Dickens graduates

Isaac Dickens of Sullivan has graduated from Rhodes College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

The 175th Commencement Exercises of Rhodes College took place on campus May 11. The college conferred 406 degrees, including the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science in Accounting, and Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Equity.

LPC All-Conference teams named

Three SHS softball teammates were recently selected to the LPC All-Conference Softball team. The players were Aeralyn Thrasher (2nd Team), Tabitha Webb (2nd Team) and Harmony Ray (Honorable Mention).

On the boys side, named to the Baseball All Conference team were Jake Stewart (1st Team), Adan Mills (2nd Team), Cameron Crowe (2nd Team), Schafer Ogle (Honorable Mention) and Tristan Wright (Honorable Mention).

All wheel extravaganza

Sunday July 28th, downtown Dalton City will be hosting the annual all wheel extravaganza from 12 to 5pm. Registration starts at 10am with a $15 registrations fee. There will be goodie bags handed out to the first 150 to enter. There will be food trucks, music, a silent auction, door prizes, 50/50 and other venders. Breast Cancer benefit

There will be a breast cancer benefit for Krissy Davis on Friday July 26th from 6 to 10pm. There will be a raffle, silent auction, music, food, t-shirts and a bags tournament. Teams must register in advance by calling Sheri at (217)-254-3327. The bags tournaments is teams of two and is double elimination, the games will start at 4 pm.

Birch graduates

More than 4,450 graduates received degrees from Iowa State University this spring. Graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremonies were held May 9-11 at Hilton Coliseum. Savannah Birch, of Bethany, received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

Findlay breakfast

The Findlay Fire Protection District will be hosting a biscuit and gravy breakfast on July 27th from 6:30 to 9am. The meal includes biscuits and gravy, coffee and orange juice. Donations are greatly appreciated. This will be held at the Findlay firehouse 301 E S 2nd street in Findlay.

2024 Bethany Celebration

The 2024 Bethany celebration will be starting this year on Friday June 21at 5pm with the opening ceremonies including inflatables and vendors. From 5:30 to 8pm Friday there will be live music, princess and Spiderman meet and greets and a dance showcase brought to you by the Sullivan Dance Studio. Saturday continues to day two of the celebration starting bright and early at 8am for a dads and donuts volleyball tournament, a parade to follow and a car show starts at 1:00. Later in the day, the celebration will wrap up with some live music sets in the beer tent and fireworks. By 5pm the event tent will open and live music will be playing, live entertainment includes Country Sky and Tyson Schulte. Other events later in the evenings for all ages includes clowns, magic shows and fireworks.

Millikin Honors Convocation

The Millikin University community gathered for the annual Honors Convocation and Distinguished Faculty Lecture on Thursday, April 25, at Kirkland Fines Arts Center to honor faculty, staff and student accomplishments as the academic year approaches its close.

Over 125 awards were presented to Millikin students and faculty who were honored for their commitment to academic excellence. Many awards have been created to distinguish alums from Millikin’s past. Among those honored were Reagan Crouse, of Sullivan, receiving the Modern Languages Linguistic Excellence Award and Colton Middleton, of Lovington, receiving the Percussion Achievement Award.

Sullivan High School student Claire Kursell recently participated in the Central Illinois High School Art Exhibition at Millikin University. She received an honorable mention for her piece, “Bride of Frankenstein”.
