Dine with a Doc

The Mid-Illinois Senior Services Center, in collaboration with Senior Education Ministries of Terre Haute, is set to host a free lunch while dining with a doctor. Allowing seniors a chance to relax and eat while listening and ask questions from 11am to 1pm December 3rd. During the three hour lunch, seniors can expect fellowship with peers, door prizes and conversation with a doctor. The lunch is free but there are limited spots available, reserve a spot by calling the Mid-Illinois Senior Services Center at (217)728-8521 during office hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm.

Quarter Madness

December’s Quarter Madness this year will be benefiting the Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc, hosted at the American Legion Post #68. Door open at six on Wednesday, December 11th with the full event start just 30 minutes later for all ages. There will be food for sale in the parking lot by Highway Heartburn as well as a bake sale. Bring a bingo prize and receive a free $1 paddle.  To sign up bake goods for the bake sale call (217)728-8521, Monday-Friday from 8:30-3:30pm, baked good must be done the day before by noon. Hat & Glove Drive

The Moultrie County Courthouse is holding a hat and glove drive to provide for children and young adults in local schools. The courthouse employees are asking for the public to donate through December 20th. There is a little tree on the first floor of the courthouse to drop off your donations.

The next Christmas blessing

The Village of Bethany is feeling the warm spirit of Christmas quite early this year, having created a chance for local residents and those within Moultrie to nominate someone in the community in need of a Christmas Miracle. The last day to nominate someone for the blessing in November 27th, recipients will be chosen and notified no later than Tuesday, December 3rd. Free laundry day

The Moultrie Shelby County ROSC is partnering with ACE Hardware to provide the community with a free laundry day at the Rainbow Wash House, 809 W Jackson Street, Sullivan. Funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery, the community will have access to free laundry on December 5th starting at nine. Naloxone and Naloxone trainings will be readily available to community members during the event. To donate to future laundry days, contact Skylar Miller at skylark@hourhouserecovery.org.

Senior’s Christmas dinner

The 52nd annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner, hosted by Okaw Valley School District, will be once again returning to the Okaw Valley High School cafeteria on Friday, December 6th at noon. Funeral expense benefit

Melinda ‘Mindy’ Seelow passed away unexpectedly from a seizure disorder and did not have any life insurance, upon passing Mindy left behind her son Mikey and her Mother Rita. Due to her unexpected passing the family is asking for support to give Melinda the proper service she deserves. Hosting the benefit for December 7th from 4-11pm at the Sullivan VFW, 1132 IL-32, there will be live music by Night Moves, food and many other raffles and auctions. Entry fee is $10 per person, the food will be provided by 5 Bugle BBQ with a meal of BBQ pulled pork sandwich, baked beans and chips, the VFW will also have staffed bartenders during the benefit.  For questions or donations towards Mindy’s expenses call Tia Punches at (217)620-5822, Diana Wheeler at (217)853-4421 or Tara Root at (217)972-5406.

Back to Bethlehem

The First Christian Church of Sullivan is hosting a special Christmas celebration on Sunday, December 8th at 10am. Located at 1357 CR 1200E, the churches choir has a special performance, the cantata “Take Me Back to Bethlehem”. The choir invites all to experience a journey that will transport the listeners to a humble stable where Hope was born, listening to the wonder, joy and peace of the first Christmas Night. These yuletide carols stand as a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas, reflecting on the love and the light that was brought here through Christ. SHS State Scholars

Sullivan High School’s class of 2025 saw a few students reaching outstanding performance within class and academic achievement resulting in a handful of them being nominated to be the 2025 Illinois State Scholars of Sullivan High School. Anderson Crouse, Isabel Donovan, Olivia Cordes, Madison Flexser and Addison Brush were given certificates in honor of the award.

New royalty to be crowned
The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
