Lovington Library Silent Auction and Bingo

The Lovington Public Library is again holding a “Spring Silent Auction” that will start on Monday March 23 at 10 a.m. thru Thursday April 2 at 1 p.m. Patrons that come into the library may put down a bid for any or all of the nine baked items that will be displayed by a picture at this time. The patron that writes down the top bid by Thursday April 2 at 1 p.m. will be called that same afternoon and may then pick the baked item up on Saturday April 4 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
All monies raised by the silent auction will be put toward summer program activities.
Another event that the library will host is a free blood pressure check on Friday March 27.
The Moultrie County Health Department will be providing the checks from 12:45-1:15 for anyone who would like to stop by the library. Those attending are also encouraged to bring a white elephant prize and play Bingo from 1-3 p.m. For more information call the Lovington Library at 873-4468.

Extended Hours For Absentee And Early Voting, Grace Period Registration, Voting This Saturday

Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England will hold special Saturday hours Saturday, March 28 for absentee and early voting and for grace period registration and voting (grace period is for individuals who have moved or changed name and need to transfer/update their registration, or for individuals who are not registered to vote, to actually register with valid identification.  Grace period registrants must vote at the time of registration if they wish to vote in this election; they cannot vote at the polls this election.)
The county clerk’s office will be open for special Saturday hours for absentee/early/grace voting only 9 a.m-noon Saturday March 28.  The clerk’s office will also remain open for absentee voting until 5 p.m. Monday April 6.

Lady Red to Compete Friday

The SOV girls’ track team will compete at the Illinois Top Times indoor meet Friday in Bloomington. There, the team is top ranked in several events, including Amanda McClain in the 200m (1st), 400m (1st), and long jump (2nd). Emily Neuhauser will enter ranked third in both the 60m and 200m, and the 4x200 relay team is ranked fifth.

2015 Easter Egg Hunts and Celebrations

Below are various upcoming area Easter egg hunts and celebrations:
• First Christian Church in Bethany will host an egg hunt  Saturday April 4 at 10 a.m.
• New Life Church in Sullivan will host an egg hunt  Sunday April 5 at 9 a.m. and will be open to those ages two through fifth grade. There will also be a real bunny give away and a springtime petting zoo.
• Petersen Health Care will have their annual Easter Carnival at Sullivan Rehabilitation & Health Care, Saturday, April 4 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The egg hunt will be at 1 p.m.. This free carnival will include a petting zoo, pony rides, bounce house and big slide, face painting, and a cake walk. There will be hot dogs, sno cones, popcorn, and more for sale as well.
• The Sullivan fire district will hold its annual Easter egg hunt Sunday, April 5 at Wyman Park in Sullivan starting at 3 p.m. There will be five age groups including: 0-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11.
• The Sullivan Church of God will host its annual children’s ministry Easter party Wednesday, April 1 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. There will be games, activities, teachings, and food. There will also be a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt.

Counterfeit $100 Bill Found in Sullivan

Sullivan police chief John Love is asking businesses and the public alike to be on the watch for counterfeit money in Sullivan.
Love says that a local business recently received a $100 counterfeit bill, which was confirmed by a Sullivan bank.
The police chief says that should anyone be suspicious of receiving possible counterfeit monies, to take the bills to any local bank where staff can then inspect it for fraudulence. If such is found, the bank will then notify local authorities.

Lovington Revitalization Meeting March 26

A Lovington Revitalization meeting with Mike Crews of Illinois Coalition Community Service is set for March 26 at 6:30 p.m.at the Lovington Public Library.
The public is invited. Discussions will center on a summer lunch program for the youth. Tony Schuering the V.P. of of Municipal Consulting Group will also be present to give information on TIF (Tax Increment Financing). Other topics of interest may be discussed.
The effort is looking for fresh, innovating ideas, or events that have been done in the past that may be rejuvenated. Volunteers are also needed and welcome.

Candidates’ Forum Next Tuesday

The News•Progress along with the Sullivan Chamber & Economic Development office will be sponsoring a candidates’ forum next Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Sullivan High School commons.
The majority of Sullivan school board candidates are expected to attend and answer a series of questions.
The public is invited to attend, but if you aren’t able to make it in person, the forum will be streamed live by visiting www.newsprogress.com.

2015 Mobile Home Privilege Tax Bills due May 15

Moultrie County 2015 Mobile Home Privilege Tax bills will be mailed March 13 and are due May 15. Taxes may be mailed to Moultrie County Collector, P.O. BOX 650, Sullivan, IL. 61951. They may also be paid at all Moultrie County Banks such as Hardware State Bank, Scott State Bank in Bethany, Dalton City and Sullivan, State Bank of Arthur, Arthur Community Bank, First National Bank of Arthur, First National Bank of Sullivan and First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust in Sullivan. Applications for the exemption based on the age of 65 and older and the disabled must be filed in our office. Office hours are 8:30-4:30 Monday – Friday. If you no longer own a mobile home and received a tax bill or the information on the bill is incorrect, contact our office by calling 217-728-4032.  The delinquent penalty for mobile homes is $25 per month or any part thereof not to exceed $100.

OV Post Prom Fundraiser Saturday

Okaw Valley’s post prom committee is hosting a St. Paddy’s Day fundraiser event this Saturday, March 14 at the Hired Hand Winery & Saloon in Bethany. Doors open at 6 p.m. with live music by Fat Finger from 8-10 p.m. There will be a cover fee. Also featured will be a mega raffle drawing  as well as 50-50. Mega raffle tickets are still available. There will be one grand prize winner of $1000 and a second prize of $200. For more information call Karen Jeffers at 217-972-7167.

Helmeth receives Amtryke

River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
