LLC Livestock Judging Scholarship Recipient

The Lake Land College Livestock Judging Team recently announced freshman scholarship recipients for the upcoming school year.
Zachary Day of Lovington was one of several to earn a scholarship.

Lovington Library Seeking GED Interest

The Lovington Library is seeking local interest on attending GED classes in the near future.

According to the library’s director Darlene Barlow, the library currently has two to three individuals interested in attending a GED class at the library, but Lake Land College, who instructs the class, requires six to eight individuals before the class is established.

If interested, call the Lovington Library before August 15 at 873-4468.

Red Apple Fire Investigation Still Ongoing

According to Sullivan fire chief Mike Piper, the investigation into the cause of a fire that destroyed the Red Apple Family Restaurant last Tuesday is ongoing.

SFD investigator Kenny Graven is conducting an in-house investigation on the fire in addition to the state fire marshal.

Piper said that both investigations hope to wrap up by the end of this week.

Health Screenings Aug. 21 in Sullivan

SBL Lincolnland Home Care and Lincolnland Hospice will conduct a free blood pressure clinic 8:30-9 a.m. Thursday, August 21 at the Senior Center in Sullivan. For more information call Lincolnland Home Care at 1-800-879-3212.

SBL Lincolnland Home Care, Lincolnland Hospice and Lincolnland Home Medical will also sponsor bingo from 9–10 a.m. following the blood pressure clinic.

Adam’s Road in Concert Aug. 13

The Christian, non-profit musical ministry Adam’s Road will be in concert August 13 at Solid Rock Chapel in Sullivan.

Music and testimony will begin at 7 p.m. and is free of charge for the public. Solid Rock Chapel is located at 1213 East Jackson in Sullivan. For more information about the group, visit www.adamsroadministry.com.

IGA Cookout Benefit for McFadden Family

A fundraiser cookout will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 26 at the IGA in Sullivan to raise money for the McFadden family of Warrensburg, whose son Gabriel Thomas Buchanan, a 2014 Warrensburg-Latham graduate, recently died.

Mother Johna McFadden is the current community relations coordinator at Mason Point in Sullivan.

The cookout will feature ribeye or pork chop sandwich, chips, and a drink. Donations may be sent to Mason Point.

SOV High School Football Camp July 21

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley football camp will begin July 21 at Sullivan high school and run through the 24th.

It will go from 7-9:15 a.m. each day with the youth football camp to follow from 10-11:30 a.m.

Blood Drive July 15 in Sullivan

The American Red Cross and Sullivan American Legion Post 68 will sponsor a blood drive 11:45 a.m.-6 p.m. July 15  at the Sullivan American Legion located at 8 West Strain in Sullivan. During the summer months, blood supplies are desperately needed.

For an appointment, call Jeri Davis, drive coordinator, at 273-9456. Walk-ins are welcome, but an appointment will ensure adequate staffing is available and wait time is reduced.
