Place in Sullivan and noon and bring a lawn chair, for a great a hot dog, potato salad, baked beans and apple pie for dessert.

Healthcom Holds 5K event

Healthcom is increasing awareness for Senior Fitness Month by sponsoring an Active Every Day 5K Run/Walk for the benefit of Mid-Illinois Senior Services in Sullivan.

The staff of Healthcom Inc. is coordinating this fund-raising event, which kicks off at the Sullivan High School track/football field at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 10. Those registering early get a $10 discount plus a participant’s t-shirt and tote with gifts. Those 65 years and older race free and may purchase a shirt.

The 5K run or walk is through Wyman Park with the one mile fun run for seniors and children held on the school track.

Trophies are awarded the three top finishers in each class with all children receiving participation medals.

A bounce house is available for children following the race.

Mid-Illinois Senior Services is a non-profit agency serving Moultrie and Douglas counties offering support services free for area senior citizens.

Lowe 1 Precinct Poll Change

Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England has announced that Lowe 1 Precinct’s polling location will change effective with the March 20, 2018 General Primary Election.

The Precinct is now located at the Arthur Public Library, but will relocate to the Arthur Fire Department located at 323 W. Columbia St., Arthur. Voters will be receiving a new Voter Registration Card in the mail showing the new polling location the week of May 29th .

With all the additional equipment needed to comply with State and Federal laws regarding ADA compliancy, Lowe Precinct was in need of more space. Being able to spread out more will also accommodate the number of individuals voting more efficiently.

England stated, “We are very fortunate in Moultrie County to have organizations, churches, libraries, firehouses, village halls, etc. that are so willing to do whatever is necessary to help in the democratic process of elections. It’s been a pleasure working with the Arthur Library for many, many years, and I look forward to working with the Arthur Fire Protection District.”

Sullivan FFA Mother’s Day

The Sullivan High School FFA is holding a Mother’s Day greenhouse sale this Saturday, May 13, from 9 a.m.-noon in the SHS ag department greenhouse.

Everything from hanging baskets to planted pots to six packs of the buyer’s favorite flora and fauna is available with the proceeds helping the local FFA chapter.

Lake Shelbyville to host Pack the Park at Forest W. “Bo” Wood

To celebrate camping season, Lake Shelbyville, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will provide free camping during Pack the Park at Forest W. “Bo” Wood Campground May 11-13. Campsites will be available on a first come, first served basis Thursday through Saturday night. Paid camping will resume Sunday, May 14.

Campers may expect a full schedule of activities that the whole family can enjoy.

-Magician: The Great Boodini, Friday, May 12; 7-8:30 p.m. at the amphitheater

-Inflatable bounce houses Saturday, May 13; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. by the playground

-Canoe rides: Saturday, May 13; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. location TBD (info will be posted at fee booth)

-Wood carving/artisans, May 13; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. next to amphitheater

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
