SBL Lincolnland Home Care and Lincolnland Hospice will conduct a free blood pressure clinic from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 21 at the Senior Center, Sullivan. For more information, call Lincolnland Home Care at 1-800-879-3212.
SBL Lincolnland Home Care, Lincolnland Hospice and Lincolnland Home Medical will sponsor bingo from 9 – 10 a.m. following the blood pressure clinic.

Findlay American Red Cross Blood Drive Misses Goal

An American Red Cross blood drive was held in Findlay on Monday, April 13 at the Findlay American Legion Hall hosted by the Findlay American Legion Auxiliary. There were 16 donors reporting and 15 pints collected. Each donor was treated to homemade treats and received a potted flower in honor of Celebrating Spring.
The next blood drive will be Fred and Chris’s anniversary drive. It will be held on June 9.

Monday Night Scramble Results 4.22.15

The team of Dustin Berry, Jake Hubbartt, Joey Fultz and Jerry Lane won this week’s scrambler at Timberlake Golf Course, shooting a combined 2-under par.
Last week, taking first with 3-under par and winning the play-off hole was the team of Dustin Berry, Jake Hubbartt, Seth Sawyer, and Andy Askins. Taking second with 3-under par was the team of Shane and Cole Russell, Rich Apperson, and Leann Weber.

County Historical Society to Meet Thursday

The Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society will hold their monthly general meeting Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Center in Sullivan. The speaker for the evening will be  Jeff Waite of Sullivan. Waite served on the Sullivan Fire Department for 30 years, many of those years as the Fire Chief. In October of 2013 Waite was awarded Fire Chief Emeritus Award at the Illinois Fire Chief’s Conference, an honor well deserved.
Waite will speak about the history of the Sullivan Fire Department and the building the fire department occupied before it became the home of the Historical and Genealogical Society of Moultrie County. Currently Waite is now working as special assistant to the chief circuit judge here in Moultrie County.
The public is encouraged to attend. A social hour will follow with refreshments being served.

Sullivan Townwide Rummages June 5, 6

Sullivan’s town wide rummage sales, hosted by the News•Progress and Sullivan Boy Scouts, will be held June 5 and 6. Entry forms will begin to appear in the News•Progress next month and will ask for address, hours and days of sale, and a short description.
The Sullivan Boy Scouts will hold a lunch cookout both days in the IGA parking lot. Rummage sale listings will not only appear in the News•Progress but will also be searchable through our online directory, which in turn can map out the locations. That directory may be accessed by visiting www.newsprogress.com and then clicking on “Rummage Sales” under the logo. Both the hard copy and online listing will come out Wednesday, June 3.

Hearts and Hands at Home Community Wellness Fair April 25

A wellness fair for the mind, body, and spirit promoting abundant living centered in a healthy lifestyle will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday April 25 at the Sullivan First United Methodist Church.
According to event organizers, “The event will include on site pharmacists for medication questions, licensed nurses performing health screenings, community resources promoting healthy living, and lifestyle education that is consistent with the gospel and the teaching of Jesus Christ.”
Participants are encouraged to bring current medications, or a list of medications, to the event for one-on-one time with a pharmacist.

Mobile License Renewal Unit at Sullivan Library April 16

Secretary of State Jesse White, in cooperation with Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library in Sullivan, is offering drivers a chance to renew their driver’s license or vehicle registration renewal sticker, obtain a duplicate or corrected license, or obtain an Illinois identification card. White’s mobile unit will be available at the library, located at 2 West Water in Sullivan, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 16.
An applicant renewing a current Illinois driver’s license or identification card need only present a current valid driver’s license or identification card. If the applicant is applying for either a duplicate or corrected driver’s license or identification card, the applicant must present two forms of identification. American Red Cross Blood Drive in Findlay

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held in Findlay 2-6 p.m. Monday, April 13 at the Findlay American Legion Hall hosted by the Findlay American Legion Auxiliary. The theme will be Celebrate Spring! It’s time to get out and start off this spring by helping others in need. A donation may help save up to three lives and takes only about an hour. Lovington Public Library News for April

Bob Ross Painting Class

The Bob Ross painting class will be held at the Lovington Library on Saturday April 11 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There is a cost, which includes everything, minus lunch and a roll of paper towels which participants are asked to bring. Preregistration is required by Thursday April 9 at 1 p.m. The public is encouraged to take note the change to the second Saturday and not the third Saturday.

Movie Monday

With school out for spring break the Lovington Library will host a Movie Monday with free popcorn on Monday, April 6 from 1-3 p.m. No preregistration is required.

Youth Book Club

Youth in 4-8th grades are invited to come to the Youth Book Club meetings on Tuesday April 7 and Tuesday April 21 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. New games will be featured at each meeting such as “Boost Your Memory Skills”, “Silly Sentence Game” and “Which is the Correct Meaning of a Word”? Those planning on attending are reminded to not forget to bring a book to discuss.

National Library Week

National Library Week is being celebrated at the Lovington Library April 12-April 18. The library is excited to have a local Lovington author Peggy Larson come in to read her book, “The Visitors of Pompadour” beginning at 6:30 p.m. A dragon craft and refreshments will then follow. There will also be sign-ups for prizes throughout the week to celebrate reading, so stop in and visit the library.

Free Blood Pressure Check & White Elephant Bingo

The Moultrie County Health Department will be conducting free blood pressure checks from 12:45-1:15 p.m. at the library on Friday April 24 and then a white Elephant Bingo will be held from 1-3 p.m. for adults. Participants are asked to bring a white elephant prize to contribute to the prize table.

Helmeth receives Amtryke



News Progress


River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
