Weed Growth Problems

News Progress Posted on May 18, 2016 by webmasterMay 17, 2016

•May 18, 2016•

If you have weeds getting out of control now is the time to cut.

Recent rain and warm weather have caused a lot of growth in Sullivan.

Grass and weeds have enjoyed the weather and grown well—in some cases too well.

Police Chief John Love noted the department has gotten calls concerning properties with weed growth issues.

Sullivan’s nuisance ordinance requires village action toward property owners who aren’t making an effort to control weeds on their property. This could ultimately lead to the city placing a lien on the property and eventually taking it over.

Chief Love noted the properties where complaints have been filed are being followed up on.

Owners are encouraged to take pride in their property’s condition and be considerate of neighbors.

News Progress Posted on May 11, 2016 by webmasterMay 11, 2016

•May 11, 2016•

In a continuing effort to conserve resource dollars, Eastern Illinois University is once again closing selected buildings and offices from noon on Fridays until Monday mornings during the summer months.

The affected time period began Monday, May 9 and will end Friday, Aug. 12.

Building/office exceptions include, but may not be limited to, the president’s office, Booth Library, University Police, the Renewable Energy Center and the Office of Admissions, which plan to keep normal working hours.

All university offices must be open to the public between 8 a.m. and noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and between 8 a.m. and noon on Friday.

By ending the work week at noon on Fridays, the university may increase temperatures in all vacant offices and other work environments to allow energy savings for two and one-half days per week.

Employees will be required to work their regularly scheduled number of full-time hours during the four-and-a-half-day work week. Classes scheduled to meet on Friday afternoons and/or weekends will be relocated to buildings where the air conditioning will remain on.

During weeks in which a holiday is observed (Monday, May 30, for Memorial Day and Monday, July 4, for Independence Day), offices will return to regular business hours (7.5 hours per day).

Regular hours will resume Monday, Aug. 15 for the 2016-2017 school year. Classes will resume Monday, Aug. 22.
