Breakfast With Santa

The Lovington Park and Recreation Board Breakfast with Santa is 9-11 Saturday, December 17 at the First Church of God Family Life Center, 232 W., State St.
Cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, milk and orange juice will be served for children accompanied by an adult.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. local Lovington vendors will be offering last minute Christmas gifts.
Moultrie County Toys-for-Tots

Moultrie County Toys-for-Tots is providing toys to 300 children in Moultrie County this full year of operation, according to county coordinator Eric Kenney.
Kenney explained the program delivers 850 toys throughout the county, whichworks out to 2.8 toys per child.
Kenney explained Moultrie County Toys-for-Tots, which is sponsored by the U.S. Marine Reserves, is expanding to work with Sparrows, Inc. in Lovington this year. The Lovington organization provided 93 children ages 0-14 years.
Kenney and his volunteers will be delivering the toys to Sparrows in Lovington Dec. 9.

Council Plans To Appoint

The Sullivan City Council will appoint someone to fill the position of Commissioner of Streets & Public Improvements vacated by Ken Johnson through April 2017.
The position to serve for the unexpired term will be on the ballot for the Consolidated Election April 4, 2017. The person who wins that election will serve on the council until the next city council election in 2019.

Sullivan PTO Holiday Event

The Sullivan Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization is sponsoring a Holiday Vendor Event 9 a.m-2 p.m. Saturday, December 3 in the Masonic Temple in Sullivan.
This vendor fair will offer a variety of direct sales including Perfectly Posh, Longaberger, LuLa Roe, Matilda Jane, Thirty-One, Tupperware, and Younique. There will also be craft items such as hair bows, tutus, and doll clothes.
Each vendor will have items up for raffle and people are encouraged to purchase raffle tickets with the proceeds going to the PTO which helps with a variety of expenses for the students in Sullivan Elementary School.
Mobile Mammography Available

Sarah Bush Lincoln’s Mobile Mammography Services will be at the SBL Sullivan Clinic December 21.
The Mobile Mammography van helps provide mammograms to women who may not otherwise have access to, or be able to afford these life-saving preventive screens. Women who qualify will receive their mammogram free.
The mobile mammography van is available to all women regardless of their financial status. Women with insurance that covers their yearly mammogram are also welcome.
These mobile mammography services are made possible in Moultrie County in part with funds from the Peoria Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

Mo. Historical Society Annual Dinner

The Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society will hold their annual dinner meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 17 in Friendship Hall at Sullivan First United Methodist Church directly across from the Sullivan Fire Department.
Tickets may be purchased at The Heritage Center at 117 E. Harrison during open hours of noon to 3 p.m. Monday and Saturday afternoons or at Stone and Stone Law Office at 303 E. Harrison St. in Sullivan during business hours. The deadline for dinner reservations is Monday, November 14 during business hours.
The speaker for the evening will be Mark Sorensen of Decatur. He will present “The History of Staley Football: Starchmen to Chicago Bears”.
Focus of the history is how and why a central Illinois starch factory owner would create a national sports team and how the team became one of only two of the original National Football League franchises still in existence.
Sorensen is a former history teacher and is the official Macon County historian. He is also the former Assistant Director of the Illinois State Archives and a past president of the Illinois State Historical Society.
Dues for the coming year may also be paid at the dinner.
Santa Has Sullivan Workshop

Santa’s Workshop is coming to the Sullivan American Legion 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
Santa will be present for pictures and visits before and after the city parade.
The event is sponsored by Moultrie County CADV and Dove, Inc.
