Family Movie Night

Beginning at 6 p.m. the family is invited to enjoy a free movie with food and beverages also offered.

The Sullivan Church of God is located at 321 N. West St. in Sullivan.

Bethany Legion Poker Tourney

American Legion Post 507 in Bethany will host its 11th Poker Tournament Fundraiser Saturday, December 10.

The event will benefit students at Okaw Valley High School through academic scholarships awarded annually.

The Texas Hold’em poker tournament starts at noon and has limited seating so early registration is advised.

Holiday Parade is Saturday

Petersen Health Care is sponsoring the annual Hometown Holiday Parade which begins at noon Saturday, Dec. 3. Line up will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Sullivan High School.

A Santa’s Workshop will be hosted by DOVE 10 a.m-3 p.m. in the Sullivan American Legion. Activities include a silent auction, crafting tables and bake sale as well as photos with Santa before and after the parade. Food will be available for purchase.

Millikin’s 83rd Cookie Party

A long-standing tradition at Millikin University, the 83rd annual Cookie Party will be held for members of the University community on Wednesday, Dec. 7, from 2-4 p.m. in Lower Richards Treat University Center on Millikin’s campus.

The annual event is held every year as a highlight and celebration for the holiday season at Millikin, as well as give the students a “boost” before final exams are administered.

The party will showcase the baking talents of many in the university community, providing over 5,000 cookies for all to sample. The event also includes great holiday music provided by Millikin’s School of Music.

Santa Letters

The Sullivan News Progress is offering a chance to send letters to Santa.

Santa’s North Pole drop box will be placed in front of the Monroe Street office this week. Plans are to publish all letters received in the Wednesday, December 14 issue . Letters may also be sent to santa@newsprogress.com

Letters should be received no later than Friday, December 9.

Breakfast With Santa

The Lovington Park and Recreation Board Breakfast with Santa is 9-11 Saturday, December 17 at the First Church of God Family Life Center, 232 W., State St.

Cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, milk and orange juice will be served for children accompanied by an adult.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. local Lovington vendors will be offering last minute Christmas gifts.

Moultrie County Toys-for-Tots

Moultrie County Toys-for-Tots is providing toys to 300 children in Moultrie County this full year of operation, according to county coordinator Eric Kenney.

Kenney explained the program delivers 850 toys throughout the county, whichworks out to 2.8 toys per child.

Kenney explained Moultrie County Toys-for-Tots, which is sponsored by the U.S. Marine Reserves, is expanding to work with Sparrows, Inc. in Lovington this year. The Lovington organization provided 93 children ages 0-14 years.

Kenney and his volunteers will be delivering the toys to Sparrows in Lovington Dec. 9.

Helmeth receives Amtryke

River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
