How to Succeed Opens at Theatre

The Little Theatre production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying starts Wednesday, June 15 and runs through June 26.

Shows at the Sullivan theatre are 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesdays; 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturdays; 2 p.m. Sundays.

The production is based on the award winning 1960s Broadway musical hit about a man who climbs the corporate ladder to success with little skill and a lot of smooze.

Little Miss Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageants

Bethany Honors Vets

The 2016 Bethany Celebration is set for June 24 and 25.

American Legion Post 507 will  be honoring those who served the country with a display of pictures and memorabilia. Terry Muzzy is coordinating this event and may be reached at 412-0185 to contribute items or find out more information.

The Bethany United Methodist Church is sponsoring a baking contest Saturday, June 25 with the grand prize winner announced at 7 p.m. More information about categories and prizes is forthcoming.

Twenty Years of Relay for Life

Everyone is invited to  Wyman Park 10 a.m.-10 p.m. June 11 for the 20th anniversary of Relay for Life in Moultrie County.

Opening ceremony will began at 10 a.m.. Entertainment is planned, survivors’ laps , caregiver laps, bounce houses, dunk tank, frozen T-shirt contest, lip sync contest, karate demos and many more activities. Luminarias will begin at dusk.

Independence Day Raffle Tickets On Sale

The annual Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development Independence Day 50/50 raffle is approaching.

Tickets are on sale now at various locations for $1 each, which will give the holder a chance for the Jackpot, which will be announced at the end of the July 4th parade. Last year’s grand prize raffle winner won $5619.

SCED raffle tickets are on sale now at CF&H Insurance, E-K Petro Mart, Sullivan IGA, Sullivan Pharmacy, TnT Pizzeria, Triple B Do-It-Best, Cathrine’s Custom Framing and Oakwood Apothecary.

Transformer Fire at Theatre

The Sullivan fire department responded to a call in the rear parking lot of Little Theatre at 11:54 a.m. Thursday, June 2

A faulty electrical transformer prompted the call and was repaired by Sullivan utility workers that afternoon.

Firefighters at the scene assisted with a brief evacuation of the Little Theatre building and returned to the station at 12:11 p.m.

No fire damage was reported in the incident.

Baking Contest Returns to Bethany

The Bethany United Methodist Church is bringing the baking contest and auction back to the Bethany Celebration Saturday, June 25.

Area bakers are encouraged to get out their favorite recipes with prize winners auctioned at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 25.

Former Sullivan Educator Retires

Sullivan High School music teacher  from 1991-96 William Cole retired from Cloverdale Ind. Middle School after 37 years of teaching. He spent his career teaching music, choir, and band in Indiana and Illinois.

Cole arrived in Sullivan in 1991 from Richland High School in Olney. In 1996 Bill, his wife Janelle, son Alex and daughter Janessa moved to Cloverdale to be closer to family.

He spent the past 20 years in Cloverdale schools and was named Educator of the Year in 2016. Cards may be sent to him at 53 Logan Court, Cloverdale, IN 46120.

Cream of the Crop Photos

Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs encouraged young photographers to submit photos for the 2016 Cream of the Crop Photo Contest. The contest encourages young photographers to share their vision of agriculture in our state.

Cream of the Crop Photo Contest from Illinois students, ages 8-18. Top photographs will be chosen in three age-based categories: ages 8-10, 11-14 and 15-18. Each student is allowed to submit up to two photos by July 7, 2016.

Oak Grove Baptist Memorial Day

The Oak Grove Baptist Church on Wilborn Creek Road will hold their annual Memorial Day service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 5.

Veterans will be recognized and music will be provided by State of Grace.

Helmeth receives Amtryke

River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
