The First United Methodist Church in Sullivan, located across from the fire station, is hosting a 50s, 60s, 70s event Saturday, July 23.
Included in the free evening of entertainment is a car show held from 4-7 p.m. in the church parking lot.
Following the car show everyone is invited to stay until dark, approximately 9 p.m. when 50s, 60s, 70s, atmosphere is completed with a drive-in movie.

Registration for Sullivan School District will be noon- 7 p.m. August 4 in Sullivan Elementary School cafeteria.
Registration will once again be online, and the computer lab will be available for anyone who needs access. School supply lists, physical forms and free/reduced lunch applications will also be available online. Letters regarding registration will be mailed in late July.
Students who are new to Sullivan School District and kindergarten students who are not pre-registered must come to the districtwide registration. Any physicals, birth certificates, free/reduced lunch forms or other necessary paperwork may be turned in on that day.
The online registration process accepts credit card payments through the Illinois e-Pay program. Any fees that are not paid online must be paid at the districtwide registration August 4. Registration fees for high school students are $80, and fees for students in grades K-8 are $50. The technology fee for all fifth grade through 11th grade students receiving iPads has been reduced to $20. In addition, high school students will be required to purchase a P.E. uniform. Uniforms will cost $15.50-$20.50 depending on size. There will also be a $50 fee for any student enrolled in driver’s education.
A participation fee will be charged to high school students who wish to participate in athletics. Students participating in football will be charged a $40 fee. All other high school sports will be charged a $25 participation fee. There is a family cap of $100 for athletic participation fees. The athletic participation fee will be waived for those students qualifying for free or reduced priced meals.
Families who automatically qualify for free/reduced price meals based on information provided by the Department of Human Services will be notified by mail. All other families may submit an application during the online registration process. Those students who qualify for free meals will receive an automatic fee waiver. Those who qualify for reduced-price meals will pay a reduced registration fee ($24 for high school students; $15 for middle and elementary school students).
The first day of school for Sullivan students will be August 22. Due to a state mandate, this will be a full day of school. Elementary school will begin at 8 a.m. and dismiss at 3 p.m. Middle and high schools will begin at 8:14 a.m. and dismiss at 3:15 p.m.
All students entering kindergarten, grades six and nine must have a complete physical and immunizations updated by the first day of school. Those students who do not have physicals completed will be excluded from school until those forms are completed and returned to their respective building offices.
Children entering kindergarten, sixth or ninth grade who have not yet started or completed necessary vaccinations are noncompliant and will be excluded from school on the first day. Contact the Moultrie County Health Department at 728-4114 for information regarding upcoming Immunization clinics.

A new group called “100 Women Who Care” is starting in Sullivan, and all women are invited to participate.
The group is neither a for-profit nor a non-profit organization. It is not affiliated with any other entity in town. It does not have a board of directors, a staff or even a budget but has the possibility of making a substantial impact in the Sullivan area.
Sullivan has more than 50 organizations that are consistently fundraising to create programs for almost every demographic of the town. A combined contribution from 100 Women Who Care could allow a group to do a larger, perhaps normally unattainable project that could otherwise take years to attain.
In a nutshell, women will commit to two meetings this year, one on July 28 and one on October 27. Upon arrival, each attendee may nominate a charity she deems worthy.
All nominations will be put into a fishbowl, and three will be drawn blindly. Those who nominated the selected charities are invited to speak about the organization for no more than five minutes each.
After that, everyone votes by private ballot for the charity she would most like to fund. The votes are counted and the winner announced. Then participants each write a $100 check directly to that charity.
Teams may also be created of up to four people who contribute $100 combined. If the group consists of 100 women, the group will be making a $10,000 contribution twice in 2016.

The Moultrie County farm is up for cash rent. Members of the building and grounds committee agreed to advertise for bids on the 217.58 acre county farm, continuing the two year lease.
Committee chair Gary Smith noted the farm had earned the county $85,000 in net income, and the two year lease program has worked well for those farming the land and the county. In order to submit a cash rent proposal the bidder must own 40 acres or live in Moultrie County. Provisions to maintain soil quality will be included with the committee moving toward an August 3 bid opening for the November 1, 2016 through October 31, 2018 contract.
The existing contract is $417A plus a portion of the lime cost.
In an additional committee report Rick Matthews noted a $1795 circulating pump replacement is necessary at the Moultrie County jail. Matthews said he would rebuild the existing pumps to allow for a future back up.

Sullivan police are searching for a Polaris RZR UTV that was stolen from Sullivan Auto Center late Saturday or early Sunday.
Police Chief John Love asks that residents be on the lookout for the vehicle in case it was abandoned locally.

The July general meeting of the Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society has been cancelled due to the health issues of the speaker.
The society will be meet August 18, and the program will be on the George Lawn and Garden Equipment made at what was then called Community Industries.
The speaker will be Gary Davis of Lovington. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Center in Sullivan.

Citywide clean up is a Sullivan City Council commitment: How to accomplish it quickly is the hovering question?
At the June 27 meeting public health and safety commissioner Bill Hagen recommended putting the money from recycling toward citywide clean up.
Mayor Ann Short noted city clerk Monte Johnson had pursued outside bids, and Area Disposal of Peoria could do the clean up in September or October for $2300 per truck load (four to nine truck estimate).
Mayor Short noted appliances, electronics, and tires wouldn’t be accepted; construction items bundled and mattresses wrapped in plastic were among Area Disposal restrictions placed on the citywide clean up.
“For that kind of price we should look at alternatives,” Commissioner Mike Kirk said, suggesting the city could rent a large dumpster and pay city employees overtime for the Area Disposal price.
Commissioner Mike Mossman noted one community had a fenced central site where citizens could show a city utility bill in order to dump unwanted items.
Mayor Short reminded the council that past experiences prove that such a location would have to be secured to prevent random trash dumping. The item was taken under further advisement.
Bob Hagen and a group of SHS class of 1971 grads requested a block of Washington Street closed for the Saturday, October 8 45th class reunion.
Hagen explained that classes graduating before and after the class of 1971 are invited, and they are planning to have a band play downtown that night, opening the event to the public.
The proposed location of the stage is Washington Plaza, next to The Little Theatre. The plaza will be removed by then, allowing the band to play on a stage occupying the parking spaces in that half block.
Hagen noted the class would like to make a donation toward the expense of the city providing utilities to the stage for the event.
October 8 is also during homecoming weekend and the SHS Alumni banquet. Permission was requested to start at 5:30 allowing the band to play 60s, 70s, and 80s rock and roll until 10 p.m. The council approved the class reunion plan for Saturday, Oct. 8.
Ordinances enacting net metering and interconnection policy for the electric department were approved.
A resolution adopting a three minute rule for public comments was approved, with Mayor Short emphasizing it would be enforced only if a member of the public became unruly.
Raffle licenses were granted to American Legion Post 68 and Sons of American Legion Post 68.
Council went into closed session to review executive session minutes. None were released.
Those attending included mayor Short, commissioners Hagen, Ken Johnson, Mossman and Mike Kirk; clerk Johnson, treasurer Sarah Golden and police chief John Love.
