Happening at the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library:
Story times: Every Wednesday, July 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31 at 10:00am. You must register for all of these classes either online, by calling or coming in to the library. Online codes can be found on our Facebook page. Registration for the foam and slime party will not open until July 1st.
Every Monday at 9:00 am we will be hosting a Memory Café This is a social gathering for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Get helpful information and support from others who also have loved ones who struggle with memory loss.
K-5 Summer Reading Classes: July 9th from 10:00-11:00 we are making twirl sticks July 18th from 3:00-4:30 - Foam and slime party. The prerequisite for attending this party is completing 5 weeks on your reading log.
YA Summer Reading classes: July 16th at 2pm. We will be painting on candles. You can register online, codes are posted on our Facebook page or by calling or coming into the library.
Movies: We will show a free kids movie every Friday in July at 1:00pm. We serve free popcorn. You are welcome to bring your own snack and blanket to sit on. Movies are open to everyone.
Open House: July 10 all day. We have a new sublimation printer and will demonstrate new ideas and how to use the printer. Like our 3D printer, there is a small fee to use it but the possibilities are endless. You can print on cloth, such as t-shirts, bags, and flags. You can print coasters for home or car use and print onto water bottles or coffee cups. The uses are endless!

The Education Connection

The Education Connection Committee develops History-to-Go units for use in classrooms throughout the county. Artifacts are an important component of each unit, helping students to learn more about the place they call home - Moultrie County. “Early Settlers of Moultrie County” is the title of the current unit, and the committee would appreciate help from the community in collecting items from that period, 1826-1890, to include in the unit. The topics include Homes & Homelife, Clothing, Tools, Food and Food Preparation, Transportation, Farming, Music, Games, Art, and Crafts. If you have photos or renderings of the time, letters, and other printed information on the topics, we can make copies and return items unharmed. All other items or artifacts can be loaned or donated to the Center for the unit. Moultrie County tax sale

Moultrie County, as Trustee, has completed their tax deed proceedings on real estate properties that were delinquent for 2020 and mobile homes that were delinquent for 2021 and prior real estate taxes. The County, as Trustee, will now offer for sale the real estate and mobile homes obtained to the public. They will offer approximately four real estate items and three mobile home items through a sealed bid auction sale. All sealed written bids must be in the Moultrie County Treasurer’s Office located in the Moultrie County Courthouse, 10 S. Main Street, Suite 10, Sullivan, no later than the close of business on July 5, 2024. All online bids must be submitted via www.iltaxsalebids.com no later than the close of business on July 5, 2024.
The sale of these lots and mobile homes should be a major benefit to both the Taxing Districts and the neighboring property owners. This sale will place the real estate and mobile homes into the hands of individuals who have an interest in owning them. The County, as Trustee, hopes that these new owners will both maintain the property and the mobile homes and keep the taxes paid. By eliminating abandoned properties, the appearance of the neighborhood should improve, and the value of adjoining properties should increase.
The required minimum bid on real estate is $826.00, and on mobile homes is $915.00. All items will be sold to the highest sealed bid received on or before July 5, 2024. Complete bidder’s packets and sale catalogs are now available at the Moultrie County Treasurer’s Office or online at www.iltaxsale.com.

Lesters in concert

Lovington First Church of God, 301 N State, Lovington, will have the Lesters in concert June 28 at 7p.m. The public is invited. A free will offering will be taken.
Pork chop dinner

A pork chop dinner will be served on Saturday, July 6 at the United Methodist Church fellowship hall in Hammond. Serving time is 4:30-7 p.m. and a meal including a pork chop sandwich, baked beans, chips, dessert and drink is $10. Take-outs and family rates are also available. The church is located at 3rd and D Streets.
Transportation & (BAA) Workshop

Soyland Access to Independent Living, SAIL, is hosting a Transportation and Benefit Access Application Workshop on Tuesday, July 2 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at the Shelby County Senior Center, 325 E. North 9th St., Shelbyville. The presenters are Nathan Nichols, Central Illinois Public Transportation, CIPT and Betty Watkins, SAIL Rural Outreach Coordinator, speaking on the Benefits Access Application (BAA).
The workshop is free, reservations are not required. For more information call Betty Watkins, SAIL Rural Outreach Coordinator, at 774-4322.
Sullivan 4th of July Celebration

July 1st through the 4th at Wyman Park, Sullivan will be hosting their annual 4th of July Celebration. There is a new carnival in town, this year the carnival will be hosted by The Carnival Company from Gratis, Ohio. The carnival will be open from 5 to 11pm Monday through Wednesday and 12-5 & 6-11 on Thursday, save money with the armband presale at the Legion for $22 before July 1st. On the 4th there will be a parade at noon followed by watermelon eating contest and sack races and turtle races starting at 2pm. Last but not least, the night is finished with the the fireworks display at dusk. This years 4th of July Celebration is sponsored by the Sullivan Area Merchants and Sullivan American Legion Post #68.
