An American Red Cross blood drive sponsored by the Findlay American Legion Auxiliary was held in Findlay at the Findlay American Legion Monday, April 11.  The theme of the drive was ‘Celebrating Spring”.

Twenty-three people answered the call to donate blood with 21 pints actually collected surpassing the goal of 19.

Milestones were reached by Bob Hubbartt who received his pin for donating a total of six gallons, and Michael Bear who received a pin for donating a total of 12 gallons.

Paige Tippit and April Brown were first time donors. The next blood drive will be 2-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at the Findlay American Legion.

Since road construction season is in full swing, many roads are already marked with orange construction zone signs and equipment. Illinois State Police District 10 troopers will be working diligently to patrol construction zones in order to ensure the safety of not only the workers but also the motorists traveling through the zones. Speed and inattentiveness are major contributors to work zone crashes.

Motorists are more likely to be a victim in a work zone crash than a worker. Statistics show that approximately 90 percent of all work zone fatalities are motorists. Provisional data shows that 29 people, including three workers, were killed in Illinois work zone crashes in 2014.

With a my Social Security account, people may:

· Keep track of their earnings and verify them every year with their Social Security Statement;
· Get an estimate of their future benefits, if they are still working;
· Get a verification letter with proof of their benefits, if they currently receive them;
· Manage their benefits;
· Change their address;
· Start or change direct deposit;
· Get a replacement Medicare card; and
· Get a replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S for tax season.

During my Social Security Week, the agency will hold “Check Your Statement Day” on April 7. It is important that people check their Social Security Statement every year to learn about future Social Security benefits and to verify annual earnings. Personalized Statements help people plan for their financial future. People may access their information when it’s convenient for them by creating a my Social Security account.

Social Security is also helping the U.S. Department of Treasury educate people about the value of saving for retirement. Please be advised that item #2 in Column one of page 1 of 27 of the News Progress insert of the March 23, 2016 newspaper entitled, “Legal Notice To Moultrie County Taxpayers Tax Year 2015/Payable 2016 Real Estate Assessed Values By Chief County Assessment Officer”, hereinafter “CCAO”, contained an appeal deadline layout error after the proofed copy with the correct appeal deadline had been approved by the CCAO. This error was not the fault of Moultrie County.

Specifically, the correction to Column one in the relevant part of item #2 on the first page of the legal notice insert is shown below with the incorrect appeal deadline date noted with a double strikethrough and the corrected appeal deadline date underlined.

2. If not satisfied with the assessor review, you may file an appeal with the Moultrie County Board of Review. There is a deadline for filing appeals; appeals must be filed with the Moultrie County Board of Review no later than 30 days after the date of this publication; that is no later than Friday, April 15, 2016 April 22, 2016. Appeals filed late will not be heard.
