Senior potluck

The monthly Senior Potluck in Bethany will be on Wednesday, November 20th at 11am at the Marrowbone Public Library, 216 W Main Street. This month there will have turkey furnished.

SHS State Scholars

Sullivan High School’s class of 2025 saw a few students reaching outstanding performance within class and academic achievement resulting in a handful of them being nominated to be the 2025 Illinois State Scholars of Sullivan High School. Anderson Crouse, Isabel Donovan, Olivia Cordes, Madison Flexser and Addison Brush were given certificates in honor of the award.

Honorary cookout

Focusing to aid a graduating senior for the 2025 year, a cookout hosted by Kirby Foods will be taking place on September 14th from 10:30-1:30. Honoring the support Kyle Lehman had for the community and contributions to Sullivan, the cookout is a means to raise money for the honorary scholarship which would be given to a graduating senior working at Kirby Foods. Established just the year prior, the Lehman Family have awarded two separate $1,000 scholarships to two deserving graduates. The cookout meal consists of two choices of main course and drink, a ribeye sandwich for $8, tenderized pork chop for $5, Dasani water for $2 or at 16.9oz soft drink for $2.

Concert

James Rainey from St. Louis will be performing live on Saturday, September 14th at 6pm at the Allenville Christian Church, 201 S Allen St in Allenville. Following the concert, there will be finger-food fellowship and offerings will be collected.

Senior citizen potluck

The Bethany Senior Citizen Potluck will be a cook out held on Wednesday, September 18 at 11 a.m. at the Bethany park. Meat will be furnished. All are welcome. In case of rain, the lunch will be moved to the Bethany library.

Monthly Quarter Madness

Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold their September Quarter Auction on Wednesday, September 11. The event will be held at the Sullivan American Legion. Sullivan Lions Club will be the charity of the month. Since 1941, Sullivan Lions Club, an affiliate of Lions International, has been committed to helping residents with vision and hearing services, hunger, and youth needs. Their club is known for their annual Turkey Party held in November. Funds raised during this event and others are given back in the community in various ways.

At the September Quarter Madness, vendors could include: Allie’s Gift and Garden, Bloom Jewelry, Scentsy, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Plunder Jewelry, Shaklee and Avon plus different craft and food vendors with tumblers, t-shirts, wreaths, earrings, wind spinners, potholders, signs, garden stakes, décor, soy based candles and melties, pet supplies, freeze dried candies, meat bundles and more. Come shop the vendors and stay for the Quarter Auction. Bring your quarters for charity items and extra bidding. All-In-Paddle will be $20. Doors open at 6:00 and the Quarter Auction begins at 6:30. All ages are welcome to attend. Boy Scout Troop 39 will have food available for purchase and there will be a bake sale also. Drink purchases can be made through the Legion as well. Laker Visit day

Lake Land Community College is hosting a Laker Visit Day on Monday, October 14th running only from nine to noon. During this time, future students or those who are just touring can discover all of which the campus has to offer, aimed towards students who are interested in attending the college. The visit will begin with a tour led by a student ambassador, meeting faculty and staff along the way, also allowing future students to look at what the average day of the attending students looked like. Check-in takes place at the lobby of the Luther Student Center, registration can be done online at LakeLandCollege.edu/visit. Food drive

Bethany’s United Methodist Church will be hosting a food drive at the church, located on St. John Street next to the First Christian Church, on September 7th from nine in the morning until two that afternoon. Sponsored by the United Methodist women, the community can drop off any goods for their own community, examples of good donations for a food drive would be canned goods, peanut butter, pasta and rice. Cruise Night

The Annual Cruise Night on the Square in Sullivan is making its return once again on Saturday, August 31st at three in the afternoon. All makes and models are welcome to register for just a small fee of $20. There will be over $1,500 in door prizes given away, free popcorn provided by Boy Scout Troop 39, live music by ShovelHead and dash plaques for the first 100 to register. Sullivan Boy Scout Troop # 39 was at the ready with delicious food in Kirby’s parking lot for famished deal-seekers on Friday, June 5th, during Sullivan’s annual Townwide Rummage Sale. On the menu were brats, steak sandwiches, pork chops, chips, sides, and cool beverages.
