Lovington Trustee Petition Packets Available

The Village of Lovington has three trustee positions open for the 2015 election. As such, petition packets can be picked up at the Lovington Village Hall beginning September 23, and must be turned in no later than December 22, 2014.

Mobile Mammography Available Locally

Sarah Bush Lincoln’s Mobile Mammography Services will be at the SBL Sullivan Clinic October 30.

The Mobile Mammography van helps provide mammograms to women who may not otherwise have access to, or be able to afford these life-saving preventive screens. Women who qualify will receive their mammogram free.

Staffed by technologists from the Sarah Bush Lincoln Mammography Department, the mobile mammography van provides digital mammography technology, the same quality services found at the Health Center. All staff members are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology and are further certified in mammography.

ALAH FFA Alumni to Serve Pork Chop Supper Friday

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond FFA Alumni Chapter will serve a pork chop supper prior to the homecoming football game between the ALAH Knights and Sangamon Valley Friday, September 19 in Arthur.
Serving will be from 5 p.m. through halftime at the Merchant’s Building on the Moultrie-Douglas County Fairgrounds adjacent to the football field. The menu will consist of a smoked pork chop dinner with baked beans, cole slaw, dessert and drink or a pork chop sandwich for a fee.
Indoor seating and carryout are available.
Proceeds raised from the pork chop supper help fund FFA activities for the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond FFA Chapter.

J-Creek Breakfast Sept. 20

Jonathan Creek Christian Church will host a breakfast this 7-10 a.m. this Saturday. As with breakfasts in the past, the church will serve biscuits & gravy, fruit, bacon, sausage, egg casserole and coffee cake.  Donations will be accepted which will go towards the Caring Christians Ministry at JCreek. Jonathan Creek is located 1 and 1/2 miles off 121 on the Cadwell Rd.

Kiwanis Organizational Meeting Next Thursday

Missions Fundraiser Sept. 13

A mission expo/lunch/fundraiser will be held Saturday, September 13 at the Sullivan United Methodist Church from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
A lunch consisting of pulled pork or hot dog, chips, drink and desert will be provided. Donations are appreciated. Displays of missions being done in LaCeibita, Honduras will be presented. Over 80 plan purses made by artisans from Honduras will be on sale as will Honduran made jewelry. All proceeds will be used to fund 2015 missions to LaCeibita, Honduras. Benefit for Walk to End Alzheimer’s Saturday

Eastview Terrace will be sponsoring a benefit for The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Saturday, September 6, at the VFW in Sullivan.
A pool tournament will be held earlier in the day, and the benefit will begin at 6 pm. A donation will be asked at the door. There will be a pulled pork dinner, 50/50 raffle, a live band (Joshua Dwayne and the Night Train) and a silent auction.
Some items up for grabs include a hand crafted seven foot functioning light house, hand crafted pallet furniture, local art pieces, and various gift certificates and donations from local businesses and vendors. All proceeds will be donated locally to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in honor of residents. For any questions please contact Lacy Mossman at 728-7367.

Improvements to Begin Sept. 11 on Route 121

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation District Seven office, road improvements on a one mile stretch of Illinois Route 121 between Mattoon and Sullivan are set to begin September 11 and take two weeks to complete.
The improvements will include milling the pavement and then resurfacing a section approximately four miles east of Sullivan just south of Mid-State Tank. Both lanes of traffic will be affected with one lane open at all times and both lanes open of an evening.

Helmeth receives Amtryke

River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
