Sullivan head coach Chester Reeder is fond of reminding his team to take advantage of opportunities. Friday night, the Redskins took what was a disappointing fourth quarter let down against Meridian, leading to overtime, and saw it as a chance to play more.

“I told them after the fourth quarter, ‘What a wonderful opportunity boys, you get to play the game you love for four more minutes. Now go out there and take this game from them.’”

In what seemed more like a regulation period of eight minutes, the extra quarter started with Sullivan getting back on track.

You may not have noticed her in the past, let alone heard her name mentioned as part of the team, but sophomore Alyssa Marshall is in fact a varsity player for Sullivan’s girls’ basketball team. And the typically quiet and timid sophomore put aside her humble play Thursday night as she was tasked with answering the call to fill the temporary absence of senior Maggie Plank, who was out sick.

A Message From Sullivan Superintendent Brad Tuttle 1.8.14

News Progress Posted on January 8, 2014 by webmasterJanuary 8, 2014

After 16 days of winter break followed by three days of snow and sub-zero temperatures, all students and staff can finally return to school tomorrow (Thursday, January 9). Our maintenance crews and custodians have been busy the past three days adjusting thermostats, plowing parking lots and salting sidewalks so we can have a safe return to school. Please understand that parking in all areas around the schools may be a challenge until we have some melting of our large snow piles. We are grateful to these dedicated employees for their tireless efforts in this extreme weather.  In addition, Coach Brown has worked diligently to reschedule all the events that have had to be cancelled to adverse weather conditions and will get that information out in a timely manner.

The forecast still calls for some more adverse conditions in the next 24 hours, so parents, staff and students should exercise caution Thursday morning and afternoon. Dress warmly, allow extra time for driving and walking, and watch for slippery spots on sidewalks and side roads. As always, if the circumstances are such that a person's health or well being remains in question, please use discretion when preparing for school tomorrow. We will trust your judgment.

Thanks for understanding as we made difficult decisions to close school in the best interest of students and staff. Now that warm classrooms await the kids again, hopefully the thermometer follows suit and rises quickly toward spring. It can't come soon enough.
