Lovington Has Town Clean Up

The Lovington town wide cleanup is Saturday, June 11, 2016.

Residents are requested to place items for pick up on the front curb before 6:30 a.m. June 11.

Please call village at 873-4480 if you have large items or questions.

Sorry, no electronics, batteries, tires, dimensional lumber, shingles, or paint can be accepted.

If you have a junk car go to: http:www.donationline.com/donate-car-illinois-charity and choose your favorite charity then schedule a pick up.

For appliances call Mark Dodd at 217/521-5856 or Herschel Massie at 217/259-9236.

Stamp Out Hunger

On Saturday, May 14 the United States Postal Workers are collecting for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents are encouraged to fill a bag to help feed families in need. Donations collected by Sullivan Postal Workers help the Moultrie County Food Pantry.

Collect and bag nonpershisable foods like canned meats, fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal, peanut butter and rice.

Place the bagged goods by your mailbox.The letter carrier will pick up for delivery to the food pantry.

The annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is sponsored  by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Also supporting are the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union and their Help us help those in need program.

Blood Drive at Sullivan Post 68

The Sullivan American Legion Post #68 and the American Red Cross are sponsoring a blood drive at the Sullivan Legion 6 p.m. May 10.  Blood donors are encouraged to call drive coordinator, Jeri Davis, at 217-273-9456 to schedule an appointment. Donors may also go to redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment.

Summer months can be a critical time for blood donations. Blood supplies can be at critical low levels due to summer traveling and vacations.

Walk ins are welcome and appreciated; however, having an appointment decreases donor wait time and ensures adequate Red Cross staffing.

American Legion Offers Free Flags

The Sullivan American Legion Post 68 is offering American flags available for grave markers for Memorial Day.

The flags are free of charge and may be picked up at the American Legion Post in Sullivan after 4 p.m. week days, afternoon Saturdays, by contacting a member of the American Legion or by calling 217-728-4612

Chautauqua Spring Fair

The Chautauqua Spring Vendor Fair will be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 14 in Forest Park in Shelbyville.

Piano Benefits Relay for Life

First Christian Church in Sullivan is hosting a piano concert at 7 p.m. May 14 to benefit Moultrie County Relay For Life.

Pianist Tyler Harr, who is a music education major at Eastern Illinois University, will be at the piano. Harr, who has strong roots in Sullivan with grandparents Fred and Carroll Sebens along with his aunts and uncles living in the area, is a junior at EIU and is highly recognized for his musical talents.

Harr is performing in honor of his uncle Kris Sebens who died of cancer May 13, 2013.

First National CEO, President

Ray Duncan, Chairman of the Board of First National Bank of Sullivan, announced that at the annual stockholder’s meeting March 22 Paul Hrvol was named CEO and Reid Molzen was named president of the bank.

Hrvol, who has been with the bank since 1989, received his B.S. in finance from Eastern Illinois University in 1988 and attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware. He resides in Sullivan with his wife Mickey and their two sons.

Molzen received his B. S. in finance from Millikin University in 1992 and has been with the bank since 1992. He attended the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He resides in Sullivan with his wife Christy and their two sons.

Section FFA Officers Elected

Sullivan High School’s Devin Warren was elected the section FFA vice president and  Jon Gavin the section FFA treasurer for the upcoming year. Brodie Scribner is completing his term as section president. Sullivan

Okaw Valley FFA Chapter Officer Kristy Burford was recently selected to be the Section 16 secretary. Burford will be a senior at Okaw Valley High School and is currently serving as FFA chapter president.

Lovington Rabies Clinic

The Lovington Revitalization Coalition is offering the annual rabies clinic 12:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at the Lovington Fire Department.

Rabies vaccines for dogs and cats and county tags are available. Micro-chip service is also offered.

Helmeth receives Amtryke

River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
