Harboured Veterans Benefit

There will be a benefit for the Harboured Veterans organizations at the Sullivan V.F.W. from noon until 2 p.m.Sunday, Sept. 6.

All proceeds will go to veterans of Moultrie County. Live entertainment and free yoga lessons will be offered during the event.

There are no fees, but donations will be accepted.

Rep Shimkus Holds Office Hours Sept. 2 in Sullivan

Congressman John Shimkus (R-Illinois) will hold open office hours from 11am - 12:30 Wednesday, Sept 2 in the Sullivan City Building, 2 West Harrison.

Bethany Hosts Blood Drive

The American Red Cross team from Peoria will be at the Bethany Fire House on Route 121 2-6 p.m. September 1 to collect blood from donors. The drive is being sponsored by the Theta Psi Chapter. It takes approximately one hour and blood is desperately needed. To make an appointment, call 217-665-3457.

Primary Petitions Available

Nominating petitions for candidates planning to run in the March 15, 2016 General Primary Election will be available in Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England’s office Monday, August 31.

The first day to circulate petitions for established political parties and independent candidates is September 1, 2015. Filing period is 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. November 23, 24, and 25 and 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. November 30.

The countywide offices up for nomination are four full year terms for circuit clerk, coroner and state’s attorney; and, four year terms for county board members with four seats available. Precinct committeemen will be elected during the primary as well.

WCTU Reviews Programs

The East Central Illinois Woman’s Christian Temperance Union will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, in Arcola at the Dutch Kitchen. Woman members and men associates will review the programs for the coming fiscal year. Scavenger Hunt Saturday in Sullivan

A 13-18 year old scavenger hunt will take place this Saturday starting at 9. Headquarters will be at the park at our camper and clues will be throughout the city of Sullivan.

Helmeth receives Amtryke



News Progress


River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
