Public Warned About Scams Throughout Sullivan

Sullivan police John Love is asking the public to be extra-careful given a variety of mail scams that have occurred recently in Sullivan.
Love said that just this week, his department has had several individuals report being solicited by what SPD has since been able to determine are scams.
“We just ask people to please not do anything until you have verified it,” said Love. “Check with a bank or with us.”

Additional LLC Graduates Announced

Additional graduates received their degrees and certificates after the completion of the spring semester 2015 at Lake Land College. Area graduates included: Brandon Cook, Sullivan, AAS Automotive Technology; and Jessica Clotfelter, Windsor,  AA, Liberal Arts.

Moultrie-Sullivan Fair July 24-25

The 67th annual Moultrie-Sullivan fair will be held on July 24 and 25 at the Moultrie County 4-H Center.
Junior projects and jr. beef will be shown on Friday and sheep, swine, and horses along with flowers, vegetables, visual arts, and poultry and rabbits will be shown on Saturday. The Moultrie-Douglas 4-H horse show will be exhibited as well as on Saturday. For more information, contact Dale Crawford at 728-8991 or online at www.moultriesullivanfair.com. Fairbooks are available at the Moultrie-Douglas extension office in Arthur as well as at the Moultrie County Farm Bureau office in Sullivan.

SOV Football Camp Monday

Two SOV football camps will begin Monday, July 20.
A camp open to high schoolers will run from 7-9:15 a.m., followed by a youth camp for 5-8 grades from 10-11:30 a.m. Monday-Thursday.
The camps will be held at the high school practice field. Camp applications are still being accepted and may be found at the high school office. For more information, call the high school at 728-8311.

Mobile Drivers Services Coming to Sullivan July 16

Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with Sullivan Library, is offering drivers a chance to renew their driver’s license or vehicle registration renewal sticker, obtain a duplicate or corrected license, or obtain an Illinois identification card. White’s mobile unit will be available at the Sullivan Library, located at 2 West Water in Sullivan, on July 16 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
“I am pleased to work with the Sullivan Library to bring my office’s services directly to the people,” said White. “This is another example of how my office continues to use technology as an ally to improve upon the delivery of services to Illinois residents.”
An applicant renewing a current Illinois driver’s license or identification card need only present a current valid driver’s license or identification card. If the applicant is applying for either a duplicate or corrected driver’s license or identification card the applicant must present two forms of identification. Findlay Farmers Market Resumes Saturday

After taking a break for the Fourth of July holiday, farmer market activities will resume Saturday July 11 in Findlay, at which F.L.I.P. will be hosting a Flea Market in addition to the regular farmers’ market activities. Scott Buxton of Bethany will also be in attendance serving Belgian waffles in the morning and polish sausage and burgers in the afternoon.

ALAH Freshman Soccer Registration

Alcohol Seller/Server Training July 9 in Bethany

The American Legion in Bethany will host a beverage alcohol sellers and servers education and training class (BASSET) July 9 beginning at 1 p.m.
The class is mandatory for those selling or serving alcohol in Bethany per village ordinance. Upon completion, the certificate is good for three years.
The class will train participants on how to spot fake identification cards as well as how to determine whether a patron has consumed too much alcohol and how to legally deny further service.
Preregistration is not required for the class, but it is strongly encouraged. To preregister, call the Bethany village hall at 665-3351. The class, which will be conducted by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission office, is free. Competing at Timberlake Golf Course Monday, June 23, the team of Adam Dillard, Clint Marshall, Bill Hubbartt and Steve Effner finished first with an 8-under par. Taking second with a 5-under par was the team of Chad Palmer, Steve Nickerson, Kevin Elder and Gage Elder.
