Mobile Drivers License Unit at Sullivan Library June 18

Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library in Sulivan, is offering drivers a chance to renew their driver’s license or vehicle registration renewal sticker, obtain a duplicate or corrected license, or obtain an Illinois identification card. White’s mobile unit will be available at the Sullivan Library, located at 2 West Water in Sullivan, on June 18 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
“I am pleased to work with the Sullivan Library to bring my office’s services directly to the people,” said White. “This is another example of how my office continues to use technology as an ally to improve upon the delivery of services to Illinois residents.”
An applicant renewing a current Illinois driver’s license or identification card need only present a current valid driver’s license or identification card. If the applicant is applying for either a duplicate or corrected driver’s license or identification card the applicant must present two forms of identification. Memorial Day Service Sunday

Oak Grove Baptist Church in Bethany will hold a Memorial Day Service Sunday June 7 at 10:30 a.m. Korean war veteran Al Lynn representing Independent Baptist Churches in Illinois will be the special speaker. The color guard will be provided by the American Legion Post 68.

Inaugural Runners on a Mission 5K Winners Announced

The Smyser Christian Church women’s ministry hosted their inaugural “Runners on a Mission 5K” with this year’s mission and focus being the Sullivan and Windsor backpack programs, which both received $400. The top four runners from the 5k were Cheryl Jestis, 27:59 (female master’s winner); Steve Lawhorn, 27:42 (men’s master winner); Lacey Lawhorn, 27:42 (female overall winner); and Raymond Miller, 20:04 (male overall winner).

Sullivan City-wide Clean-up June 20, Recycled Tech July 18

The Sullivan city-wide clean up day has been scheduled for June 20, and the city is asking that residents do not put out items such as tires, car parts, liquids such as paint thinners, oils or fuels. Other prohibited items include concrete, bricks, dirt, burnt materials and fluorescent light bulbs as well as any electronics. A full list may be viewed on the city of Sullivan’s website (http://www.sullivanil.us/), and an ad will be placed in the newspaper.
To dispose of appliances, a sticker must be purchased at the city building. Call 728-4383 for details. Items should be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. June 20
Almost a month after the city clean-up, electronics will be accepted and recycled. Residents may bring their electronic items such as computer monitors, desktops, laptops, televisions, CDR’s, video equipment, paper shredders, cameras and MP3s to the Wyman Park parking lot just south of the lake on Saturday, July 18. Drop off will be scheduled from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. According to Commissioner Mike Kirk , the city set a record last year by collecting six tons of recyclable technology. Lowery at Lovington Assembly of God Sunday

Pastor Doug Lowery will be ministering at Lovington Assembly of God Sunday, May 31 beginning at 6 p.m.
Lowery has served as founding pastor of Maranatha Assembly of God in Decatur since January 1978. Previous ministry included serving as a youth pastor in Decatur and San Marcos Ca. and senior pastor of West Point AG, in West Point, Ill. He has also served as a church planter, planting seven churches in Illinois and 40 churches worldwide, primarily India. He and his wife Rosemary have been married since 1969 and have three children and 12 grandchildren.  A special offering to support Lowery’s mission trip to India next spring will also be taken.

Monday Night Scramble Results 5.27.15

Competing Monday, May 18 in the weekly scrambler at Timberlake Golf Course in Sullivan, the team of Dustin Rawlings and Jeremy Moxley earned first place, shooting 6-under and winning the playoff hole. Taking second was the team of Gage Elder, Quinton Ray, Steve Nickerson and Chad Palmer.

Rules of the Road Review Course June 3

Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc., is offering a Rules of the Road Review Course for all citizens in the Sullivan area. The course is free to anyone who wishes to attend and will be held at Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc. which is located at 114 E. Jefferson in Sullivan from 10-11:30 a.m.
The purpose of the course is to help participants pass the Illinois driver’s license renewal examination. The course prepares applicants for the general written and road examinations, and also provides information on the vision screening.

NP Closed Monday

In observance of Memorial Day, the News•Progress will be closed Monday but will reopen Tuesday with normal business hours.
Next week’s edition will still be out on newsstands Wednesday afternoon. Classified, legal, and display advertising, however, that is to run in the May 27 issue, must be delivered to our office by noon Friday, May 22.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser Fri. and Sat.

The residents of Patterson House will be selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts next to CVS and outside of Chips Marine to raise money to provide funding for Special Olympics, glasses, and Christmas gifts due to otherwise limited funds.
The fundraiser will begin Friday at 5 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

Judge Flannell to Speak at Historical Society Meeting

The Moultrie County Historical and Genalogical Society will hold their monthly general meeting on at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21 in the Heritage Center located in Sullivan.
There the speaker for the evening will be Sixth Judicial Circuit Judge Dan Flannell.
Flannell first joined the court in 1988 and was retained in 2012 for a term that expires in 2018. He was elected by his fellow circuit judges as Chief Judge, effective August 1, 2012.
The Heritage Center will be closed on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day.
