Okaw Valley FFA Chapter Officer Kristy Burford was recently selected to be the Section 16 secretary. Burford will be a senior at Okaw Valley High School and is currently serving as FFA chapter president.

Sullivan  Elementary School gold slip winners are students who go above and beyond to follow expectations to be safe, be responsible, and be respectful and be here and be ready.

First grader Emerson Risley who asked to be a special friend to a student who needs help getting around the building.

Kindergartner Karson McCoy who noticed another student hadn’t had the chance to participate in his favorite free center, so he let that student take his place. Fifth grader Noel Kruse gave up her place in the breakfast line and had to go to the back of the line so another student could get the breakfast she wanted. Third grader Cameron Crowe (far right) took time (rather than hurrying to leave) to help a student pick up candy that had fallen out of a treat bag while getting on the bus after school.

Ray Duncan, Chairman of the Board of First National Bank of Sullivan, announced that at the annual stockholder’s meeting March 22 Paul Hrvol was named CEO and Reid Molzen was named president of the bank.

Hrvol, who has been with the bank since 1989, received his B.S. in finance from Eastern Illinois University in 1988 and attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware. He resides in Sullivan with his wife Mickey and their two sons.

Molzen received his B. S. in finance from Millikin University in 1992 and has been with the bank since 1992. He attended the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He resides in Sullivan with his wife Christy and their two sons.

An American Red Cross blood drive sponsored by Okaw Valley High School Student Council will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 in the Okaw Valley High School gym in Bethany.

Any healthy individual, age 16 through 75, who meets weight requirements may donate blood. Donors should eat a healthy meal and drink an extra 16 oz. of water and fluids before donating, and they must bring identification showing a picture and a signature.

All blood types are needed, especially Types 0- and 0+. You can save up to 15 minutes when you donate blood by using RapidPass. Visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass for more information.

Sullivan schools moved to finance health life safety approved projects, issuing $2,140,400 in bonds from school funds and another $2,140,400 sold as general obligation bonds.

Keeping it all in the district First Mid-Illinois Bank of Sullivan purchased the general obligation bonds at a 2.84 percent tax exempt rate.

District financial advisor Tim King told board members at the April 11 meeting that rates were better than expected, enabling the school district a 14 year payback plan.

By financing part of the HVAC and roofing projects for the elementary, middle school and high school with district funds, the school will generate $300,000 in interest income over the bond term, at 2.5 percent, King explained.

The total amount financed including the $123,000 previously issued comes to $4,263,800.

Board members approved both motions unanimously.
