Residents of the Village of Lovington wishing to become candidates for municipal office in the April 1, 2025, consolidated election may pick up their candidate petition sheets beginning immediately.

Offices up for election are (3) Village Trustee and (1) Village President. All positions are for a 4 year term. Petitions are to be picked up at the Village Office, located at 222 S Railroad Street, Lovington.

Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The filing period for petitions will be November 12-18, 2024  On the final day of the filing period, November 18, we will accept petitions until 5:00 p.m.

To qualify as a candidate, you must be a registered voter, must not have been convicted in any court located in the United States of a felony crime, and meet the one-year residency requirement prior to the election date of April 1, 2025.

Grandparents Day celebration

The Courtyard Estates in Sullivan will be hosting a Grandparents Day celebration on Sunday, September 8th at two that afternoon. Limited to two guests only, refreshments and entertainment will be provided to attending guests. Bethany’s Kate Jeffers graduates

Bethany resident Kate Jeffers celebrated a major academic milestone on May 12, 2024, graduating from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences. Kate was honored with the distinction of Highest Honors and was a consistent presence on the Dean’s List during her four years at Illinois.

In addition to her degree, Kate earned a minor in Disability Studies, which she pursued while studying abroad at University College Dublin in Ireland. Her international experience enriched her academic journey and broadened her perspective on global approaches to disability and speech sciences.

Kate is set to continue her education at the University of Illinois, where she will be enrolled in the Master’s program in Speech and Hearing Sciences. Her dedication to her field and impressive academic achievements highlight her commitment to advancing her expertise and contributing to the field of speech and hearing.

Blood Drive

The Sullivan American legion will be hosting an honor blood drive for Jodi Phelps. There will be door prizes at the event and snacks provided, donations of door prizes and snacks can also be made. Microchip clinic

The Village of Lovington will be hosting a PAWS Microchip clinic on Sunday, September 15th from 1-2:30 in the afternoon at the Lovington Fire House located at 120 South County Street. The base fee for a microchip is $15, cats and dogs are welcome however dogs must be leashed and cats must be crated in a carrier. Registration for the clinic is now open and can be found at https://forms.gle/A36ALMmD31D2HWq29. This clinic is not area specific, any and all are welcome to register. Osman to celebrate 80th

Bethany car show

Saturday, August 24th, Downtown Bethany will be hosting their very own car show. With a small entry fee of $15, all makes and models are welcome. The car show will be running from 4-7 in the afternoon that day with a competition as well. The first 50 entry’s get a dash plaque and there will also be a 50/50 raffle. The competition is being judge in a top 10 style with trophies being presented to the winners at 6:30pm. Concessions will be available, no alcohol allowed and no burnouts. Windsor Harvest 5K

The Windsor High School Class of 2025 is sponsoring this year’s Windsor Harvest 5K Run in conjunction with Windsor Harvest Picnic on Saturday, August 17.

Registration can be found on the Windsor High School website (windsorcusd.org) or participants can come that morning and sign up. Registration fee is $20.00 and includes a T-shirt. There are six different age divisions and medals will be given to the top male and female winner in each division, as well as, overall best time and eldest racer. Check-in is under the Windsor City Park pavilion, 1109 Ohio Ave in Windsor at 7 a.m., same day registration the race will begin at 7:30 a.m. 

A portion of the race proceeds will be given to the scholarship fund set up for Edie, Karly, and Sienna.

Hunter name to Dean’s List

Simon Hunter of Sullivan has been named to the Blackburn College Dean’s List for the 2023-2024 academic year. Students named to the Dean’s List must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher for the semester. Hunter earned this recognition for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. Founded in 1837, Blackburn College is a four-year, Presbyterian-related, co-educational liberal arts college located in Carlinville, IL. One of only ten federally recognized Work Colleges, Blackburn is the only Work Program in the nation managed by students. Balancing academic rigor and experiential learning, each student at Blackburn gains tangible experience and develops critical skills by contributing to their community, all while building a resume and earning their degree. U.S. News & World Report has recognized Blackburn College as one of the best colleges in the Midwest region for 2024. Blackburn also earned a top-ten ranking for social mobility. Blackburn has been listed as a top performer for social mobility each year the list has been published. The Washington Monthly ranked Blackburn first in Illinois for performance by students receiving Pell Grants in 2022 and 2023. The publication has twice ranked Blackburn as the best baccalaureate college in Illinois.

Sullivan Boy Scout Troop # 39 was at the ready with delicious food in Kirby’s parking lot for famished deal-seekers on Friday, June 5th, during Sullivan’s annual Townwide Rummage Sale. On the menu were brats, steak sandwiches, pork chops, chips, sides, and cool beverages.
