Happy Graduation Ads Still Available

Ads include a picture with a congratulatory message for $20.
The deadline to purchase an ad is May 29. For submission forms, see either last or next week’s editions of the News•Progress or visit our office and ask for Barry Morgan.

Mo-Do Fair Pageant Contestants Sought

Anyone who wishes to participate in the Moultrie-Douglas County Fair pageants to be held in July should contact Sandy Hoke, pageant director at 493-3583 by Wednesday, June 3 for Miss and Junior Miss.
The Little Miss contestants deadline is Saturday, June 13.

Monday Night Scramble Results 5.13.15

Competing Monday, May 4 in the weekly scrambler at Timberlake Golf Course in Sullivan, the team of Brett Marshall, Scotty 8-ball, Clint Marshall, and Adam Dillard won, going 4-under par after winning a play-off hole.
Finishing second was the team of Dustin Rawlings, Patrick Ray, Dustin Berry, and Mike Lynch, also with a 4-under par.
Competing Monday, May 11, the team of Dustin Berry, Jake Hubbartt, Patrick Ray, and Dustin Rawlings placed first with 5-under par.
Finishing second with a score of 3-under par was the team of Cole Russell, Shane Russell, Joey Fultz, and Jerry Lane.

Sullivan Girls’ Basketball Camp June 8-11

Two basketball camps will be coming to Sullivan next month.
A camp open to 6-8 graders will be held 8-11 a.m. June 8-11. The first two days will be held at the Sullivan High School gym while the last two days will be held in the elementary school gym.
There will also be a camp available for 9-12 graders held from 8-11 a.m. June 8-11 at the high school.
Brochure forms may be found at the middle and high schools or by clicking here.
Forms should be turned in by Friday, May 15 to any of the Sullivan school offices. Late registration will be accepted, but t-shirts may not be guaranteed. Grade levels are as of next fall.

Blood Drive May 12 at Legion

Sullivan American Legion Post #68 and The American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive at the American Legion at 8 West Strain in Sullivan May 12 from noon to 6 pm.   Blood collection is very critical during the summer vacation months.  For every unit of blood collected, up to three people can be helped.  Every type of blood is needed.  If you have tried before and were unable to donate, please come back and try again.  Many of the rules for donating have changed.  For an appointment, please call Jeri Davis at 273-9456.  Walk ins are more than welcome, but having an appointment decreases your wait time and helps ensure adequate staffing by the Red Cross.

OV Blood Drive May 15

A blood drive will be held Friday, May 15 in the Okaw Valley High School gym in Bethany.  Any healthy individual, age 16 through 75, who meets weight requirements may donate blood.  Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing a picture and a signature.  All blood types are needed, especially Types 0- and 0+. The drive will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and is sponsored by the Okaw Valley High School Student Council.

Theft Reported at Sullivan Liquor Store Saturday

Two male subjects are wanted in the connection to a theft that occurred Saturday night in Sullivan.
According to Sullivan police chief John Love, a 911 call was made at approximately 10:11 p.m. Saturday regarding a theft in progress at the Sullivan Package Liquor store located at 619 S. Hamilton.
According to the police report, two male subjects entered the business with one eventually purchasing two energy drinks and a bottle of whiskey while the other stole a bottle of rum valued at $20.
Love says that no arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon and that the incident is still under investigation.

Redskins Summer Football Camps Set for June, July

A football camp for both Sullivan and Okaw Valley students will be held this summer in both June and July.
Those who will be a freshman-senior beginning next fall are encouraged to attend the camp which will be held between June 8-11 and July 20-23 from 7-9 a.m.
There is a fee associated with the camp. For fee information as well as application forms, contact Sullivan High School at 728-8311. Applications need to be returned by May 4 and may be mailed to Gerald Temples, Sullivan High School, 725 N. Main Street in Sullivan.

Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library Summer Reading Program

Sign-ups for the summer reading program at Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library in Sullivan will start May 4. The sessions are based on grade level.
Sessions for students entering kindergarten to those entering second grade will be held from 9-10 a.m., August 3-6.
Students entering third grade to those entering fifth grade will meet from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. from August 3-6.
To celebrate the end of the summer reading program, a party will be held from 10 a.m.-noon August 7.
The last day to sign-up for k-5 summer reading is July 20.
The young adult program will be held 1-3 p.m. June 4, 11, 18 and 25. The young adults are students entering sixth grade and up. The last day for young adult sign-ups is May 30.
Once again the library will present popcorn and a movie this summer. Movies will be shown 1- 3 p.m. June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 10, 17, 24 and 31. These movies are for all ages; however, children under five must have adult supervision. Check with the library in late May for movie titles.

Helmeth receives Amtryke



News Progress


River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
