Buxton’s to Reveal Ribbon Corn Maze Thursday

Buxton’s Garden Farm and Flower Shop is encouraging the public to attend the unveiling of a corn maze Thursday with proceeds going to the Moultrie County Relay for Life and, by extension, the American Cancer Society.

Thursday’s unveiling will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a tour of the maze followed by an aerial photo of both the maze and participants.

Those wishing to participate are asked to be at the farm prior to 6:30 p.m. and to wear a purple t-shirt.

Tickets are available for $5 at the event.

Men’s Fellowship Breakfast September 13

Solid Rock Chapel in Sullivan will host a men’s fellowship breakfast Saturday, September 13. Doors will open at 7 a.m. for coffee with the free breakfast starting at 8 a.m.

Special guest speaker and accomplished deer hunter Steve Lachenmayr will then give his presentation beginning at 9 a.m. Lachenmayr, who was named Illinois conservation land-owner of the year in 2007, will be offering advice to deer hunters and habitat enthusiasts and sharing his Christian testimony. A drawing will be held for a new Mathews hunting bow from among those in attendance.

Free Magic Show Aug. 20

Windsor Christian Church will host a free magic show at 5:30 p.m. August 20 and invites the public to attend. Free hotdogs, chips, and drink will be served on a first come first serve basis until gone.  Andrew, the Family Magician will perform a show at 6:30 p.m.

Windsor Christian Church is located at 1101 Broadway.

Red Apple Fire Investigation Further Delayed

According to Sullivan fire chief Mike Piper, the state fire marshal’s investigation into the cause of the Red Apple fire from late July was delayed last week because of rain in the area.

The investigation was then further delayed this week due to investigators unable to secure permission from Red Apple ownership to revisit the scene. The Sadikoska family, who owns the restaurant, was expected to be back in the United States late Tuesday after being out of the country during the fire. The investigation looks to continue, if not wrap up, late this week.

New Youth Ministry in Lovington

Lovington Assembly of God is launching a new youth group, Impact Youth Ministry, which will meet 6:30-8 p.m. every Thursday beginning August 21

Impact Youth Ministry is a time when teenagers in sixth through 12th grade may come together to fellowship, worship, and grow in their faith in Christ. Impact’s focus is through discipleship by enabling and equipping this generation of teens to come to know God in a real, tangible, life-changing way and to be a powerful witness to the people with whom they interact.

Rauner in Sullivan Sunday

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner will be in Sullivan this Sunday.

Hosted by the Moultrie County Republican Central Committee, a meet and greet will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at TnT Pizzeria. Rauner, who is running for Illinois Governor against incumbent Pat Quinn, will be joined by US Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL-15).

The public is welcome to attend.

Back To School Blood Drive in Findlay Aug. 11

The Findlay American Legion will host an American Red Cross blood drive 2-6 p.m. Monday August 11 at the Findlay American Legion Hall. Every donor may pick a school supply for personal use or to donate to kids in the Okaw Valley School District.

Since May, the Red Cross has experienced a shortfall of almost 80,000 donations, potentially affecting patients in need. As a result, blood donations are urgently needed.

Refreshments will be served.

LLC Livestock Judging Scholarship Recipient

The Lake Land College Livestock Judging Team recently announced freshman scholarship recipients for the upcoming school year.
Zachary Day of Lovington was one of several to earn a scholarship.

Lovington Library Seeking GED Interest

The Lovington Library is seeking local interest on attending GED classes in the near future.

According to the library’s director Darlene Barlow, the library currently has two to three individuals interested in attending a GED class at the library, but Lake Land College, who instructs the class, requires six to eight individuals before the class is established.

If interested, call the Lovington Library before August 15 at 873-4468.

Helmeth receives Amtryke

River Helmeth received an Amtryke from the Sullivan AMBUCS at their fundraising cookout last Saturday, May 9th, in the Kirby Foods parking lot. River rode her new Amtryke for the first time like a pro as her mom Stephanie, looked on. With a big smile and look of determination, River showed everyone how well she could ride.
